WWW.FANDOMCOMICS.COM WWW.WIZARDS.COM Chapter 6 The Jedi Order The Jedi Order has existed in parallel to the Galactic Republic for over twenty-five thousand years. They have acted as guardians of peace throughout the galaxy, settling disputes and providing the kind of sage advice that can only be given through pure benevolence and deep understanding of the Force. During the restructuring of the Galactic Republic following the New Sith War a thousand years ago, the Jedi Order willingly placed itself under the appointment to the office of the Supreme Chancellor. By the request of the leader of the galactic government, the Jedi served as ambassadors, diplomats and intermediaries to the various governing bodies of the Republic and its allies. With the onset of the Clone Wars, the Supreme Chancellor appointed the Jedi to act as generals and commanders to the Grand Army of the Republic. During this sinister time, many Jedi from Master to Padawan fought and lost their lives. The following is a chronicling of some of the most notable participants. chapter 6 The Jedi Council During the Clone Wars, the Jedi Council was forced to take on the roles of military commanders and strategists, serving under the Senate and the Supreme Chancellor. While most of the Jedi Council served as High Generals in the Grand Army of the Republic, 4 Allies and opponents directing its ten Systems Armies, they also saw the Clone Wars The Jedi Order from the front lines while leading smaller contingents into battle. These are the members of the Jedi Council who fought during the Clone Wars. Adi Gallia Adi Gallia was a sylphlike, dark-skinned, Corellian-born human who was seated on the Jedi Council for a number of years preceding the Clone Wars. Despite the Jedi taboo of attachment, Gallia maintained a semblance of a relationship with her diplomat- parents and wore a tholoth headdress, traditional to her native Corellia. At a very young age, she was recognized for her innate sensitivity to the Force and was brought before the Jedi Council by her parents to begin her training. She inherited her parents’ talent for diplomacy and was a valuable asset to the Jedi Order in Adi Gallia Adi Gallia trained at least two Padawan Learners during her tenure, the most notable of which was a human female named Siri Tachi. Gallia and Tachi, along with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, were sent to the planet Kegan to establish diplomatic talks with the isolationist world while testing an infant for Force sensitivity twenty-one years before the Clone Wars. By convincing the planet’s inhabitants to shake off the cruelty of the Benevolent Guides who controlled the planet, Gallia and her companions were able to convince Kegan to lift its self-imposed quarantine and join the Galactic Republic. One year later, Gallia and Tachi assisted Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi on a mission to the strip-mined world of Simpla-12. There they rescued Qui-Gon Jinn from the crazed scientist Jenna Zan Arbor and foiled her scheme to contaminate the planet’s water supply.     STAR WARS: THE FASCISM AWAKENS 7 Star Wars: The Fascism Awakens Representation and its Failure from the Weimar Republic to the Galactic Senate Chapman Rackaway University of West Georgia Whether in science fiction or the establishment of an earthly democracy, constitutional design matters especially in the realm of representation. Democracies, no matter how strong or fragile, can fail under the influence of a poorly constructed representation plan. Two strong examples of representational failure emerge from the post-WWI Weimar Republic and the Galactic Republic’s Senate from the Star Wars saga. Both legislatures featured a combination of overbroad representation without minimum thresholds for minor parties to be elected to the legislature and multiple non- citizen constituencies represented in the body. As a result both the Weimar Reichstag and the Galactic Senate fell prey to a power-hungry manipulating zealot who used the divisions within their legislature to accumulate power. As a result, both democracies failed and became tyrannical governments under despotic leaders who eventually would be removed but only after wars of massive casualties. Representation matters, and both the Weimer legislature and Galactic Senate show the problems in designing democratic governments to fairly represent diverse populations while simultaneously limiting the ability of fringe groups to emerge. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of representative democracies.
