From 1682, when King Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in 1789, the Court of Versailles was the centre of power in France. Spend several hours visiting the Palace of Palaces and the famous gardens with the fountains. In the afternoon we go up to the second floor of the EIFFEL TOWER for majestic views. This tower, built for the 1889 World's Fair, is one of the most recognizable structures in the world and is the most visited paid monument anywhere. Free time around the opera for shopping and dinner on your own. > Buffet breakfast, door-to-door transportation, entrances to Versailles and Eiffel Tower, Dream Castle Hotel Themeparks Kids' Private Tour – Disneyland Paris, Europa Park, Alsace and Black Forest 4 Day 5 – REIMS, ALSACE This morning we leave Paris and drive into the champagne region to visit the impressive 13th century French Gothic REIMS CATHEDRAL, where the kings of France were crowned. The cathedral was under siege by the English from 1359 to 1360 during the Hundred Years' War. After it fell the English held Reims and the Cathedral until 1429 when it was liberated by Joan of Arc. The towers are 267 feet / 81 metres tall. The three portals are laden with statues and statuettes. Among European cathedrals, only Chartres has more sculpted figures. Its stained glass windows date from the 13th to the 20th centuries. While we are in Reims the grown-ups should try a glass of the local and world-famous champagne. Other treats for the kids. We continue south to the ALSACE region and check into your local hotel in one of its picturesque medieval villages. Alsatian dinner in the country. > Buffet breakfast; door-to-door transportation; three-course dinner with menu choices, one beverage, and coffee or tea after; hotel in Alsace Day 6 – HAUT-KOENIGSBOURG, COLMAR Since its construction in the 12th century, the HAUT-KOENIGSBOURG CASTLE at Orschwiller in Alsace has been a constant witness to both European conflicts and rivalry between lords, kings and emperors. A number of illustrious owners each left their mark on the castle’s history, and successive events even led to changes in the castle’s structure. Enjoy a tour of this magnificent castle with its majestic architecture and its incredible view across the Alsatian plain. We continue to COLMAR in the heart of Alsace. Colmar's Germanic and French architectural heritage was spared by the frequent wars that ravaged this area. Highlights include the “Koïfhus”, Pfister House, and the House of Heads. The town has preserved the charm of its romantic districts (Tanner’s District, Little Venice). Enjoy your guided tour of the old town, which also includes a visit to the Bartholdi museum, housed in a vast residence which was the birthplace of the creator of New York's Statue of Liberty. Its rooms contain a collection of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi's most important works, thanks to the heritage the artist's widow left to the city. Dinner tonight in France. > Buffet breakfast, door-to-door transportation, entrance to Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, three-course dinner, hotel in Alsace Themeparks Kids' Private Tour – Disneyland Paris, Europa Park, Alsace and Black Forest 5 Day 7 – EUROPA PARK All day today at EUROPA PARK in Rust, on the western edge of Germany's Black Forest. New Attraction: Water Coaster "Atlantica" SuperSplash Off to new shores: Since March 19th 2005, the visitors of Europa-Park can look forward to a brand-new attraction. "Atlantica? SuperSplash is the name of the new water coaster which set sail for its maiden voyage at the beginning of Europa-Park's 30th anniversary season. A world novelty is one track section with turns and a backwards ride, which was never realised with boats of this size before. The new water coaster was designed by Mack Rides in Waldkirch, it is the first component of the Portuguese themed area, which will be completed in 2006. According to its history as a traditional seafaring nation, the main theming of Portugal is the era of the great Portuguese seafarers and discoverers in the 15th and 16th century, when it was a challenge to conquer the oceans. Go aboard and experience an adventurous ride through the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean! A 16th century Portuguese fortress is the center of the area around the "Atlantica? SuperSplash. Its interior is dominated by "Henry the Seafarer?, who points at the endless Atlantic Ocean in order to challenge everybody to set sail and discover the unnknown. Because once the visitors leave the strong walls of the protective fortress, they are put to a severe test? With a height of 32 meters, the "Atlantica? SuperSplash is Europa-Park's second-highest attraction (the "Silver Star? has a height of 73 meters). In five large boats, each one for up to 16 persons, the visitors are pulled up to the highest point of the water coaster.

  • Design of Roller Coasters
Aalto University School of Engineering Master’s Programme in Building Technology Design of Roller Coasters Master’s Thesis 24.7.2018 Antti Väisänen Aalto University, P.O. BOX 11000, 00076 AALTO www.aalto.fi Abstract of master's thesis Author Antti Väisänen Title of thesis Design of Roller Coasters Master programme Building Technology Code ENG27 Thesis supervisor Vishal Singh Thesis advisor Anssi Tamminen Date 24/07/2018 Number of pages 75 Language English Abstract This thesis combines several years of work experience in amusement industry and a litera- ture review to present general guidelines and principles of what is included in the design and engineering of roller coasters and other guest functions attached to them. Roller coasters are iconic structures that provide safe thrills for riders. Safety is achieved using multiple safety mechanisms: for example, bogies have multiple wheels that hold trains on track, a block system prevents trains from colliding and riders are held in place with safety restraints. Regular maintenance checks are also performed to prevent accidents caused by failed parts. Roller coasters are designed using a heartline spline and calculating accelerations in all possible scenarios to prevent rollbacks and too high values of accelerations, which could cause damage to riders’ bodies. A reach envelope is applied to the spline to prevent riders from hitting nearby objects. The speed and curvature of the track combined create acceler- ations that need to be countered with adequate track and support structures. A track cross- section usually consists of rails, cross-ties and a spine, while support structures can vary depending on height and loads.
