Thiem owns all three previous meetings against the Frenchman, their last coming at Indian Wells in 2017. Monfils recently won the title in Doha, where he was slated to meet Thiem in the semi-finals before the Austrian withdrew. But first, he will have to get past World No. 51 Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene has dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman. The last time these two players met on the ATP World Tour level was on the clay courts of 2012 Barcelona, a contest that Delbonis took in straight sets.
