The Sewing Hui of Maui • Evolved out of the Maui Face Mask Project, which created 10,000 medical grade masks for Maui's healthcare providers. • A dedicated team of volunteer sewists who create and sew a variety of projects for Maui's healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations. • In the process of becoming a 501(3) non-profit organization. Maui Makers is the hui's fiscal sponsor until non-profit status is obtained. Current Project • Making 4,500+ fabric masks for Maui teachers, students and schools. • Vulnerable students are in public school at this time, some private schools are in session, and PPE is needed in schools. How to Support • Volunteer – To sew, cut fabric, assemble elastic and toggles, plenty of non-sewing jobs if you cannot sew. • Purchase Masks – Masks are available to the public for purchase for $10. Information on styles is available on our Facebook Page - The Sewing Hui of Maui How to Support • Donate Funds – Funds are used to purchase supplies and materials. Maui Makers is the fiscal sponsor for the hui, and will administer donated funds. • Sponsor Volunteer Lunches – 15-20 lunches are needed each week for volunteers. Contact Information • Jennifer Oberg, Founder and Director • Email – [email protected] • Facebook – The Sewing Hui of Maui Maui County Status Update • About 25,000 tests have been conducted in Maui County, with 98.5% returning negative. • Maui County positivity rate is 0.2% (Past 7 Days). • Over 90% of tests have a turnaround time of 1 day. • Less than half of our ICU beds are in use, with ZERO being used for COVID-19. • ZERO ventilators are reportedly in use. • These are all very good indicators and we will need everyone’s help to continue limiting the spread of COVID-19. John Buck Retiring Today • Department of Parks and Recreation Deputy Director John Buck is retiring today after over 30 years with the County of Maui. • John started his career in Parks and Recreation, holding various positions such as district supervisor, lifeguard and program planner. He also served as Deputy Director of Transportation.
