The Community Foundation continued to address issues facing immigrants in our region, such as day laborer centers, English- language training, parent involvement and nonprofit advocacy. Apart from the grantmaking activities of our many donors, The Community Foundation’s discretionary Community Leadership Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater Washington region. In addition, The Foundation’s growing Philanthropic Advisory Services division makes grants in consultation with and/or on behalf of private foundations and corporate-giving programs whose funds are housed at The Community Foundation.

ACT welcomed 10 new donor funds, increasing its assets to more than $5.5 million; helped expand the impact of its Women’s Giving Circle of Alexandria initiative (see page 34); led a private/ public collaboration to establish the Center for Alexandria’s Children, serving abused children; and launched Give Back Alexandria, a new donor social network aimed at educating and engaging the city’s next generation of philanthropists. the montgomery county community foundation Celebrating its 10th anniversary in FY2007, The Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) continued to expand its reach. MCCF encourages individuals, families and businesses in Montgomery County to give locally and regionally as well as nationally and internationally. MCCF works closely with individuals, families and businesses to help them achieve their charitable-giving goals and welcomes their participation in the Sharing Montgomery Fund, which supports effective nonprofit organizations working with children and families from low-income households. 50 | 2007 annual report the prince george’s community foundation In FY2007, The Prince George’s Community Foundation (PGCF) underscored its role as a vibrant part of rapidly-growing Prince George’s County. PGCF expanded its role as a community convener through a series of discussion forums co-organized with Washington Grantmakers’ Sustainable Communities Working Group, resulting in The Partnership for Prince George’s County. The initiative is designed to strengthen the capacity of local nonprofits by leveraging new philanthropic resources supporting their work. In addition, PGCF welcomed four new funds, increasing its FY2007 assets to $2.9 million.
