Directory of UK adult community eating disorder services Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network) in partnership with Hertfordshire Community Eating Disorders Service April 2021 Mission and Purpose The aim of this directory is to collate into one document a complete list of adult community eating disorder services across the UK. This directory also matches up UK universities with the local adult community eating disorder service in that region. The motivation for this project is to ease the referral process between two community eating disorder services when a service user moves out of area. The service provision, service structures, referral criteria and geographical boundaries for community eating disorder services vary across the country, which can make onward referrals challenging for clinicians. Ensuring accurate and smooth transitions for individuals with eating disorders is paramount. Transitions can increase risk in individuals with eating disorders and smooth continuous care is crucial to maintain recovery and ensure safety (Webb & Schmidt, 2020). This projects mission came out of the recent recommendations from a series of coroners’ inquests, like that of Averil Hart, that highlighted the vulnerability of young people with eating disorders who move to university and the need for smoother transition between eating disorder services (Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, 2017). This directory was designed to be used by members of the public and health professionals. To find the correct eating disorder you can search for the correct geographic region, postcode, or university name. Please be aware that referral criteria vary between eating disorder services, for example: some accept self-referrals, others require a referral from either a mental health professional or local GP. Additionally, some services accept referrals based on home postcode and other services use GP postcodes. Finally, some services have additional physical health requirements for example, BMI or prior blood screens. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that all local community eating disorder services be directly contacted via the contact information provided in this directory to discuss a referral as a first point of call. The directory can also be accessed online as an interactive map at the following link: https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiZjlkYzI5ZjItOTQ0ZC00NzE3LWJiYW UtYWRhYTUzNjM5ZDcyIiwidCI6ImNmNThkNDJmLTcxN2YtNDRjMi1iNTVkLTFh ODEyNWQ0OGRmYiIsImMiOjh9 This directory was created in partnership by Eastern AHSN and Hertfordshire Community Eating Disorders Service. With special thanks to BEAT and all the adult community eating disorder services across the UK that were contacted as part of this project.
