  • Metadata for Semantic and Social Applications
etadata is a key aspect of our evolving infrastructure for information management, social computing, and scientific collaboration. DC-2008M will focus on metadata challenges, solutions, and innovation in initiatives and activities underlying semantic and social applications. Metadata is part of the fabric of social computing, which includes the use of wikis, blogs, and tagging for collaboration and participation. Metadata also underlies the development of semantic applications, and the Semantic Web — the representation and integration of multimedia knowledge structures on the basis of semantic models. These two trends flow together in applications such as Wikipedia, where authors collectively create structured information that can be extracted and used to enhance access to and use of information sources. Recent discussion has focused on how existing bibliographic standards can be expressed as Semantic Metadata for Web vocabularies to facilitate the ingration of library and cultural heritage data with other types of data. Harnessing the efforts of content providers and end-users to link, tag, edit, and describe their Semantic and information in interoperable ways (”participatory metadata”) is a key step towards providing knowledge environments that are scalable, self-correcting, and evolvable. Social Applications DC-2008 will explore conceptual and practical issues in the development and deployment of semantic and social applications to meet the needs of specific communities of practice. • Rostrevor College
A CATHOLIC ALL BOYS’ DAY & BOARDING COLLEGE IN THE EDMUND RICE TRADITION Reception to Year 12 ROSTREVOR MAGAZINE APRIL 2017 Why Rostrevor? With Eric Mercer Casey and Colby’s Dad Financial Planner Why did you choose Rostrevor for your boys? Initially it was the sense of tradition, I didn’t go here, I’m not an old scholar. I had friends that went here, heard a lot of great things: big open spaces and lots of opportunities. Both of my boys are into sport so it just ticked all of the right boxes. If you asked your sons what they liked about Rostrevor what would they say? Probably not in their words but a sense of belonging and a sense of brotherhood; it is a boys school but there is something special about it, boys really connect and bond forming great friendships which is not something found at most schools. How have you found the community? Very close and very involved. As a new parent coming in you are of course a little apprehensive not knowing anyone, but everyone welcomes you in and you in turn become involved in the school. It’s very close, everyone pitches in, it’s a very tight-knit community. What does See Further mean to you? See Further means to me vision, having a plan and working towards it, the opportunity they have, where essentially they can be anything they want to be. What has surprised you about Rostrevor? The down to earth community feel; everyone is really involved in the school a lot more then we initially felt, everyone is really approachable from the principal through to teachers and parents.

Over the past seventeen years this format has grown leaps and bounds and is very keenly watched by all stakeholders involved with the game. The popularity and the growth of T20 has led to cricket boards taking this format with uttermost seriousness and every major cricket playing nation has its own international team and domestic league. Over the past seventeen years the strategies involved in succeeding in this format have also evolved and teams at the international, franchise and domestic level are trying to evolve their playbook to gain a comparative advantage. Seventeen years since T20 cricket started, preparation for matches globally have changed from casual chats in team meetings. For coaches and captains, dossiers of 25 pages are common; these dissect the opponent's strengths and weaknesses, suggest set-plays, which are the optimum ways that a bowler can set up a batsman, and explain the best parts of the ground to target and which end might suit each bowler best This research paper will delve into a potential winning strategy for a T20 side.

  • British Asians and the Myths of Yorkshire Cricket.I
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Leeds Beckett Repository “All Yorkshiremen are from Yorkshire, but some are more ‘Yorkshire’ than Others”: British Asians and the myths of Yorkshire cricket.i This paper explores the contemporary relationship between Yorkshire cricket and South Asian communities through oral testimonies with white and British Asian cricketers within the region. The paper documents how the myths and invented traditions surrounding Yorkshire as an insular county have extended to all levels of Yorkshire cricket culture. Evidence is presented to argue that, despite the growing representation of British Asians within the Yorkshire leagues and within the structure of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, cultural and institutionalised forms of racism continue to be intrinsic to the sport. The paper presents evidence to suggest that, regardless of being committed to Yorkshire and their ‘Yorkshireness’, white Yorkshire people may never fully accept British Asians as ‘one of us’. Finally, Yorkshire cricket’s (alleged) commitment to ‘colour-blindness’ is deconstructed by presenting evidence that British Asians continue to feel marginalised by, and on the fringe of, mainstream cricket culture in Yorkshire. Yorkshire and Yorkshire cricket: An introduction There exists in England a curious cult of Northern-ness, sort of Northern snobbishness. A Yorkshireman in the South will always take care to let you know that he regards you as an inferior … the North is inhabited by 'real' people … The Northerner has 'grit', he is grim, 'dour', plucky, warm-hearted, and democratic; the Southerner is snobbish, effeminate, and lazy - that at any rate is the theory.
