Combining 2 or more sports on a high level

Problem situation

is sport that is unknown to the public and unknown to other sports coaches and athletes • It is also a very young sport in comparison to other sports and therefore counters some problems – No media attention (so nobody has an idea what it is) – Pools are already filled with other sports

1 Introduction

• Most clubs want their athlete to focus on one sport only. • Most athletes are however good in multiple sports. • There is transfer possible between two or more sports which can work benificial for all concerning sports.

Belgian examples

2 Ingeborg Marx

Marx was successful in various sports: equestrian sport, power lifting, weightlifting, athletics and . – In powerliftings she won the world title in 1994 and seven European titles (1992 to 1998). At the she won bronze in 1993 and silver in 1997. – As a weightlifter she participated in the of 2000 in Sydney and took the eleventh place in the category 58 kg. – In the pole vault she once jumped a European record (3.62 m) and as a hurdler she was in 1985 with the girls Belgian champion. – As a trackcyclist she broke six Belgian records.

5 How to combine 2 or more sports

To share my thoughts I’ve invited two foreign coaches that work closely with athletes that perform 2 or more sports on a high level. They will share their experiences with combining two sports on a high level. • Transfer • Workload • Number of competitions • Motivation • …. Over to the introduction of: • Elena Prelle • Raphaël Raymond

Elena Prelle

Elena Prelle (1979): Italian swimmer from 2001‐2007 who successfully combined swimming with lifesaving. She was competitive swimmer from 1989 to 2007. From 2007‐2010 she only focused on lifesaving . As a swimmer she achieved the following remarkable results: • European junior championships (1993 and 1994) B final • European short track championships (2005) • Several times finalist "FINA World Cup" • several times a final Italian championships (Open) medals: 2 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze, • several times a final Medals won in Italian championships fin swimming, triathlon and pentathlon. As a lifesaver, she broke 17 World Records, 23 European records and a cartload of medals: • World games (2005‐2009): 1x gold, 3x silver, 5x brons • World championships (2002‐2004‐2006‐2008‐2010): 27x gold, 5x silver, 2x bronze • European championships (2001‐2003‐2005‐2007): 11x gold, 3x silver, 5x bronze As a coach • 2005 ‐ 2010: age group 11‐13 year olds • 2010 ‐2016 age group 13 years and older • She was head coach since 2010, at the club (SaFa2000), which was in 51st place in the Italian Ranking stood. In 2010/2011 the club finished eighth, in 2011/2012 fourth, in 2012/2013 thirdly, in 2013/2014 second and third again in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. • 2010‐2013: project with top athletes from Safa 2000 and Rane Rosse • 2017 ‐ : National coach German National team Lifesaving

6 Raphaël Raymond

Raphael himself was a reasonably good swimmer that swam 2'15 on 200 back and 4'45 on 400m medley and 25"80 on 50m freestyle. Soon the coaching tickled him and quietly the reasonably good swimmer became a coach of some top athletes within the club ENA: Entente Nautique Albi (). ‐ Thomas Vilaceca ‐ Florian Laclaustra ‐ William Forgues ‐ Jérémy Badré ‐ Marvin Maisonneuve ‐Margot Lacan ‐Louis Sam Raphaël had a unique opportunity to work with Philippe Lucas, trainer of , Therese Alshammar, Camelia Potec, Sharon Van Rouwendaal and many other top athletes. The arrival in 2007 of Raphaël Raymond (assistant swimming coach of Philippe Lucas) revived the swimming in Albi and also under him the level of Rescue Swimming in France. From Albi he moved to Montauban Natation where he continued his successes. Then he was appointed in the Pôle France as Full time National trainer of the National team saving swim. The level of athletes that Raphaël works with speaks for itself: ‐ Raouf Benabid: OS 2004 just no limit 2008 ‐ Thomas Vilaceca: just no OS 2012 and 2016, several World and European titles in lifesaving ‐ Magaux Fabre: OS 2016, multiple World and European titles in saving swimming

16 THANKS!

Oser apprendre l’autre sport!
