Ser - gio Donadoni was appointed its first professor of EAgyptology in 1951; he left in 1961 to teach at the University of Rome. After Donadoni’s departure the chair of Egyptology remained vacant until 1993, when the position was filled by Patrizia Piacentini. The article goes on to recount Piacentini’s founding of the University’s Egyptology Archives — today world renown — with its first purchase in 1999 of the complete library of the late German Egyptol - ogist Elmar Edel (1914-1997), from the antiquarian bookseller Ars Libri in Boston.     oi.uchicago.edu PHILOLOGY DEMOTIC DICTIONARY PROJECT Janet H.Johnson This year, as for the past several years, the Demotic Dictionary staff concentrated on checking drafts of entries for individual letters in the Egyptian "alphabet" and preparing and entering computer scan copies of the actual Demotic words. The only student work­ ing on the project this year was Thomas Dousa, whose command of Egyptian and Greek and the extensive literature in both has allowed him to make major contributions to the checking and rewriting of first draft entries. Thanks to a very generous bequest from Professor and Mrs. George R. Hughes, we anticipate being able next year to hire a recent Ph.D. graduate as Research Associate to work full time on checking of draft and preparation of scans and copies. The checking and rewriting of first draft entries involves double checking of all in­ formation provided in the entry and the incorporation of several categories of informa­ tion that we decided to include after the first drafts had been written. Many of these categories are being added to provide social or cultural information as part of the "meaning" of a word. For example, whenever the "word" is the name of a deity, a refer­ ence is provided to every geographic location (e.g., a specific city or cemetery) with which the deity is associated in the texts of the corpus from which the Chicago Demotic Dictionary is being drawn. Similarly, whenever the "word" being discussed is the name of a geographic location, reference is made to all deities mentioned in the texts of our corpus in conjunction with that geographic location.

Together with data from earlier studies it has been possible to confirm some of the previously suggested haplotype identifications and phylogeny of the Domestic cat lineage. Moreover, by applying a molecular clock, it is proposed that the Domestic cat lineage has experienced several expansions representing domestication and/or breeding in pre-historical and historical times, seemingly in concordance with theories of a domestication origin in the Neolithic Middle East and in Pharaonic Egypt. In addition, the present study also demonstrates the possibility of retrieving long polynucleotide sequences from hair shafts and a time-efficient way to amplify a complete feline mitochondrial genome. Campbell (MA Egypt Macquarie University) Many ancient Egyptian royal women seem to have born the title iryt-p`t, translated as Hereditary Princess, but what does it mean? The title was used from the 6th Dynasty through to the 20th Dynasty (Bart). Usage outside of that date range is not currently attested. The title is indisputably a royal one, in other words overwhelmingly the title is born by women of the royal house. However there are instances of bearers of this title not holding other royal titles such as Kings Wife, Kings Sister, Kings Daughter or Kings Mother. Royal women who held the title Hereditary Princess and one or more of the titles Sister of the King and or Daughter of the King, Eldest Kings daughter or Daughter of his Body, confirm that the bearer is a daughter and / or sister of a king. But what of those that do not hold these titles, but do carry the title Hereditary Princess? We can divide the remainder into three groups, 1. Those that bear the title Kings wife and Hereditary Princess and no other royal titles 2. Those that bear the title Kings Wife, Kings Mother and Hereditary Princess. These may also be a daughter and or sister of the King. 3. Those that have no other royal titles at all than Hereditary Princess. They also appear to hold this title Hereditary Princess in their own right, Ahmose Nefertari was an Hereditary not as a wife of an Hereditary Prince.

    1 Who was Who at Amarna Akhenaten’s predecessors Amenhotep III: Akhenaten’s father, who ruled for nearly 40 years during the peak of Egypt’s New Kingdom empire. One of ancient Egypt’s most prolific builders, he is also known for his interest in the solar cult and promotion of divine kingship. He was buried in WV22 at Thebes, his mummy later cached with other royal mummies in the Tomb of Amenhotep II (KV 35) in the Valley of the Kings. Tiye: Amenhotep III’s chief wife and the mother of Akhenaten. Her parents Yuya and Tjuyu were from the region of modern Akhmim in Egypt’s south. She may have lived out her later years at Akhetaten and died in the 14th year of Akhenaten’s reign. Funerary equipment found in the Amarna Royal Tomb suggests she was originally buried there, although her mummy was later moved to Luxor and is perhaps to be identified as the ‘elder lady’ from the KV35 cache. Akhenaten and his family Akhenaten: Son and successor of Amenhotep III, known for his belief in a single solar god, the Aten. He spent most of his reign at Akhetaten (modern Amarna), the sacred city he created for the Aten. Akhenaten died of causes now unknown in the 17th year of his reign and was buried in the Amarna Royal Tomb. His body was probably relocated to Thebes and may be the enigmatic mummy recovered in the early 20th century in tomb KV55 in the Valley of the Kings. Nefertiti: Akhenaten’s principal queen. Little is known of her background, although she may also have come from Akhmim.

One of these factors is the excessive relative humidity as it increases the bacteria and fungus activity inside the tomb in addition to its effect on the mechanical and physical properties of materials. This chapter describes the Research work to design ventilation systems to some of these important tombs. The chapter aims to investigate, design, and implement controlled climate to the tombs of the valley of kings with complete monitoring of air properties, temperature, relative humidity and carbon oxides and air quality parameters mechanical distributions inside selected tombs of the valley of the kings that are open for visitors. Date: February 13, 2008-02-13 Re: Update of Surface Water Quality Assessment for United Keno Hill Mine Complex. Minnow Environmental Inc. (Minnow) was retained by Access Consulting Group to undertake an assessment of the existing water quality data for the United Keno Hill Mine Complex (United Keno, Galena and Sourdough Hill). The objective of this assessment was to identify parameters and locations of concern within the downstream waters relative to established guidelines and background. This information, combined with toxicity data and watershed use objectives may then be combined to develop an approach for considering the development of Site Specific Water Quality Objectives (SSWQO) for various parameters and locations. In order to meet the study objectives, a progressive assessment of the available water quality data was undertaken which included the following steps; • Screen all data to identify outliers (i.e., those greater then 3 standard deviations from the mean) and remove these data. • Establish the background concentration for each parameter based the upper limit of background data distribution (mean + t S.D.) for the combined data from KV-1 and KV-37. UKH Surface Water Quality Assessment - Progress Report • Identify parameters with high method detection limits relative to guidelines which preclude determination of whether concentrations exceed the guideline. • Identify background concentrations which exceed the Canadian Water Quality Guidelines (CWQG). • Determine the median, mean, minimum and maximum concentration for each parameter at each location. • Determine which locations exceed background and/or CWQG at measurable (10%) and substantial (50%) frequencies.
