JUNO Award nominees and /or winners (6-8) select works within a gallery’s Canadian collections that serve as personal or artistic inspiration, their response is video recorded, and displayed in the gallery next to their chosen piece on screen and via a gallery label, as a part of The JUNO Tour of Canadian Art (JTOCA). Mai 2017, Von: Andreas Haug, Foto(s): Torsten Gadegast Mehr ruhige, intensive Momente, als Druck und Tempo: Am gestrigen Sonntagabend spielte der kanadische Musiker und Ex-The-Weakerthans-Frontmann John K.Samson mit seiner Band The Winter Wheat ein bemerkenswertes Konzert in Hannover. Im sehr gut besuchten LUX wurde ihm dabei hohe Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Wenn nicht ganz selten mal eine Getränkeflasche auf den Boden kullerte, hätte man bei Balladen zeitweise die berühmte Stecknadel fallen hören. Neben dem Material aus seinen beiden Solo-Alben spielte Samson auch einige Songs aus dem Fundus der 2015 aufgelösten The Weakerthans. Da ist dieses verschmitzte Lächeln, der meist offene Blick in das aufmerksam lauschende Hannoveraner Publikum, hier und da ein Grinsen und ein Funkeln in den Augen: Der kanadische Sänger, Gitarrist und Songschreiber John K.Samson wirkt entspannt und ausgeschlafen, scheint den 75-minütigen Auftritt hier im LUX sichtlich zu genießen. Ebenso, wie die zahlreich erschienenen Besucher, die, von ganz, ganz wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen, sich mit voller Aufmerksamkeit Samson und seiner Band The Winter Wheat hingeben, deren Rhythmusgruppe, wie auch Samson selbst, schon in der 2015 aufgelösten Indie-Rock-Band The Weakerthans zusammen wirkten. The Weakerthans mit Sänger und Frontmann John K.Samson war eine Band, die in der Indie-Szene eine hohe Wertschätzung genoss, in Deutschland vor allem durch ihr 2003er-Album „Reconstruction Site“, das zu den herausragenden Veröffentlichungen der Band aus Winnipeg zählt.
