6 President of San Francisco 4gers.

7 8 WHEREAS, In 1946 the San Francisco 4gers Football team became the first major

9 league professional sports franchise based in San Francisco and one of the first professional

10 sports team based on the West Coast of the United States; and 11 WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco takes pride in sharing a 12 phenomenal history of football, sporting events, and community with the San Francisco 4gers

13 Football Team; and 14 WHEREAS, The San Francisco 4gers are honored as 'The Team of the Eighties," as

15 the first national football team to win five NFL championship and Super Bowl games, four of 16 which during the mid to late 1980's, including Super Bowl games XVI, XIX, XXII, XXIV, and

17 XXIX; and 18 WHEREAS, The San Francisco 4gers team has consistently featured magnificent

19 players that have achieved multiple records for the team and are honored in the Professional

20 Football Hall of Fame, including Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Y. A. Tittle, Joe 21 Perry, John Henry Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Ronnie Lott, Dave Wilcox, Leo Nomellini, Fred

22 Dean, Bob St. Clair, and Hugh McElhenny; and 23 WHEREAS, In October of 2008 Mike Singletary was named the interim head coach of

24 the San Francisco 4gers Football Team; and

1 WHEREAS, As a player, Mike Singletary distinguished himself with an outstanding

2 career as a linebacker within the National Football League for over eighteen years for which

3 was enshrined in the National Football League Hall of Fame in 1998; and 4 WHEREAS, On Sunday, December ze". after leading the San Francisco 4gers to a 5 win against the Washington Redskins and a record of 5 and 4 as the interim coach, the San 6 Francisco 4gers named Mike Singletary as the te" head coach in the franchise history; and 7 WHEREAS, Jed York has been a devoted 4gers fan since attending his first 4gers

8 game in 1984; and 9 WHEREAS, Jed York has worked within the 4gers organization to promote the

10 greatness of the 4gers since 2005; and th 11 WHEREAS, On December 28 , Jed York was named Team President of the San

12 Francisco 4gers football team; and 13 WHEREAS, Jed York will help lead the 4gers back to the playoffs and will help return

14 them to the Super Bowl; and therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco

16 Congratulates Mike Singletary on becoming the sixteenth head coach of the San Francisco

17 4gers football team; and therefore, be it 18 FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San

19 Francisco congratulates Jed York on his appointment at Team President of the San

20 Francisco 4gers Football Team; and therefore, it be 21 FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San 22 Francisco wishes both President Jed York and Head Coach Mike Singletary the best in their 23 new leadership roJesand looks forward to celebrating a sixth Super Bowl Championship in 24 the City and County of San Francisco with President York and Coach Singletary in the very

25 near future.
