The Red and White, NCHC preseason favorites a year ago, return all but two letter winners to start a new postseason streak this year. Adding in the newcomers gives the RedHawks seven players who were drafted by an NHL team (five forwards, two defensemen). The two defensemen (Louie Belpedio-MIN and Colin Sullivan-MTL) are expected to play heavy minutes and improve a defense that fell from second nationally (1.74 goals against average) in 2012-13 to 41st (3.03) a year ago. While the Red and White attack ranked 26th nationally in scoring last year (2.92 goals per game), their offense is expected to be a big strength. Miami’s returners account for 107 of the team’s 111 goals and 285 of its 289 points. All-NCHC picks Austin Czarnik (First-Team; 47 points) and Riley Barber (Second-Team; 44 points) headline the group, which brought its top eight scorers back from the 2013-14 campaign.
