It is indeed a matter of pride for the College being a sensible part of quality movement initiated by NAAC. Garware College of Commerce is run by Maharashtra Education Society, which has been in itself a symbol of dedicated service through high impact quality education. It is pertinent to note that MES has a glorious existence of 155 years and GCC is incidentally celebrating its golden jubilee in the year 2016-17. Banking on our great legacy, and in view of National Policy on Education the College has taken numerous innovative steps across the three cycles of assessment in the areas of teaching-learning, research and extension. Our real success mainly lies in publication of Vision Document 2012-20, timely recruitment of staff, faculty development measures, creation of strong research ecosystem, proactive IQAC, participative governance, extensive use of college website, meaningful industry- academia interface, consultancy in quality initiatives in education, creation of entrepreneurial vigor, addition of new programmes, simplified and digitalized documentation system, participation in university administration, huge enhancement and renovation of existing infrastructure and internationalization of campus. These steps have become immensely instrumental in fetching great dividends in terms of quality sustenance and quality enhancement on the campus. In appreciation of these sincere endeavors, Savitribai Phule Pune University has conferred us ‘The Best College Award’ in the year 2013-14. ‘The days of our youth are days of our glory’, said a poet Lord Byron. Hence, The college has been functioning and marching forward keeping no stone unturned in making outstanding provisions of most updated and cutting edge knowledge for our young students. Quality parameters and core values propounded by NAAC have become a guiding philosophy for us. We strongly believe that growth of knowledge and inculcation of human sensibilities are the vital functions of higher education institutions. This Self-Study Report is a culmination and testimony of a fine combination of thoughts and persistence of team GCC. Undoubtedly, we are aware of existing as well as forthcoming challenges of commerce education. Therefore, it is incumbent on us to adopt globally accepted pragmatic educational processes in order to curtail the gap between world of knowledge and world of practice. With all humility, we submit this SSR to NAAC and we are highly eager to welcome wholeheartedly the peer team on our serene campus. Self-Study Report for 3rd Cycle of NAAC Accreditation Page 1 of 302 Executive Summary The Journey of the College so far... MES Garware College of Commerce is proud to present this Self-Study Report as an avowal to the institute‟s efforts towards quality sustenance and quality enhancement as undertaken particularly after the second cycle of accreditation in 2010. It endorses the commitment of the College towards imparting an excellent-quality and high- impact education in the field of Commerce. In this year of the Golden Jubilee of it‟s establishment, the College finds itself as one of the leading Higher Education Institute (HEI) in the faculty of Commerce in the educational hub of Pune city. The College, of course, proudly carries the aura of the resplendence of our Parent Body, Maharashtra Education Society (MES) that has been more of an educational and cultural movement in Maharashtra, since 1860. Being a part of such a great legacy has always made our institute aim high since its inception. The periodic round of NAAC accreditation gives the College an excellent opportunity to introspect the institutional policies and processes and refocus them to realize the institution‟s potentials to the fullest. The last accreditation by NAAC with a CGPA 3.39 strengthened the confidence of the College to soar even higher in the arena of Commerce HEIs. It, however, brought a sense of a collective responsibility of enhancing the quality as well as quantity of the institutional outcomes. M.E.S. established its institute for Higher Education in Commerce in 1967 in the premises of the erstwhile MES Arts and Science College itself. Later, this Commerce HEI moved to its own building and was renamed MES Garware College of Commerce. Since then, Garware College of Commerce has worked relentlessly till date to establish a brand GCC and carve a niche for itself as a leading educational institution in the national educational scenario. Today, the College runs 4 UG, 2 PG MESGCC Empowering generations since 1967... Page 2 of 302 Self-Study Report for 3rd Cycle of NAAC Accreditation and a Ph.D programme with 5 recognized guides in the staff. Presently around 3000 students take education in the College. The efficacy of the College is a result of the well-structured mechanisms developed by IQAC that try to keep a vigilant eye over various parameters of institutional performance. The College management is another pillar of our strength that supports all the visions and dreams of the institute. In the academic year 2013-2014, the College received the „Best College Award‟ in Pune city among all the colleges affiliated to SPPU. Since then, the journey of the College towards quality sustenance and quality enhancement has become even more speedy and ambitious. True to MES‟s aim of imparting nationalistic education for strong character-building and development of ideal citizenship for future, GCC has been trying to engage its learners into constructive and critical thoughts. The College has, thus, been contributing to the core values as envisioned by NAAC. Contribution to Core Values : A. Contribution to National Development : As a responsible seat of higher learning in the faculty of Commerce, the College is committed to „educate and deliver to the future of India, a file of performers, who are competent, industrious, entrepreneurial and socially responsible human beings‟. The stakeholders of the College work upon every single word of this Vision Statement. Today‟s young learners are the future human resource of the nation and hence nurturing these youngsters is considered to be the prime sacred duty and responsibility at GCC. The individual academic, socio-cultural and professional built-up of the students is ensured through a number of programs, events and experiences imparted by the College. Strong and ethical trade and commerce is the backbone of a country‟s economy and it is in this area that the College tries sincerely to contribute to national development. The College participates in 'Teach India Movement', 'Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan', etc. Garwarians, graduating from this institute, have been making it proud with their exemplary success in fields like banking, chartered and cost accounting, entrepreneurship, education, social service, drama, sports etc.
