Dear Julie Anne

Freedom of Information Act 2000 Information Request, Reference Number CAS-36176-Z3V2L6

Your request for information has now been considered and the information requested is enclosed.

If you have any queries or concerns then please contact me.

1) What incidents occurred and damage to the buses from January 2019 to present on Canklow Road, ? This will include any incidents logged by drivers or South Police, or recorded by CCTV, local news and social media

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and Police have logged two acts of vandalism causing smashed glazing to buses on Canklow Road, Rotherham, between 1st of January and 30th of April 2019. The first was in January and the last incident occurred on Saturday 27 April 2019.

As a result of the anti-social behaviour on Saturday 27 April, services 73, 74 and 74a were diverted from Canklow Road to Centernary Road and Road on both directions for a few hours, until 9:10pm. Services on Canklow Road were resumed by 9:40pm on the same evening. We have no records of other incidents since and we have no records of services 73, 74 or 74a being an issue.

Those were considered isolated incidents and is currently investigating them. We don’t hold data on incidents recorded by CCTV, local news and social media.

2) What action has been made to prevent such vandalism and any steps to engage with the community?

Police officers were made aware and passing attention will be given to the area. As there were only two minor incidents in four months – a low incidence compared to other areas – the police doesn’t have any immediate plans regarding the community. It will, though, be closely monitored to ensure there is no escalation or crime patterns emerging.

3) Does First South Yorkshire have plans to accommodate these customers who are not responsible for the actions of vandals?

As explained above, bus services were resumed on Canklow Road on the same evening and haven’t been disturbed since.

In accordance with the procedures of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), I am advising you that the cost to the authority in responding to this request has been £25 which reflects the staff time and administration costs involved. SYPTE however does not currently make any charge to customers for processing Freedom of Information Act requests.
