A three-time First Team All- WCHA pick, the Mannheim, Germany native enters the year as the top active career scoring leader in the nation with 118 points (51g/67a) in 117 career games played. Michaelis was and this year's WCHA Preseason Player of the year. • Sophomore netminder Dryden McKay was named 2018-19 CHN National Rookie of the Year after posting a 24-7-2 mark, .927 save percentage and 1.76 goals against average in his rookie campaign last year. • Selected in the third round (91st overall) by Winnipeg in the 2018 National Hockey League entry draft, freshman forward Nathan Smith was selected the WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year by the league's coaches. Smith registered 18 goals and 35 assists for 53 points in 59 games with Cedar Rapids of the USHL last season. • Minnesota State established school records for most wins (32) and home victories (21) in 2018-19. The 32 wins were the most by any team in the nation and the Mavericks enter the year having won at least 20 games for seven consecutive years. • The Mavericks led the country last year with 44 power play goals and also led the nation in goal margin (+71) and goals against average (1.81). • Minnesota State went 21-1-0 in home contests in 2018-19 and ranked 18th in the country in home attendance with a 4,120 average over the course of 22 contests.

The media picked Northern Michigan to fi nish third through the regular season, behind only unanimous favorite Minnesota State and Bowling Green. • Having served as an alternate captain in 2018-19, senior defenseman Philip Beaulieu was named captain of the 2019-20 squad prior to the season. • The third head coach in NMU Hockey history enters his third season behind the bench in 2019-20. In two seasons with the team, Grant Potulny has led the Wildcats to two 20+ win seasons and boasts a career head coaching record of 46-31-5. Last season the team went 21-16-2, which included a berth in the WCHA semifi nals where they faced Bowling Green. In his fi rst season at the helm of the Wildcats, Potulny’s team recorded a 25-15-3 season, it’s fi rst 25-win season since 2001-02 and advanced to the WCHA Championship game. • The Wildcats host Michigan State in their home opener on Oct. 11. • The former CCHA rivals have met on 71 occasions, including a series split last season in East Lansing.
