JETSET, standing for Jet Simulations, Experiments and Theory, was a joint research-training network funded by the European Union, involving 10 institutions, approximately 100 scientists, and 18 directly employed predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers, all working on the theme of jets from young stars. The present proceedings are a collection of contributions of the new results produced from those groups, since the end of the JETSET project. Some of the former JETSET students are now in the academic world, and the subject of astrophysical jets has never been more alive than it is today. Considerable progress has taken place in the field of jets from young stars in the past 10 years from the theoretical, numerical, observational, and experimental points of view. All these are opening new challenges in the field of jets from young stars. What should we expect from the development of new instruments and new numerical codes in the near future? What is the impact of the study of jets from young stars on studies of other jets, in particular those for relativistic jets? As a matter of fact, all those questions we tried to answer here show that it is the right time to plan for a new network. As a conclusion, we shall also highlight the essential and inspiring role of Kanaris Tsinganos in the field of MHD astrophysics and jets. This is also an occasion to celebrate his leading role in the JETSET network. The goal of this book is to: • offer an up-to-date review of what has been done in the field of young stellar jets between 2008 and 2018 in Europe, as a follow-up of the FP6 European program “JETSET,” • provide a snapshot of what are the next theoretical, experimental, observational, and computational challenges to be addressed in the field of young stellar jets, • discuss the input of new instruments and new numerical codes for the future, • consider the impact of the study of jets of young stellar objects on other jet studies, in particular those for relativistic jets.
