For Immediate Release 25Th Annual Florida Film Festival Media Contact: Valerie Cisneros [email protected] 407-629-1088 x302 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 25TH ANNUAL FLORIDA FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES PROGRAM LINEUP, CELEBRITY GUESTS, AND NEW OSCAR® ACCREDITATION Orlando, FL – (March 16, 2016) – The Florida Film Festival announced today the program lineup for the 25th Annual Festival, April 8-17, 2016, in Maitland and Winter Park, Florida, with Primary Sponsor Full Sail University and Primary Public Partners Orange County Government and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. The Festival will screen more than 180 films representing 36 countries, along with celebrity guest appearances, forums, and parties. Of the films selected, 138 have premiere status, including 24 world premieres. Full lineup listed below. Film descriptions, trailers, stills, and schedule available at: http://www.floridafilmfestival.com/ For over a decade, the Florida Film Festival has been accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in both Live Action Short Film and Animated Short Film categories. As of December 2015, the festival has also been accredited in the category of Documentary Short Subject, making it one of the select few in the world to be accredited in all three shorts categories. Recipients of the Festival’s Grand Jury Awards will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Documentary Short Subject categories of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules. Henry Maldonado, President of Enzian and the Florida Film Festival, remarked, “Twenty five years, and still getting better! For ten glorious days, we’ll have parties, movie stars, even a farmer’s market, and of course, movies. Those of you who come year after year know it and love it. So, for those of you who have not been, our friendly festival is filled with charming, fun days where you can mingle with great filmmakers and talent.” “I just love the diversity and filmmaking talent that will be on display in this year’s lineup,” commented Matthew Curtis, Florida Film Festival Programming Director. “With the most films we’ve ever programmed in one FFF, the most countries ever represented, the most female filmmakers (59), and an exciting mix of new voices and 35 FFF alumni returning with outstanding new work, this promises to be a truly banner year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary.” The 20 feature and 67 short films in the American Independent Competition will be eligible for up to three awards each: a Grand Jury Award for best film in that category, a Special Jury Award given at the jury’s discretion for exceptional achievements, and an Audience Award determined by audience votes for Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, and Best Short Film. International films are also eligible for Audience Awards for Best International Feature and Best International Short. New this year, due to the extraordinary popularity of the Midnight Shorts category, an Audience Award will be given for Best Midnight Short as well. 2016 OFFICIAL SELECTION: OPENING NIGHT FILM: THE LOBSTER – IRELAND/UK/GREECE/FRANCE/NETHERLANDS/USA, DIRECTED BY YORGOS LANTHIMOS Preceded by: ESCARGORE – NEW ZEALAND, DIRECTED BY OLIVER HILBERT, EAST COAST PREMIERE SPOTLIGHT FILMS: BEING CHARLIE – DIRECTED BY ROB REINER, SOUTHEAST PREMIERE/2nd US SHOWING THE FAMILY FANG – DIRECTED BY JASON BATEMAN, SOUTHEAST PREMIERE/2ND US SHOWING HIGH-RISE – DIRECTED BY BEN WHEATLEY HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE – DIRECTED BY TAIKA WAITITI, FLORIDA PREMIERE LO AND BEHOLD: REVERIES OF THE CONNECTED WORLD – DIRECTED BY WERNER HERZOG LOLO – DIRECTED BY JULIE DELPY, FLORIDA PREMIERE LOUDER THAN BOMBS – DIRECTED BY JOACHIM TRIER, SOUTHEAST PREMIERE LOVE & FRIENDSHIP – DIRECTED BY WHIT STILLMAN MORRIS FROM AMERICA – DIRECTED BY CHAD HARTIGAN NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU – DIRECTED BY HEIDI EWING AND RACHEL GRADY RAIDERS!: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE – DIRECTED BY JEREMY COON AND TIM SKOUSEN, FLORIDA PREMIERE TICKLED – DIRECTED BY DAVID FARRIER AND DYLAN REEVE NARRATIVE FEATURES COMPETITION: CHEERLEADER –DIRECTED BY IRVING FRANCO, FLORIDA PREMIERE/2nd US SHOWING CRUSH THE SKULL – DIRECTED BY VIET NGUYEN, SOUTHEAST PREMIERE DONALD CRIED – DIRECTED BY KRIS AVEDISIAN, SOUTHEAST PREMIERE EMBERS – DIRECTED BY CLAIRE CARRÉ HONEY BUDDIES – DIRECTED BY ALEX SIMMONS, EAST COAST PREMIERE HUNKY DORY – DIRECTED BY MICHAEL CURTIS JOHNSON, FLORIDA PREMIERE MAD – DIRECTED BY ROBERT G. LONG SUMMARY Molly Shannon plays Emily Dickinson in the dramatic comedy " Wild Nights with Emily." The poet’s persona, popularized since her death, became that of a reclusive spinster – a delicate wallflower, too sensitive for this world. This film explores her vivacious, irreverent side that was covered up for years — most notably Emily’s lifelong romantic relationship with another woman (Susan Ziegler). After Emily died, a rivalry emerged when her brother's mistress (Amy Seimetz) along with editor T.W.

  • Bill's Guide to Week Two of the 47Th Annual Chicago International Film
Bill’s Guide to Week Two of the 47th Annual Chicago International Film Festival By Bill Stamets Special for Films for Two® My recommended films in Week Two (in “must see” order): 1.) Pina: German director Wim Wenders previously profiled Japanese film director Yasujiro Ozu, Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and Cuban musicians. His latest documentary introduces cinefiles to the choreography of German avant-gardist Pina Bausch. In his first use of 3-D cinematography, Wenders evokes the volume of the stage, even for performances staged in non-theatrical settings, including a tramway and an escalator. Four different works are presented. Some are revisited via archival 2-D footage. Seeing various versions adds more figurative depth to our appreciation of Bausch's work than the 3-D adds literal depth to our onscreen perception. Bausch's death during the making of the film may have lent an elegiac note to the laudatory interviews with members of her international company Tanztheater Wuppertal. They do not speak on camera during looking-into-the lens portrait sessions. The soundtrack excerpts their comments, apparently recorded off- camera, to underscore their role as voiceless dancers. Wenders channels Bausch's tactile and theoretical grasp of the body as metaphysical material for art. 2.) The Descendants: Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt, Election, Citizen Ruth) directs George Clooney as Matt King, an Hawaiian lawyer dealing with his wife hospitalized in a coma and their 10-year-old and 17- year-old daughters. Payne and his co-writers start from Kaui Hart Hemmings' 2008 novel for a truly touching male melodrama, as Clooney's character reconciles his mixed emotions about his wife.

  • Scene and Heard: a Profile of Laura Colella
Scene and Heard: A Profile of Laura Colella She sits quietly in a coffee shop, waiting. She is of small stature, and fine boned. She has striking eyes and a beautiful face, one that easily could be in front of the camera. Providence born and raised, no one she knew ever talked about becoming a filmmaker. She is definitely under the radar – but is soaring very high. This is Laura Colella. In her 44 years, she has managed to impress some very important people in the film world. One of those folks is Paul Thomas Anderson – the same Paul Thomas Anderson who wrote and directed The Master, There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights and my personal favorite (and I believe his), Magnolia. Last February, he hosted a screening of her film Breakfast with Curtis in LA, and held a lengthy Q & A session afterward. In the same month, at the Independent Spirit Awards, the film was nominated for the John Cassavetes Award for Best Feature made for under $500,000, and won a $50,000 distribution grant from Jameson. Her love of film started early. She grew up heavily involved in theater, was in a few productions at Trinity Rep, and worked there as a production assistant. “My first year in college at Harvard, my boyfriend took me to the end-of-year film screenings at RISD, which opened up that world of possibility for me. I discovered the excellent film department at Harvard, which centered on 16MM production, became totally immersed in it, and never looked back.” Laura now has three features under her belt – Tax Day, her first, for which she received a special equipment grant through the Sundance Institute, portrays two women on their way to the post office on that dreaded day, April 15.

When Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them, the clueless duo embark on another cross-country mission to stop it all over again! 1 CAST & CREW BIOGRAPHIES: KEVIN SMITH (Silent Bob, Director / Writer) Kevin Smith has been saying silly cinematic shit since his first film Clerks, released way back in 1994. He had a heart attack and almost died last year but survived solely so he could direct his magnum opus, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. A polygamist, he’s married to both his wife Jen and podcasting. JASON MEWES (Jay) Jason Mewes most recently made his directorial debut on MADNESS IN THE METHOD, which was released in August 2019. With cult-fans following his controversial antics, Mewes has captured audiences with his rebellious banter against his unspoken other half and longtime friend, Kevin Smith. Since the beginning of the duo’s offbeat work together, Mewes and Smith have continued to build on their beloved character-driven roles from the Jay and Silent Bob series. It’s been over a decade since fans last saw the duo in live- action, but they’re back along with a star-studded cast in the upcoming comedy film, JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT.
