Thiem owns all three previous meetings against the Frenchman, their last coming at Indian Wells in 2017. Monfils recently won the title in Doha, where he was slated to meet Thiem in the semi-finals before the Austrian withdrew. Thiem is trying to become the first top seed to win the Buenos Aires title since Rafael Nadal in 2015. With a victory on Saturday, Federico Delbonis will not only reach the final in Buenos Aires, but he'll score career win No. 100, and he'll do so on his home soil, no less. But first, he will have to get past World No. 51 Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene has dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman. The last time these two players met on the ATP World Tour level was on the clay courts of 2012 Barcelona, a contest that Delbonis took in straight sets. Delbonis has yet to drop a set this week, while Bedene has given up only one. Thiem is also still alive in the doubles draw along with partner Diego Schwartzman. They will face the top-seeded Colombian team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the second doubles semi- final of the day on Court Guillermo Vilas. The first semi-final features an all-Argentine contest between No.

Mahut begins his busy day at 11 am against countryman Paul Henri-Mathieu. The Frenchmen were born nine days apart in 1982 and live in Boulogne-Billancourt. But despite their proximity in age and residence, Mahut and Mathieu have only met twice on the ATP World Tour. The older Mathieu leads 2-0 in their FedEx ATP Head 2 Head rivalry. Mahut is enjoying a milestone week in ’s-Hertogenbosch. The two-time champion began his title defense with a win over qualifier Lukas Lacko on Monday, the same day that he became the second World No. 1 from France in doubles or singles. Mahut joined Hall-of-Famer Yannick Noah, who spent 19 weeks atop the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings during the 1986 and 1987 seasons. Because his regular partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert is playing singles in Stuttgart this week, Mahut is teaming with World No. 10 Rohan Bopanna for the first time. They make their debut Wednesday in the third match on Court 1.

The Argentine is 5-16 against Federer with all five wins on hard courts, none more meaningful than when he rallied from a set-and-a-break down to deny Federer a sixth straight US Open title. Del Potro can prevent history from being made again as Federer and Rafael Nadal are one win from meeting for the first time at the US Open. The Swiss and Spaniard have been this close six times now, including in 2009, when del Potro defeated Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-finals before beating Federer in the final. • Nadal’s quarter-final opponent on Wednesday is #NextGenATP player Andrey Rublev. The 19-year-old Russian is the youngest US Open quarter-finalist since Andy Roddick in 2001. Rublev would be the youngest semi-finalist at the US Open since Lleyton Hewitt in 2000 and at any Grand Slam event since Nadal at 2005 Roland Garros. A teenager has never defeated a World No.
