Welcome to the 2018 AIP Publishing Product Guide

At AIP Publishing, we recognize that the scholarly community has choices—choices in what resources to subscribe to, what to read, and where to publish. That’s why we’ve committed to continually improving the experience and value we deliver to our customers, readers, and authors. We’ve taken major strides this year, developing and introducing new tools and services that help researchers make an impact by advancing global research through the publication and broad dissemination of high-quality peer reviewed journals.

As a result, our publishing portfolio of research journals and conference proceedings, which spans the spectrum of the physical sciences, includes some of the most cited journals in physics. We published over 17,000 research articles and 10,000 conference proceedings articles last year, and over 25 million articles were downloaded from Scitation, our newly redesigned online content platform, by scientists from across the globe.

As a not-for-profit society publisher, we’re proud that the content we publish is so highly valued, but we’re even more proud of the care and service that we provide all our customers, helping the research community realize the full potential of their scientific discoveries.

Because our author experience is the foundation of our value, we’ve launched a new suite of author services, including language editing, to help global researchers prepare their articles pre-submission. Authors who submit their manuscript to one of our journals obtain a fair, rigorous and timely process. AIP Publishing uses a non-restrictive license to publish, allowing authors to retain copyright of their work, and enabling sharing of the Author Manuscript without embargo at the time the article is accepted for publication.

As AIP Publishing continues our tradition of publishing leadership, we are deeply involved with industry initiatives such as CHORUS and howcanishareit to make content more discoverable and accessible for researchers. In 2017, AIP Publishing joined the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC), making citation information from our journal articles open and free to access. Our published research is actively promoted through press releases and marketing efforts to make the best possible impact. Our new Scilight article summaries showcase newly published research, emphasizing its significance to the field, and are designed to be read by researchers across disciplines, expanding the reach of science.

And that’s our ultimate goal, to advance understanding and knowledge of science. Everyone at AIP Publishing prizes the mutually beneficial partnership we’ve built with the library community and our joint commitment to inspire scientists worldwide. Together we’re bringing new discoveries to light every year. Thank you for choosing us.

AIP Publishing’s mission is to accelerate science and broadly disseminate new research results to scientists worldwide. We facilitate this by offering authors Gold, Green, and Hybrid Open Access options. AIP Publishing continues to work in tandem with representatives from the library and research communities as well as funding agencies to develop sustainable solutions for public access to federally funded research, such as the CHORUS initiative. As a founding member of CHORUS, we were one of the first publishers to make articles available via the CHORUS system by publishing the first article with the US Department of Energy on October 1, 2015.

Gold Open Access—publication of an article in a fully Open Access journal, where the entire content of the journal is freely available without barriers. Publication is funded by an Article Processing Charge (APC) paid by the author or another sponsor. AIP Publishing offers five Gold Open Access journals: • AIP Advances (aipadvances.aip.org) • APL Bioengineering (aplbioeng.aip.org) • APL Materials (aplmaterials.aip.org) • APL Photonics (aplphotonics.aip.org) • Structural Dynamics (sd.aip.org)

Author Select®—a hybrid author-pays model offering authors the option to choose Open Access for their published article in any of our subscription journals. This allows authors to provide free online access to their individual article, in perpetuity, to any online user.

Green Open Access—Authors are encouraged to use their accepted manuscript immediately after acceptance for deposit in their institution’s repository. Select partner publishers, along with AIP Publishing, support Green Open Access, including: • Acoustical Society of America • American Association of Physics Teachers • AVS: Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing • Laser Institute of America • The Society of Rheology 12 | 2018 AIP Publishing Product Guide
