Oct 19, Jim C rated it liked it. This is a Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion audiobook that is based on the television series. In this one, there is a new invention that allows humans to immediately comprehend every known language. The problem with this is that the human mind cannot handle this much information. I enjoyed this offering from this universe and this could have been a filler episode for the television series. I thought the narrator did a terrific job and nailed the portrayals for This is a quick audiobook that is based on the television series. I thought the narrator did a terrific job and nailed the portrayals for The Doctor and Amy. The delivery method for this new invention was a bit silly that is saying something considering this is a Doctor Who story and I wasn't into this book at the beginning. I continued and I liked the underlying subtle message that this book delivered. I like the concept of applying science without truly testing all the side effects and coping with the consequences. There can be devastating effects but we cannot stop science and lose sight of the future. Like some Doctor Who episodes this audiobook had parts that were a little silly and over the top. But also in Doctor Who fashion it delivers when it all comes together including the overall message. Jul 16, Kimberley doruyter rated it it was ok. Apr 21, Jennifer rated it it was ok Shelves: audiobooksfictionlibrary-loanread A story in which not so very much happens, short and straightforward - one of those where you feel you must have missed something. What I liked about it was the way it wasn't another story of mad scientists doing bad things for which they are unrepentant, and the Doctor is very respectful and supportive to a scientist who has made a terrible error for which she takes responsibility. It's a nice concept - trying to make a basic household product fulfil Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion function to give it a market edge and A story in which not so very much happens, short and straightforward - one of those where you feel you must have missed something. It's a nice concept - trying to make a basic household product fulfil another function to give it a market edge and the impact is interesting and measured though no less tragic for that I'm not Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion sure about the narration by Meera Syal - it never quite seems to hit the spot if someone who has not been involved with the TV series reads the audiobooks and to have such a recognisable voice was a tad distracting although she did read in an accessible way. She doesn't do a very good job reading the roles of Amy and the 11th Doctor. She makes the 11th Doctor sound more like David Tennant's Doctor his syntax and all that. Amy is not Scottish sounding in this audiobook. Nicholas Whyte mentions that she sounds a bit Ulster. I'm not sure what an Ulster accent exactly sounds like so I can't comment on that, but I know that the ac Not very impressed with this one. I'm not sure Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion an Ulster accent exactly sounds like so I can't comment on that, but I know that the accent that Syal is trying to attempt is not Amy's Scotch. The way Syal reads the narrative makes it sound more like a children's book. It's all in her voice-- the way she says things. It makes me wonder if she would be more suited to doing other projects. It will make you able to speak and understand all languages. The Doctor decides to visit the plant that is making the stuff and to help them test it out he mentions he'll do it for money Of course, when he and Amy get there they quickly find out that the hand soap is made from an alien race that has the ability to understand all Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion has only been tested on a human- like species but not humans themselves. When humans use the soap they get a nasty reaction of their brain being overloaded with too many languages at once and only being able to chant "Listen to me". Amy gets infected, Doctor saves the day, all is well again. I like the idea of the Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion soap Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion everything else? This is the most ludicrous DW story EVER - its a confused mess much of which makes absolutely no sense and the payoff really isn't Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion it. On the Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion side I did like the infected humans repeating 'listen to me' and then vomiting up starfish Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion - admittedly that was creepy - served no purpose, but was quite cool. The only reason this gets 2 stars rather than one, which the poor story deserves, is the marvellous narration by Meera Syal - she's lively, does lots of different accents and does an amazing job to make this stinker actually listenable. A very typical story of science gone wrong and an evil and stupid corporation that gets in the Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion way of saving people. It's a slow moving base under siege tale that's mostly utterly predictable, except the way the Eleventh Doctor is written is a bit off and a lack of effort in making any of the guest characters interesting or original. There was even the evil sadistic American military officer with "muscle" in his surname. I will say the nature of the cotangent was actually pretty inventive, and there were a couple slightly amusing moments at the very end. Otherwise, this book is imminently skippable.
