    GR Yaris: Ukován v žáru světového rallyového šampionátu Když Toyota v roce 2015 ohlásila návrat do světového rallyového šampionátu (WRC), součástí plánu byla i myšlenka postavit sportovní vůz inspirovaný rallyovými speciály. Vizí konstruktérů bylo využít technické poznatky a zkušenosti z mezinárodních soutěží na nejvyšší úrovni a aplikovat je na nový vůz schválený do běžného provozu, vhodný však i k soutěžnímu nasazení a zároveň cenově dostupný. Sportovní vůz vyráběný samotnou Toyotou – první po 20 letech – zároveň zhmotňoval osobní ambice Akia Toyody, prezidenta automobilky Toyota. V souvislosti se ziskem mistrovského titulu WRC 2018 v kategorii továrních týmů byl Akio Toyoda toho názoru, že vítězný vůz je klíčový k dosažení celosvětového uznání. Právě takovým vozem je GR Yaris, navržený a vyráběný zcela od nuly a určený k vítězství na těch nejvyšších úrovních. Jedná se o druhý globální model Toyoty s označením GR, navazující na úspěšné uvedení Toyoty GR Supra v roce 2018. Pokud jde o technické know-how a vznik vozu, o jehož koupi by zákazníci měli zájem, bylo nutné splnit několik základních podmínek. Tým vývojářů od počátku úzce spolupracoval s firmou Tommi Mäkinen Racing s cílem pochopit, jak vytyčených cílů vlastně dosáhnout. Jednalo se o detailní a velmi pracný proces, který však přinesl přesvědčivé výsledky v podobě vozidla, které se chlubí ideálním spojením tuhé a lehké konstrukce, agilního podvozku se skvělou odezvou a výkonného, nicméně kompaktního přeplňovaného motoru. Volantu vyrobených prototypů se chopili profesionální rallyoví jezdci, včetně členů továrního týmu TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WRT (World Rally Team), kteří vývojářům následně poskytli cennou zpětnou vazbu. Testování se zúčastnil i Akio Toyoda v odborné roli tzv.

Auckland Transport have announced they will introduce sweeping changes to speed limits as they signalled some time ago. As I have commented before their rationale is that “inappropriate speed” contributes to 20% of deaths and serious injuries in the Super City. So, from June next year the CBD will be saddled with a blanket 30 kph speed limit, and many of the Franklin and Rodney rural roads will reduce from 100 kph to 80 or 60 kph. A record 11722 submissions were received, of which 2503 were in support, 3317 against and the balance had no firm stance. I could point out that 80% of deaths and injuries have no connection with inappropriate speed. I could surmise that the decision largely flies in the face of public opinion. I could wish them luck in getting public buy-in and compliance. I could question how a major regulatory constraint on all rate payers can be decided by unelected bureaucrats rather than the Council. But frankly, why bother? They are Council Controlled Organisation but seem to have an independence that suggests no Council control exists. I sincerely hope I am proved wrong, but I foresee very little change to the accident statistics and very little adherence to the new limits. Enough said... I have been following the MotoGP with interest this season (yes, I know they are missing 2 wheels) and it’s been well worth it. With World Champion Marc Marquez being given a curry up by the rookie Quartararo, privateer teams often out-performing the factory teams and some scintillating racing it has been great to watch.

    June 23, 2017 Toyota Motor Corporation GAZOO Racing Company Rally Poland: Preview TOYOTA GAZOO Racing accelerates onto super-fast Polish stages The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team will take on some of the fastest roads in the FIA World Rally Championship on Rally Poland from June 29 to July 2, when it will look to continue its strong momentum last time out in Sardinia. Now the team faces a brand-new challenge on rapid gravel stages that are very different from those of southern Europe, but with the possibility of more very hot weather. Car 10(Jari-Matti Latvala, Miikka Anttila) Although it is the fourth consecutive round held on gravel, Rally Poland poses a very different challenge to the events held before it, with soft, sandy and flowing stages. The high speeds can be similar to those seen on Rally Finland, so it will provide a good opportunity for the team and three crews to develop the performance of the Yaris WRC in these demanding conditions ahead of the following round. Rally Poland is based at the town of Mikolajki in the north-east of the country, where a super special stage hosts the opening stage on Thursday evening. It features again at the end of both Friday and Saturday’s action, when it follows two loops of four stages. The rally ends on Sunday with two stages ran twice, featuring the new 18.68-kilometre Paprotki test that serves as the event-closing Power Stage. To prepare for next week’s rally, all three drivers took part in a test on gravel in Estonia, using similar roads to those that will be seen in Poland.

Heavy losses at Stalingrad, the capitulation of German and Italian forces in North Africa in May, the defeat at the Battle of Kursk in July, and the Allied landings in Italy put increasing stresses on the German military. Furthermore, an increasingly concentrated fury from above in the form of the allied bombing campaign appeared that threatened to reduce the Reich to rubble. This campaign began to extract a heavy toll on the German ability to produce and support her weapons, including the production of tanks.
