Die 1876/1877 (Soli Soprano, Alto, Tenore, Basso, Coro) entstandene Marienkomposition war es auch, die ihm endgültig weltweiten Ruhm einbrachte. Insgesamt ist die Gruppe der geist 2. Quis est homo 57 lichen Werke mit lateinischem Text, die Dvořák hinterließ, relativ (Soli Soprano, Alto, Tenore, Basso) klein, enthält dafür jedoch von Umfang und Gehalt her durchaus gewichtige Werke. Neben dem Stabat Mater sind hier vor allem 3. Eja Mater, fons amoris 86 die Messe D-Dur op. 86, das Requiem op. 89 und das Te Deum (Coro) op. 103 zu nennen.
