FOREWORD
Please read carefully before starting the tasks:
The tasks set out in this workbook are organized initially in class and then for independent study. You will be guided through the initial tasks and then you can continue, in your own time, systematically covering as much as possible from the remaining tasks. If you do not attend classes please work through the tasks as they appear in the workbook.
Each student must bring no more than 20 translations (from appendix 3) in total to office hours over the duration of the course. The evaluation grid will be completed gradually based on these translations. No more than 2 translations per office hour will be corrected. The reason for this is the formative nature of the workbook. You can only learn from your mistakes and learning takes time as you need time to accept, study and rectify the errors that you make. Presenting me with 3, 4 or 15 translated texts for correction in one sitting is really not good use of our limited time together.

BAD TRANSLATIONS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE Look at the following translations. Identify and correct the errors and decide why the errors occurred.

Section 3: Making Language Choices
Look at the options given in each translation and make notes on which one is better, why, and why the other two options are not appropriate
1. In farmacia
Hai trovato lavoro in Italia per tutta l’estate. Qualche giorno dopo il tuo arrivo ti senti male e vai in farmacia a chiedere consiglio. 1. Saluta il/la farmacista e di’ che non ti senti bene (febbre, raffreddore, mal di stomaco, ecc.). 2. Rispondi alle domande che il/la farmacista ti fa (da quanto tempo stai male, episodi precedenti, cosa hai fatto, cosa hai mangiato, ecc.). 3. Il/la farmacista ti dà dei consigli. Fa’ domande per avere chiarimenti/maggiori informazioni (durata della cura, dose, attività che puoi o non puoi fare, cibi che puoi o non puoi mangiare, ecc.). 4. Spiega che per te è particolarmente importante guarire presto perché devi cominciare il tuo lavoro estivo (specifica quale lavoro) la settimana prossima. 5. Rispondi a quello che dice il/la farmacista, fa’ eventuali altre domande necessarie e concludi la conversazione in modo appropriato.

4. Il mondo sta cambiando e l’Europa e l’Italia cambiano anch’esse. Questa mutazione ci stupisce: che dobbiamo fare? Assistere passivamente? Reagire? Ma come? Ogni Paese, ogni Stato, ogni continente reagirebbe a suo modo secondo gli interessi, i valori, i sentimenti delle persone, dei popoli, delle plebi. È questo fenomeno che si sta per la prima volta verificando? Io non credo: il mondo cambia continuamente e quelli che lo vivono pensano che una grande novità si stia verificando, ma non è così. Tutto si muove di continuo, attimo per attimo, dentro e fuori di noi. Spesso i mutamenti ci sembrano impercettibili e infatti lo sono, ma col passare del tempo diventano massa. Questo ci spaventa e ci mobilita. Insomma ci scuote. Vogliamo dargli un nome? È la vita. Diversa ma estremamente simile per ciascuno di noi.

ROMA - Angel Faria Fiorentini, un ragazzo italo-venezuelano di 25 anni originario di Molfetta (Bari), è stato fermato a Caracas durante una manifestazione contro il Presidente Maduro ed è tuttora rinchiuso in un carcere militare. Non capii perché lo chiamasse in causa, ma Berlusconi me lo spiegò subito. “Come penale che devi pagare, anche per dare un esempio agli altri dipendenti della mia azienda, mi cedi il palazzo e anche il bar che sta accanto”. 18. Biagio Agnes «Ogni 2 novembre il direttore generale Agnes andava puntualmente a Serino, suo paese natio, per deporre i fiori sulla tomba di famiglia. Quell’anno fu avvicinato da un’anziana compaesana, che in dialetto lo apostrofò: “Tu sssi Biagio Agnes? Chillo ca cumanda in televisione? Tu addà fa turnà Pippo Baudo”. “Se no?”. “Se no muori”. Mille volti E poi Sandra Mondaini ubriaca di sangria, la sbronza triste di Liza Minnelli, il no di Raffaella Carrà che rifiuta un programma per non «tradire» Corrado, Sharon Stone che si presenta nuda davanti a Pippo in camera d’albergo, Vittorio Gassman che gli rompe la schiena in diretta tv e lo manda all’ospedale, Heather Parisi che balla sulla scrivania di un dirigente Rai per farsi scritturare.
20. «Un balzo del 50%» Il motivo? E’ presto detto: Lisbona offre agevolazioni esentasse per i pensionati d’Europa, spalmate su un periodo di dieci anni ( a patto di risiederci almeno sei mesi e un giorno all’anno), portando di fatto a zero il prelievo fiscale sugli emolumenti. Una misura che durerà, per ora, fino alla fine del 2019, salvo proroghe del governo di Lisbona. Intanto però sono in migliaia ad approfittarne: «C’è stato un balzo del cinquanta per cento nel 2017 degli italiani residenti qui. E buona parte era formata da questi pensionati» spiega Matteo Gabellieri, una vita in Portogallo, architetto e guida turistica ( ha un suo sito ilmioportogallo ) e collaboratore di Nuova Vita, organizzazione con sede in Veneto che si occupa di accompagnare questi “migranti” nella loro nuova destinazione: «C’è gente di ogni tipo: dalle coppie ai single che vogliono fare esperienze diverse. Anche se la motivazione economica gioca sicuramente la sua parte».
21. L’arzillissimo Montanari Come nel caso dell’arzillissimo Dino Montanari, 81 anni da Bondeno, Ferrara, due mogli (l’ultima, moldava è qua con lui) e una vita in giro per il mondo come maestro di saldatura: ha scelto proprio Caparica come buen retiro. Beh, con queste agevolazioni, ho 800 euro in più al mese, una bella cifra qui in Portogallo. E poi in Italia mi annoiavo: qui c’è sempre un bel clima, la gente è ospitale. E, sì ,tutto costa poco». Già, il suo appartamento di 80 metri quadri si affitta a 400 euro e quando scende al bar, una replica di qualunque nostro di provincia, z il caffè mi viene a 60 centesimi e quando non ho voglia di cucinare un panino con la bistecca, il prego come si chiama qui, tre euro». Insomma, una qualità di vita molto alta per chi invece da noi si deve arrabattare: «In un quarto d’ora sono in spiaggia e prima poi imparerò anch’io ad andare sulla tavola da surf» scherza ma non troppo Dino. Perché per invecchiare (male) c’è sempre tempo.
22. Un uomo innocente Più che i giorni in cella da innocente. Più dell’errore che lo ha trasformato in un delinquente, anche se non ha mai avuto un guaio con la legge. La cosa che ha fatto più male è un’altra: «Non essere ascoltato da nessuno». Lo dice quasi tra le lacrime, Ahmed Abou Elhammd Abbas Ahmed, 58enne italiano di origine egiziana, incensurato. L’uomo accusato ingiustamente di 8 assalti per rapina ai danni di incolpevoli cittadini che prelevavano al bancomat, arrestato il 18 gennaio. E per 8 giorni chiuso in carcere per colpa di una somiglianza con il vero bandito che, secondo quanto appreso, sarebbe stato individuato dagli investigatori. Ora la procura ha chiesto l’archiviazione del fascicolo aperto nei suoi confronti, ma gli strascichi dell’errore restano evidenti. «Mi hanno trattato come un criminale, senza neanche il tempo di spiegare che con quei fatti non c’entravo nulla», racconta l’uomo. «Proprio pochi giorni fa ho avuto un altro malore, mi vengono le crisi di panico, mi ha aiutato la mia famiglia, Dio, il mio avvocato». Una vicenda che, oltre a mettere a repentaglio la sue salute, gli ha fatto rischiare di perdere il posto di lavoro. Lui, che si alza anche alle 3 del mattino per spostarsi da Abbiategrasso, dove vive da anni, all’Ikea di Corsico, impegnato nei turni per le pulizie. Su questo fronte, almeno è arrivata una prima schiarita: il suo posto di lavoro, ora, è salvo, una volta che la cooperativa ha completato gli adempimenti burocratici per reintegrarlo in servizio.

23. Un trapianto del viso ROMA — Dopo l’entusiasmo iniziale, c’è un’atmosfera cupa al Sant’Andrea e nella comunità medica per il mancato successo del primo trapianto di viso in Italia. La donna 49enne operata sabato, lunedì ha accusato complicanze molto gravi. Una parte dei tessuti ricevuti in sostituzione dei suoi, deformati da una malattia degenerativa di origine genetica (neurofibromatosi di tipo 1), non hanno trovato il microcircolo sanguigno. In parole semplici, non hanno aderito al nuovo organismo per problemi che solo gli esami istologici chiariranno. Gira una parola che nessuno avrebbe voluto pronunciare, «fallimento». Annullata la conferenza stampa in programma lunedì con partecipazione di ministro, presidente di Regione e vertici dell’ateneo. La paziente dovrà essere operata di nuovo per ricevere i suoi stessi lembi muscolari come soluzione temporanea fino ad un secondo, eventuale trapianto. C’era molto ottimismo sull’esito dell’operazione eseguita dall’équipe del chirurgo plastico Fabio Santanelli di Pompeo. Qualcosa non è andato come si sperava. Sono eventi da mettere in conto in queste situazioni sperimentali. Nella casistica limitata dei trapianti di viso, una cinquantina nel mondo, si contano alcuni precedenti di reimpianto, l’ultimo in Francia su un uomo ribattezzato «dai tre volti».
24. La pista ciclabile Ed eccoli questi pochi chilometri di pista (due) totalmente a sbalzo sul lago: un’opera d’arte, un nastro largo 2,60 metri appeso al costone perpendicolare della montagna e che scorre a cinquanta metri sul livello dell’acqua. Quando la percorrete, a piedi o in bici, immaginatevi di imboccare una strada che potrebbe portare al paradiso: monti imponenti da un lato, barche a vela sullo sfondo dall’altro e una profonda vista sul lago che a ogni curva cambia aspetto e sembra sempre un quadro di Tintoretto. Sabato 14 luglio alle 17 la pista di Limone (in tutto il tratto di pista percorribile diventerà così di circa 12 chilometri) verrà aperta al pubblico e inaugurata alla presenza del ministro dei Trasporti Danilo Toninelli. Sarà una festa ma anche un monito. «Ho invitato tutti i sindaci del lago - continua il primo cittadino di Limone - e spero che guardando la nostra pista gli venga voglia di iniziare i lavori anche a loro. Qui ogni anno arrivano 1,3 milioni di turisti, soprattutto dal nord Europa, e la pista ciclabile è un’attrazione molto che potrebbe far impennare questo numero a beneficio di tutta l’economia del lago».
25. L'incidente con Clooney Brutto incidente, finito bene: solo lievi ferite, contusioni, un modesto trauma a un ginocchio, dimesso subito dall’ospedale, 20 giorni di cure. Salvo, quasi miracolato perché il bozzo sul parabrezza dell’auto dà l’idea della violenza dell’impatto. Clooney ha battuto la testa e l’ha protetto il casco. Viglino, disperato, balbetta: «Non ci ho visto niente avevo il sole sugli occhi, stavo per girare, ho superato di poco la linea...». Si siede su un muretto: «Sono sconvolto. Non me la sento di andare a lavorare». Alle 8 doveva imbarcarsi dal porticciolo di Costa Corallina diretto all’isola di Tavolara, per lavori di manutenzione a una villa. Pochi mi nuti dopo che l’ambulanza con l’attore in barella partiva per l’ospedale, l’uomo che l’ha travolto, sotto choc, ha chiesto un passaggio a un amico e si è chiuso in casa. «Mi hanno detto che era ricoverato, volevo andare a trovarlo ma quando stavo per uscire — ha detto al datore di lavoro — ho saputo che l’avevano già dimesso. Lo cercherò ancora e se vorrà ricevermi...». Sull’incidente si sa tutto dalle immagini che ha fissato il sistema di vigilanza del Consorzio Costa Corallina, che riprendono chi entra ed esce dal villaggio. Pochi minuti prima delle 8 si vede un camioncino fermarsi allo stop dell’incrocio che immette sull’Orientale Sarda, fra Porto San Paolo e Murta Maria.

26. Catherine Spaak «Quando sono venuta in Italia a lavorare nel cinema, ero convinta di trovare un ambiente aperto, libero, evoluto, come era in Francia, invece...». Catherine Spaak non ha un bel ricordo del nostro Paese alla metà degli anni Sessanta. Lo ha spiegato ieri ai microfoni di «I Lunatici», il format di Radio2, e adesso racc onta quegli anni al Corriere: «Avevo girato “La voglia matta” con la regia di Luciano Salce, poi avevo ottenuto altri ruoli nei film di Dino Risi, Florestano Vancini, Pasquale Festa Campanile, Mauro Bolognini... ma il ricordo più brutto riguarda “L’armata Brancaleone” di Mario Monicelli. Sul set c’ero io, la sarta, la segretaria di produzione, poche donne... il resto erano solo uomini ed erano tutti attori importanti... io all’epoca ero ancora, si può dire, un’esordiente, poco più di una ragazzina. Non parlavo ancora molto bene l’italiano e, quando arrivavo presto nel luogo delle riprese, cominciavano a prendermi in giro, mi apostrofavano in maniera pesante... alcuni erano scatenati: vero e proprio bullismo». Perché era donna e francese? «Perché ero donna. Facevano di tutto per mettermi in imbarazzo e io mi sentivo fuori luogo, angosciata, ho memoria di un periodo difficile, una lavorazione del film tutt’altro che piacevole».

Quel passaggio in auto da gassman Eppure la storia raccontata nel film, uscito nel 1966, era divertente: protagonisti Vittorio Gassman, nel ruolo di Brancaleone da Norcia; Gian Maria Volonté, Teofilatto dei Leonzi; Enrico Maria Salerno, Zenone. «Non si respirava una bella atmosfera, come avrebbe dovuto essere — sottolinea Catherine —. Vittorio accetta, ma dall’espressione intuivo che forse non era molto contento di dovermi accompagnare, forse era seccato... Io salgo nella vettura piuttosto imbarazzata, mi restringo nel sedile, mi faccio piccola piccola per non dargli il minimo fastidio». E lui? «Zitto tutto il tempo del tragitto, non una parola, non un commento, non un sorriso o una battuta per farmi rilassare... Muto». E allora? «Io che potevo fare? Restai altrettanto muta, terrorizzata da quell’atteggiamento freddo, distaccato, ostile... e finalmente arriviamo sotto casa mia, si ferma davanti al portone. Tiro un sospiro di sollievo, apro lo sportello, sguscio fuori e lo richiudo con molta cautela: solo in quel momento, probabilmente mosso a pietà, o rendendosi conto che non era stato gentile, mi disse con tono sommesso: “Scusami”»
28. A roma una ragazza sola dava scandalo Solo bullismo sui set italiani o anche molestie? «Anche molestie, non gravissime, per carità, diciamo che mi sono capitate cose sgradevoli, ma io ne ho parlato molto prima del #MeToo, almeno vent’anni fa... e certe mie colleghe dell’epocadissero: a noi non è mai successo niente, si vede che è successo solo a lei...». Dice Spaak che in Francia, a quel tempo, c’era più rispetto per le donne. «Una ragazza come me che, a 17 -18 anni andava all’estero a lavorare, era ovviamente normale. Da noi si sognava di raggiungere la maggiore età per conquistare la patente di guida e prendere in affitto un appartamentino dove vivere da sola. In Italia una giovane donna che andava a stare da sola era scandalosa: nel mio condominio a Roma mi guardavano malissimo! D’altronde io ho subìto molto peggio qui in Italia: ho perso l’affidamento di mia figlia perché nel ‘63 ero scappata con lei e venni arrestata dai carabinieri. La bambina fu affidata alla nonna paterna e lo sa qual era la motivazione del giudice?». Quale? «Essendo la madre un’attrice, quindi di dubbia moralità, non può tenere con sé labambina. In altri termini, fare l’attrice equivaleva a fare la prostituta».
29. Gli affari crescono Piccole. A volte piccolissime. Molto in gamba. Dentro le 17mila aziende manifatturiere attive nei distretti, 1632 sono decollate negli ultimi 7 anni. L’ufficio studi di banca Intesa Sanpaolo le monitora dal 2012 ed emerge che abbiamo 588 «eccellenze» nel settore metalmeccanico, 403 nella moda, 226 nell’agroalimentare, 167 nelle materie plastiche, 163 nei mobili a arredamento, 85 in altri settori. Domanda: cosa hanno fatto queste imprese per crescere costantemente più della media? Partiamo da tre storie esemplari.

30. Innovazione del prodotto L’azienda familiare Caffè Borbone, fondata da Massimo Renda, nel 2011 si mette in gioco: abbandona la gestione delle macchinette da ristorazione aziendali e si butta nel business del caffè monodose (cialde e capsule). Poi brevetta le capsule compatibili con le macchinette dei grandi marchi e oggi è leader italiano nelle cialde, dove ha ottenuto anche la certificazione per quelle interamente compostabili. In un mercato che cresce del 15% l’anno il gruppo di Caivano (Napoli) arriva al 30%. In sette anni il fatturato è passato da 19 milioni a 130, con un margine lordo del 26%, mentre i dipendenti sono saliti da 10 a 160. Renda ha da poco ceduto il 60% a Italmobiliare della famiglia Pesenti. Un socio forte con cui potenziare l’azienda e sviluppare altri progetti.
31. Il software prima di tutto Un socio forte, il fondo di private equity NB Renaissance (85% del capitale), è stata la scelta anche di Comelz (Vigevano), fondata dalla famiglia Zorzolo (15%). Produce da 75 anni macchine per il taglio delle pelli, con una attenzione storica all’innovazione tecnologica: è stata pioniera nell’introduzione degli impianti a controllo numerico negli anni Sessanta. Oggi è forse la prima del suo genere che si è comprata una software house, la toscana Develer. Negli ultimi otto anni ha registrato 19 brevetti, l’export vale il 75%, mentre il fatturato è lievitato dai 23 milioni del 2011 agli attuali 61.
32. Ampliare il raggio di azione A Pesaro la Hsd produce motori «intelligenti» in grado di dare informazioni in tempo reale sulla sicurezza e sulla produttività. Nata nel gruppo Biesse e specializzata nel settore della lavorazione del legno, ha ampliato il raggio di azione a vetro e metallo. Per esempio la scocca di molti cellulari viene tagliata da una macchina con dentro un motore Hsd. Oggi è in grado di stare in piedi da sola ed esporta l’80% del prodotto, gran parte verso l’Asia. L’azienda — che tra il 2011 e il 2017 è passata da 46 a 88 milioni di fatturato, da 133 a 241 dipendenti — nel 2018 ha tenuto bene, ma ha sofferto le guerre commerciali tra Cina e Stati Uniti, e ha dovuto accantonare il progetto di quotazione in Piazza Affari.
33. I parametri per scovare i migliori Quali sono stati i criteri utilizzati per individuare i migliori? Stefania Trenti, che ha curato il monitoraggio per Intesa Sanpaolo spiega: «Oltre ai leader storici del Made in Italy, c’è un gruppo di potenziali trascinatori che emerge dai distretti, le regioni produttive del Paese dove si afferma la specializzazione di un certo tipo di attività, e una connessione virtuosa tra le aziende che fanno rete sul territorio». Lo studio ha preso in considerazione le aziende con un fatturato di almeno 400 mila euro e le ha osservate nel tempo. Gli ultras della crescita rappresentano il 9% delle società «distrettuali». Nel periodo considerato hanno avuto un aumento del fatturato superiore al 15% e hanno assunto personale. Il margine lordo è migliorato almeno del 5-8%. Significativo anche il «certificato di buona salute», cioè il rapporto tra patrimonio netto e passività, superiore al 10%. Pochi i debiti e se ci sono vengono compensati da attivi robusti. Gli altri criteri di scelta sono qualitativi, a partire dai brevetti: 103 ogni 100 imprese, mentre in media 100 aziende non eccellenti ne hanno appena 38. Il 53% dei campioni vende all’estero contro il 33% della media nazionale. In sostanza chi ha avuto il coraggio di ammodernarsi è stato premiato dai risultati.
34. I distretti-traino Il distretto con più eccellenze è quello dei metalli di Brescia che ne conta 123, seguito dalla metalmeccanica di Lecco (94) e dalle materie plastiche tra Treviso, Vicenza e Padova (81). Il Sud spicca con un solo distretto: quello barese della meccatronica. I «campioni» negli ultimi mesi hanno lavorato con risultati buoni in un quadro dove le performance medie del Paese e dell’Europa sono state meno brillanti, sia sul fronte della produzione industriale che dell’export. Il settore manifatturiero infatti è cresciuto nel 2018 dell’1,7%, contro uno 0,9% del Pil italiano. L’Economia del Corriere della Sera insieme a Italypost presenterà nei prossimi mesi una nuova classifica di 500 campioni di crescita dal 2010 con un fatturato compreso tra 20 e 120 milioni di euro, allargando poi anche ai top 100 di taglia superiore (120-500 milioni). Due analisi con parametri diversi, che portano a conclusioni simili.

35. Il confronto con la Germania L’Italia che ce la fa è in grado persino di battere la Germania se si confrontano la propensione all’export e la vocazione manifatturiera dei distretti di Vicenza o Reggio Emilia con quella del Baden-Wurttenberg, uno dei lander più ricchi. La varietà del Made in Italy venduto nel mondo è impressionante, il nostro indice di diversificazione dei prodotti esportati è pari a 279,4, quasi 150 punti più della Cina. Eppure il confronto della produttività nazionale dal 1995 ad oggi con quello tedesco è impietoso: il nostro Pil per ora lavorata è cresciuto solo dello 0,4% medio annuo, quello tedesco ha marciato dell’1,6%. In altre parole: le nostre aziende migliori non hanno rivali, le altre arrancano.
36. Il fisco, la burocrazia, le regole Le ragioni per cui le imprese non crescono sono sempre le stesse da decenni: burocrazia perversa, troppe tasse, pochi incentivi per gli investimenti, in un contesto generale che non agevola le acquisizioni e la raccolta di risorse finanziarie. Infatti l’Italia è solo al 51esimo posto della classifica 2019 Ease of Doing Business della World Bank, un termometro che misura la facilità di svolgere attività economica in 189 Paesi. Nell’ultima manovra c’è attenzione alle piccole imprese con la flat tax, la mini-ires al 15% per chi accantona/investe/assume, oltre all’iperammortamento per chi fa investimenti tecnologici inferiori a 2,5 milioni. Si è scelto invece di cancellare l’Ace, l’incentivo fiscale che premiava il reinvestimento degli utili in azienda, spingendole ad «irrobustire» il patrimonio. Ce ne sarebbe stato ancora bisogno, visto che per il 2019 si prevede un Pil in ulteriore calo e si parla di recessione tecnica. Anche le «eccellenze», che in questi anni sono riuscite a creare occupazione, potrebbero trovarsi in difficoltà.
37. Gabriel Gabriel, piegato sul suo gomito, guardò per alcuni momenti senza risentimento ai sui arruffati capelli e alla bocca semiaperta, ascoltando il suo respiro profondo. 38. Il vecchio Era un vecchio che pescava da solo su una barca a vela nella Corrente del Golfo ed erano ottantaquattro giorni ormai che non prendeva un pesce. Nei primi quaranta giorni lo aveva accompagnato un ragazzo, ma dopo quaranta giorni passati senza che prendesse neanche un pesce, i genitori del ragazzo gli avevano detto che il vecchio ormai era decisamente e definitivamente salao, che è la peggior forma di sfortuna, e il ragazzo li aveva ubbiditi andando in un'altra barca che prese tre bei pesci nella prima settimana. Era triste per il ragazzo veder arrivare ogni giorno il vecchio con la barca vuota e scendeva sempre ad aiutarlo a trasportare o le lenze addugliate o la gaffa1 e la fiocina e la vela serrata all'albero. La vela era rattoppata con sacchi da farina e quand'era serrata pareva la bandiera di una sconfitta perenne.

39. Parlare forte Non ricordava quando avesse incominciato a parlar forte da solo. In passato quand'era solo cantava, e a volte cantava la notte quando era solo al timone nel suo turno sulle barche da tartaruga o sui barconi a vela da pesca. Probabilmente aveva incominciato a parlar forte da solo quando il ragazzo lo aveva lasciato. Ma non ricordava. Quando pescavano insieme, lui e il ragazzo, di solito parlavano soltanto quand'era necessario. Parlavano di notte o quando erano bloccati dalle burrasche. Era considerata una virtù non parlare se non in caso di necessità, sul mare, e il vecchio l'aveva considerata tale e l'aveva rispettata. Ma ora diceva spesso ad alta voce i suoi pensieri poiché non vi era nessuno che potesse esserne disturbato.
40.Omicidio «Non pensavo di averlo ucciso». Alla festa del paese, a Veniano, nel Comasco, con moglie e figli, un operaio di 47 anni, bagnato da qualche schizzo d’acqua da un ragazzo di 25 anni che stava bevendo alla fontana, ha preso un coltello a serramanico che teneva in tasca e ha ferito a morte il giovane. È stato arrestato poche ore dopo dai carabinieri, a casa, dove aveva riaccompagnato la famiglia. Aveva i vestiti sporchi di sangue, ha consegnato l’arma e ha ammesso le sue responsabilità. L’accusa, per Gabriele Luraschi, operaio in un’azienda serigrafica di Appiano Gentile è di omicidio volontario aggravato dai futili motivi e dalla presenza di un minore, il figlio 11enne dell’uomo arrestato, che era accanto al papà quando ha impugnato il coltello e colpito a morte Hans Junior Krupe, 25 anni, corriere dell’Ups nato a Como e residente a Veniano con il papà, olandese, e la mamma, spagnola.
41. Sulla base del patrimonio netto della H14, che è un valore solo indicativo della ricchezza, le quote di Barbara, Eleonora e Luigi valgono circa 95 milioni ciascuna. La holding di Pier Silvio ha un patrimonio netto di 143 milioni e quella di Marina di 57,5.

Friends Meanwhile, spurred on by Martina’s contagious enthusiasm, friends and relatives offered to help out with the couple’s project. “My father was right behind me from the outset, but my mother found it hard to accept that I could throw away my qualifications and teaching job. It was also a shock for Andrea’s parents, who didn’t expect him to take such a risk. But now everyone lends a hand and we’re ready to go: me in the kitchen with a friend, Andrea dealing with the guests. We’ll have 24 beds and about 60 covers in the restaurant, where we offer traditional food in a relaxed and friendly environment.” The breath -taking views, unspoilt natural surroundings and the couple’s boundless enthusiasm make for a heady co mbination. “In life you have to create your own opportunities, put yourself to the test. If things don’t work out, you can’t blame yourself. This is the message we would like to give our children. But for now we just want to enjoy our refuge.”

5. The show The aim of rebuilding Pompeii’s ancient amphitheatre in tuff and reinforced concrete was to allow a show to be performed there. A show with lights and a stage set, violins and an orchestra. But is this the way to “make the most” of a world treasure? By relegating concerns for its protection to second place? Not according to Italy’s Court of Auditors, whose ruling contains harsh criticism of Pompeii’s former commissioner Marcello Fiori, appointed some years ago by Sandro Bondi and the Berlusconi governmen t to “relaunch” the archaeological site. The court also ordered him to pay damages of €400,000. Who knows if this will be enough to convince those who manage similar sites to finally stop giving priority to making money through shows rather than to safeguarding Italy’s vast historical heritage.
6.The Colosseum The Colosseum was the most visited monument last Sunday, with 31,634 people taking advantage of free admission to admire the arena where gladiators and wild beasts once fought for the entertainment o f emperors and immense crowds of spectators. A visit to the Flavian Amphitheatre – which even 2,000 years after its construction, still guards so many secrets – now also offers breathtaking views over ancient Rome and our country’s history. Thanks to the €25m of funding provided by Diego Della Valle’s Tod’s, the recently restored amphitheatre will attract even more tourists from all over the world. The monument, included among the Seven Wonders of the World, already boasts a considerable number of visitors, with 6.4 million in 2016 (like the British Museum in London), almost twice those of Pompeii (3.3 million) and three times those of the Uffizi (2 million). The only place in Italy with more visitors (estimated at just under 7.4 million) is the Pantheon, where entrance is, at least for now, free. This may however change in January next year, when visitors will have to start paying €3 for a ticket.
7. Daniele De Rossi In the last match of the season, at the Olimpico against Parma, Daniele De Rossi’s career o n the pitch with Roma will come to an end, but the midfielder who played 615 games and scored 63 goals is not yet ready to hang up his boots. For years he was known as “Captain Future”, when the captain’s band was worn by his great friend and big brother figure Francesco Totti, yet unlike Totti, he won’t be able to play out his whole career with the same club. De Rossi, who wants to carry on playing, will not be given a year’s extension to his contract, as he hoped, and will almost certainly move to the United States with his family.
8.Cambridge Analytica The Cambridge Analytica scandal raised privacy issues and, even more seriously, highlighted the risk of attacks on the founding principles of democracy. Now that the link between traditional media and voters has weakened, the creation of fake news by hard-to-identify powers, and artificially generated freak waves of “consensus”, can alter the decision-making process at the heart of democracy: free elections. In fact, there are no free elections without awareness on the part of the electorate. So far, voters have been informed by a variegated media that has always represented the “fourth power”, as a guarantee of democracy. What is fundamental is not only the protection of “privacy”, but more generally the pr otection of the integrity of the “person” in the digital dimension. In June 2017, a study conducted by the US National Bureau of Economic Research showed that although people may say they consider privacy to be a fundamental value, even for small incentives (such as a free pizza), they are willing to hand over all kinds of personal data in order to access a service, especially to download an app, whether offering music and games or entertainment and pop. Nor should we forget that artificial intelligence can now be developed independently of moral conscience.

9. Protected This means that not only taxation, political democracy or the protection of personal data are involved, but much more. For example, constitutional assets such as savings, since traditional banks are weighed down by heavy regulatory burdens, making it hard for them to compete with new kinds of unregulated operators. All of these values must and can be protected by rules based on the liberal idea of the golden mean, of a “juste-milieu” that accompanies the fourth industrial revolution, not suffocating it but guiding it, in order to avoid imbalances to the detriment of the public interest. For once, instead of insisting on regulating as little as possible, the European Commission has seriously embarked on the right path, not only by proposing a web tax, but also with proposed regulations to guarantee the transparency of platforms to the benefit of the small and medium enterprises that use them.
10. Pippo Baudo On my birth certificate I was registered with the somewhat pompous name of Giuseppe Raimondo Vittorio, but right from the start, everyone called me Pippo”. This is how the story of Pippo Baudo’s life begins, as told in “Ecco a voi: Pippo Baudo, una storia italiana” (published by Solferino), written with Paolo Conti. We share his experience of the liberation of Sicily in World War II, his first performances on the stage of the parish hall, and his journey to Trieste on the day the city once more became part of Italy. Then, of course, his discovery of TV, the studios, and cameramen “wearing white gloves like surgeons”. “It was nothing short of a vocation. I said to myself: ‘I want to be there, on television, to work for this brand new, bewitching medium. This is the future. This is where everything will be happening from now on’.”
11. Armstrong at Sanremo It was 1968, the Sanremo music festival, the year before the edition in which Tenco, one of the contestants, committed suicide, and Italian state broadcaster RAI had decided to change everything, presenter included, with Pippo taking over from Mike Bongiorno. The guests included Paul Anka, Dionne Warwick, Roberto Carlos and Louis Armstrong. “A senior RAI executive said to me: ‘Baudo, do you realize that your whole career is at stake this evening?’. I filled my pockets with lucky charms.” It all went smoothly, apart from the incident with Armstrong. To convince the US artist to come, they had told him he would be paying tribute to the Italian public, not that he would be taking part in a contest. Armstrong performed his song, then pulled out his trumpet and started to improvise, convinced he was there to give a show. “Ravera, the festival organizer, shouted to me from the wings: ‘Pippo, take that trumpet away from him!’. I plucked up courage and grabbed a handkerchief, knowing that Armstrong used to dry the sweat off his face between songs. I went up to him, dried his face and led him off. He was far from happy about it, but I consoled myself with the thought that I would probably never meet him again. Three days later I bumped into him at the Fiera di Milano theatre. He glared at me and shouted: ‘Fuck you!’.”
12. Mike Bongiorno “The press enjoyed stirring up rivalry. Obviously it was false; we were friends and had a high opinion of each other. But we played along. When Mike did outside broadcasts, and knew that I would be coming to the same town myself a few days later, he always said: ‘Make sure that when Pippo Baudo arrives, you tell him I really slagged him off’. And I did the same. But when I started working for Fininvest, he was the only one who proved to be my friend.”
13. Beppe Grillo “One evening in 1977, while I was having dinner, the owner of the club told me that a Genoese comedian would be performing later. Intrigued, I asked a good-looking young man near the stairs what time the show would began. He replied: “If you come down, we can start straight away”. It was Beppe Grillo. I sat down, and realized I was the only spectator. I thought the lad would call the show off, but he asked me to stay seated, since I would be representing all the absentees. It was an unforgettable evening, during which I was forced to laugh, applaud, and ask for an encore. I was completely in Grillo’s hands. I had never seen such talent.”

14. Franco and Ciccio They were constantly arguing. They were tremendously successful, but both – like any comic actor – dreamed of a dramatic role that would prove their worth. Ciccio had his great opportunity with Fellini in Amarcord, and Franco was impatient for his own chance. And it seemed to have arrived when the producer Cristaldi called him for The Name of the Rose. But the director, Jean-Jacques Annaud, thought that a comic actor’s name on the film poster would “be demeaning” to the more famous colleagues involved in the production. Baudo recounts that: “It was really painful for Franco. I met him one evening in front of my house; he told me the story and cried like a child. He had lost the war, never officially declared, with Ciccio.”
15. Andreotti The former prime minister crops up a number of times in the book. Both when he was in power – the story of the Fiuggi award is amazing: Gorbachev received an empty envelope, from which the 500 million lire check had disappeared, never to be found – and when he had fallen into disgrace. “He once asked me in a sad voice if I had seen Paolo Sorrentino’s film “Il Divo”, in which he was played by Toni Servillo. I said I had. Andreotti sorrowfully commented: ‘They have ruined me. My wife has clammed up in total silence, she really worries me.’ I replied: ‘This is not the first time you have been the butt of jokes and imitations, such as those by Noschese or Lionello in the Bagaglino variety show. The Sorrentino film is clearly a farce, with Servillo wearing a mask as if he were taking part in the Carnival of Viareggio, where a caricature of Andreotti has appeared various times on the floats. Just laugh about it; it will blow over, as it always does ...’ He looked at me, and smiled with immense bitterness, concluding: ‘No, this time is different’.”
16. Villa and Berlinguer The singer Claudio Villa was a communist. He had asked Baudo and Berlinguer to be best men at his wedding. Berlinguer, who was secretary of the Italian Communist Party (PCI), said that he could not come to the ceremony, but would join the bride and groom at the restaurant. Then he got someone to call the restaurant to say that political commitments prevented him from coming. Villa flew into a rage, smashed the wedding cake with his fist, and announced that from that moment on he was no longer a communist. His sympathies subsequently shifted towards Marco Pannella’s Radical Party. But one day the Christian Democrat politician Clemente Mastella asked Baudo to bring Claudio Villa back to Sanremo. “What do you care, isn’t he a radical?”, Baudo asked. “He was, but now he’s one of us; he’s become a Christian Democrat ...”
17. Berlusconi After falling out with RAI chairman Enrico Manca, Baudo accepted Berlusconi’s offer to move to his media group Fininvest, but met with a frosty reception. “I went to Berlusconi’s villa at Arcore to clarify the situation. Silvio’s mother was there to greet me and said she was a big fan of mine...” Baudo proposed ending the contract. “After thinking long and hard, Berlusconi told me I would have to pay a penalty: ‘You own a palazzo on Rome’s Aventine hill, opposite our offices’. This was true; I had bought the building with my savings, and thought it was a good investment for the future. It was a four-storey building with an attic, and terrace with a view over the whole of Rome. I didn’t understand why he had mentioned it, but Berlusconi immediately explained. ‘As your penalty, and also to give an example to my other employees, you give me the building and also the bar next door’. I asked for time to think it over, but Silvio continued: ‘The solicitor is in the next room; he has already drawn up the agreement’. The door opened, the solicitor came in, and like an automaton, I signed. In the space of a few minutes I had lost my job and my investmen ts.”
18. Biagio Agnes “Every 2 November, RAI’s director general Biagio Agnes went without fail to Serino, his home town, to lay flowers on the family tomb. That year he was approached by an elderly local woman, who asked him: ‘Are you Biagio Agnes? The one in charge of television? You have to bring back Pippo Baudo.’ ‘And if I don’t?’. ‘You’ll die’. Biagio, who was very superstitious, was perturbed by the incident. Back in Rome he immediately called me: ‘Pippo, do you have any relatives in Serino?’. I replied that I didn’t even know where it was. The answer reassured him. I was offered a new contract with RAI.”

19. A thousand faces There’s a whole lot more in the book, such as Sandra Mondaini tipsy on sangria, a sad, drunk Liza Minnelli, and Raffaella Carrà’s refusal to take on a programme so as not to “betray” the TV presenter Corrado. Not to mention Sharon Stone turning up naked in front of Pippo in a hotel room, Vittorio Gassman breaking his back on live TV and sending him to hospital, and Heather Parisi, dancing on the desk of a RAI executive in a bid to get hired.
20. 50% increase The reason is fairly simple: Lisbon offers tax-free benefits for Europe’s pensioners, spread over a period of ten years (provided they stay there at least six months and one day a year), effectively bringing taxation on pension payments down to zero. The measure is set to last, as things stand, until the end of 2019, unless extended by the Portuguese government. In the meantime, however, thousands are taking advantage of it: “2017 saw a 50% increase in Italians living here, and many of them were pensioners,” explained Matteo Gabellieri, who has lived much of his life in Portugal. He works as an architect and tour guide (he has his own website, ilmioportogallo), and also for Nuova Vita, an organization based in Veneto that helps these “migrants” move to and settle in at their new destination: “There are all kinds of people: from couples to singles who want to try something new. But economic incentives certainly play a part.”
21. The sprightly Montanari A case in point is the sprightly Dino Montanari, 81, from Bondeno, Ferrara, twice married (his second wife, from Moldavia, is here with him) and a life travelling around the world as a master welder, who chose Caparica as his retirement home. “Well, thanks to these incentives, I have an extra €800 a month, which gets you a long way here in Portugal. What’s more, in Italy I got bored, whereas here there is always lovely weather, and the people are really friendly. And yes, everything is cheap.” We need merely note that his 80- square-metre apartment has a monthly rent of €400, and when he goes down to the bar, which looks just like any Italian equivalent in the provinces, “a coffee costs 60 cents, and if I don’t feel like cooking, I ca n get a steak sandwich, what they call a ‘prego’ here, for €3.” In short, there’s a very high quality of life for people who would have to get by the best they could in Italy: “In a quarter of an hour I can be on the beach, and sooner or later I’ll also learn to surf,” Dino jokes, but you get the feeling he actually might. Because there will always be time to grow old later.
22. An innocent man More than the days spent in a cell as an innocent man, and more than the mistake that had him branded as a delinquent, despite never having had any problems with the law, what hurt most was something else: “Not being believed by anyone”. Ahmed Abou Elhammd Abbas Ahmed, a 58-year-old Italian of Egyptian origin with a clean record, was almost in tears as he recounted his experience. He was arrested on 18 January, unjustly accused of eight robberies against people as they took money from cash machines.
For eight days he was locked up in prison because of his resemblance to the real robber, who was later identified by investigators, according to reports. State prosecutors have now asked for charges against him to be dropped, but the aftereffects of the mistaken identity remain evident. “They treated me like a criminal, without even giving me the chance to explain that I had nothing to do with the robberies,” he said. “Just a few days ago I had another panic attack. I have been helped by my family, God, and my lawyer.” In addition to jeopardizing his health, the false charges almost cost him his job. He gets up at 3.0 0 am to travel from Abbiategrasso, where he has lived for years, to Ikea in Corsico, where he works shifts as a cleaner. On this front at least, things have been cleared up: his job is now safe, and once the cooperative has completed the paperwork, he will be reinstated.

23. Face transplant ROME – After the initial enthusiasm, there is a grim atmosphere at Sant’Andrea hospital and in the medical community over the failure of the first face transplant in Italy. The 49-year-old woman who underwent surgery on Saturday began to show extremely serious complications on Monday. Some of the tissues transplanted to replace her face, which was deformed by a degenerative disease of genetic origin (neurofibromatosis type 1), failed to integrated with the microcirculatory system. In simple terms, they did not become attached to the new organism due to problems that only histological tests will be able to clarify. Everyone is using a word that no one wanted to hear: “failure”. The press conference scheduled for Monday with the participation of the health minister, the regional governor and the university hospital’s top management was cancelled. The patient must be operated on again and have parts of her own muscle grafted on as a temporary solution, pending possible further transplant surgery. There was widespread optimism over the outcome of the operation carried out by the team of plastic surgeon Fabio Santanelli di Pompeo, but something clearly failed to go according to plan. The possibility of such events should alway s be taken into account in what still remains an experimental procedure. In the limited numbers of face transplants performed (about fifty in the world), there are some precedents of re-transplants, the most recent in France on a patient christened “the man with three faces”.
24. The bicycle path And so now we have a two-kilometre cycle path suspended over the lake: a 2.6-metre wide work of art hanging from the side of the mountain 50 metres above the water. Walkers and cyclists may well imagine that they are on a road to paradise: imposing mountains on one side, yachts in the background on the other, and a view of the lake that changes at every turn yet always resembles a painting by Tintoretto. On Saturday 14 July at 5pm the Limone stretch of the cycle path will be officially opened to the public by transport minister Danilo Toninelli, taking the total length of the path to about 12 kilometres. It will be a celebration but will also serve as a reminder. “I have invited all the mayors of the lakeside towns, ” continued the mayor of Limone, “and I hope that looking at our track will inspire them to start work too. Every year 1.3 million tourists come here, especially from northern Europe, and the cycle path is an attraction that could boost their numbers for the benefit of the whole local economy”.
25. Clooney crash It was a nasty accident, but with a happy ending for the star, who got away with just a few grazes and bruises, and a minor injury to one knee. He was discharged immediately from hospital, and is e xpected to make a complete recovery in 20 days. Safe and sound, then, in a lucky escape that has something of the miraculous about it, especially if we look at the dent in the windscreen, which gives an idea of the violence of the impact. Clooney hit his head, but was protected by his helmet. Viglino, visibly in shock, stuttered: “I didn’t see anything, I had the sun in my eyes, I was about to turn, and had just crossed into the oncoming lane ...” He sat down on a wall: “I’m distraught. I don’t feel like going to work.” At 8 o’clock he was supposed to catch ferry from the small port of Costa Corallina to the island of Tavolara, for maintenance work on a villa. A few minutes after the ambulance with the actor on a stretcher left for the hospital, the man who had collided with him, still in shock, asked for a lift from a friend and shut himself up at home. “They told me he was in hospital, and I wanted to go and visit him but when I was about to leave the house,” he told his employer, “I was told he had already been discharged. I’ll try again and if he wants to see me...” We know exactly how the accident happened from the images provided by surveillance cameras at Costa Corallina, which film those entering and leaving the village. A few minutes before 8 o’clock a lorry can be seen stopping at the junction with the Orientale Sarda main road, linking Porto San Paolo and Murta Maria.

26. Catherine Spaak “When I came to Italy to work in cinema, I was convinced I would find an open-minded, free-thinking, modern environment, like in France, but instead ...”. Catherine Spaak does not have good memories of Italy in the mid-sixties. She recounted her experiences yesterday on the Radio2 programme “I Lunatici”, and then spoke to us at the Corriere: “I had been filming ‘Crazy Desire’ directed by Luciano Salce, and was then offered other roles in films by Dino Risi, Florestano Vancini, Pasquale Festa Campanile, and Mauro Bolognini ... but my worst memories regard ‘The Incredible Army of Brancaleone’ by Mario Monicelli. On the set there was me, the seamstress, the production secretary, just a few women ... the rest were all men and they were all important actors ... at the time I was still basically a newcomer, little more than a girl. I didn’t speak Italian very well back then, and when I arrived early on set, they started to make fun of me, and some really laid into me... went too far: nothing short of bullying”. Because you were a woman and French? “Because I was a woman. They did everything they could to embarrass me, and I felt out of place, it was horrible; I remember it was a difficult time, and working on the film was anything but pleasant.
27. Lift from Gassman Yet the story told in the film, released in 1966, was fun, with leading roles played by Vittorio Gassman (Brancaleone da Norcia); Gian Maria Volonté (Teofilatto dei Leonzi; and Enrico Maria Salerno (Zenone). “There wasn’t the enjoyable atmosphere there should have been,” Catherine emphasized. And I remember something else that happened: one evening, at the end of filming, the car that was supposed to take me back home didn’t turn up. It was late and Gassman was asked to give me a lift, since he had a car. Vittorio accepted, but from his expression I sensed that he wasn’t very happy about having to accompany me, maybe he was annoyed ... I got in the car rather embarrassed, and shrank into the seat, trying to make myself as small as I could so as not to disturb him. And what did he do? “He remained silent for the whole of the journey, without speaking: not a comment, a smile or a joke to make me feel at ease... Not a sound.” What about you? “What could I do? I remained silent too, terrified by his cold, detached, hostile attitude ... until finally we arrived at my house, and he pulled up in front of the door. I breathed a sigh of relief, opened the door, slipped out and closed it with great care; only then, perhaps moved to pity, or realizing that he had been unkind, did he say quietly: ‘Sorry’”.
28. “In Rome, it was scandalous for a girl to live on her own” Was there only bullying on Italian film sets or was there sexual harassment too? “There was harassment too, although nothing really serious, absolutely not, but let’s just say that some unpleasant things happened to me. I talked about it long before the #MeToo movement, at least twenty years ago ... and some of my colleagues at the time said that nothing had ever happened to them, I was evidently the only one ...” Spaak said that in France, at the time, there was more respect for women. “It was completely normal f or a girl like me, at 17 or 18 to go and work abroad. We dreamed of turning 18 so that we could get a driving licence and rent a small apartment to live in alone. In Italy, it was a scandal for a young woman to live on her own: in my apartment block in Rome they used to give me really dirty looks! But I have suffered much worse here in Italy: I lost custody of my daughter because in 1963 I had run away with her and was arrested by the carabinieri. She was entrusted to her paternal grandmother, and do you now what reason the judge gave?” What? “Since the mother is an actress, and therefore of dubious morals, she cannot keep the child with her. In other words, being an actress was tantamount to being a prostitute.”
29. Business is booming They’re small. Sometimes very small. But very capable. Of the 17,000 manufacturing companies operating in Italy’s industrial districts, 1,632 have boomed in the last seven years. The research department of the Intesa Sanpaolo bank has been monitoring them since 2012, and it has emerged that there are 588 cases of “excellence” in the engineering sector, 403 in fashion, 226 in food, 167 in plastics, 163 in furniture, and 85 in other sectors. The question is: what have these companies done to grow steadily above the average? Let’s start with three exemplary stories.

30. Product innovation In 2011, the Caffè Borbone family company, founded by Massimo Renda, made a daring move, abandoning the management of coffee machines for corporate catering and venturing into single-portion coffee (pods and capsules). The company then patented capsules compatible with the big brand coffee machines, as well as obtaining certification for fully compostable versions, and today leads coffee pod production in Italy. In a market that grows by 15% per year, the group from Caivano near Naples has seen growth of 30%. In seven years, turnover has risen from €19 million to €130 million, with profits before tax of 26%, while its employees have gone up from 10 to 160. Renda has just sold a 60% stake to Ita lmobiliare, owned by the Pesenti family, a strong partner that will make it possible to strengthen the company and develop other projects.
31. Software first of all The choice of a strong partner, in this case the NB Renaissance private equity fund (holding 85% of the capital), was also the approach taken by Comelz from Vigevano, founded by the Zorzolo family, who hold 15%. It has been producing leather cutting machines for 75 years, and has always focused on technological innovation, pioneering the introduction of numerical control systems in the 1960s. Today it is perhaps the first of its kind to buy a software house, Develer from Tuscany. In the last eight years, 19 patents have been registered, exports account for 75%, and turnover has risen from €23 million in 2011 to the current €61 million.
32. Widening the range In Pesaro, Hsd produces “intelligent” motors capable of providing real-time information on safety and productivity. It started out as part of the Biesse group and specialized in woodworking, but has now extended its range to glass and metal. For example, the body of many mobile phones is cut by a machine containing an Hsd motor. Today it is able to stand on its own two feet, and exports 80% of its production, mostly to Asia. The company – whose turnover rose from €46 million to €88 million between 2011 and 2017, with staff increases from 133 to 241 – held up well in 2018, but suffered as a result of the trade wars between China and the United States, and had to shelve plans to become listed on the Italian stock exchange.
33. Parameters used to find the best What criteria were used to identify the best? Stefania Trenti, who oversaw the monitoring process for Intesa Sanpaolo, explained: “In addition to the historic leaders of Italian industry, there is a group of potential drivers emerging from our districts, the productive regions of the country where we find specializations in certain sectors, and virtuous relationships among companies, creating local networks.” The study took into consideration companies with a turnover of at least €400,000 and observed them over time. Those showing exceptional growth represented 9% of companies in Italy’s industrial districts. During the period considered they achieved rises in turnover of over 15% and created new jobs. Their profits before tax were up by at least 5-8%. Their “state of good health” was also significant, i.e. the ratio between net assets and liabilities, at over 10%. They had few debts, and these were compensated for by solid assets. The other selection criteria were qualitative, starting with patents: 103 for every 100 companies, while the average figure is just 38 per 100. Among the top performers, 53% exported their products, against a national average of 33%. Basically, those who had the courage to modernize reaped benefits.

34. Driving districts The district with the highest number of “excellent” companies is that of the metallurgy sector in the Brescia area, with 123, followed by engineering in Lecco (94) and plastics in Treviso, Vicenza and Padua (81). The South boasts only one noteworthy district: that of mechatronics in the Bari area. In recent months, the “champions” have achieved good results in a context of unimpressive average performance in Italy and Europe as a whole, both in terms of industrial production and exports. In fact, the manufacturing sector grew by 1.7% in 2018, compared to 0.9% growth of Italy’s GDP. In the next few months the “Economia” supplement of Corriere della Sera will present with Italypost a new list of the 500 companies with a turnover of between €20 million and €120 million showing highest growth since 2010, and then of the top 100 larger companies (€120-500 million). The two analyses used different parameters, but led to similar conclusions.

Questa volta l'occasione è arrivata nel corso del suo discorso ad Harvard, dove ha ricevuto la laurea, dopo che era stato cacciato dall'università per aver creato il predecessore di Facebook, facemash. Come aveva già fatto qualche mese fa con il Facebook manifesto, Zuckerberg ha parlato di una società globale, in cui la lotta non è tra nazioni ma tra diverse idee.
8. ROMA - "Al ministero mi sto facendo preparare un dossier sulla questione rom in Italia, perché dopo Roberto Maroni non si è fatto più nulla, ed è il caos". Lo ha detto il ministro dell'Interno, Matteo Salvini, leader della Lega, parlando a TeleLombardia. Salvini ha parlato di "una ricognizione sui rom in Italia per vedere chi, come, quanti sono", ossia "rifacendo quello che fu definito il censimento". Con un rapporto che disegna i contorni sfrangiati della lotta al fumo nel mondo. Perché è vero che, in termini percentuali, i fumatori sono calati - del 28% gli uomini e del 34% le donne - tra il 1990 a il 2015. Ancora una volta il suo discorso ha fatto aumentare le voci di un suo possibile interessamento a lla politica, forse anche a una possibile candidatura a presidente degli Stati Uniti: più volte Zuckerberg ha sostenuto politiche molto specifiche come il reddito di cittadinanza, sanità a basso prezzo per tutti. Tra i punti toccati ci sono anche la riforma della giustizia penale, del sistema scolastico e infine una redistribuzione della ricchezza. La svolta politica di zuckerberg è arrivata in concomitanza con le ultime presidenziali e con la vittoria di donald trump. Molti osservatori hanno duramente attaccato facebook per aver permesso alle notizie false di diffondersi, creando terreno fertile per l'elezione di Trump. Adesso il colosso sta cercando di correre ai ripari, finanziando progetti di fact checking in tutto il mondo.
14. "Ciao cara, mando il drone a fare la spesa". L'era dei carrelli del supermercato stracolmi di frutta e detersivi, dei pacchi d'acqua minerale pesanti come piombo trascinati su per le scale e delle corse last minute per fare le compere prima dell'orario di chiusura è arrivata al capolinea. 19. L'arte non sta più imprigionata nei musei, ma vaga libera per le strade delle città. Un'arte fatta di disegni e graffiti, un'arte urbana che cambia colore al cemento e delinea nuove prospettive. Protagonista assoluta è la street art, che si insinua nelle trame dell'arte contemporanea. Perché non è solo una corrente artistica nuova, nata agli inizi del 2000, ma è soprattutto il racconto di una generazione: giovani artisti che lasciano segni indelebili sui muri grigi e sugli indefiniti spazi vuoti delle città. La mostra Urban legends narra la storia e le opere di dodici artisti, sei italiani e sei francesi, divenuti già leggende. E non a caso la mostra è allestita a Testaccio di Roma, nel quartiere definito lo “street art district” italiano.
20. Lo “ius soli” in discussione è temperato e non assoluto, cioè non sarà sufficiente nascere sul suolo italiano da genitori stranieri per acquisire la cittadinanza. Il minore nato o giunto in Italia prima dei 12 anni deve inoltre aver compiu to almeno un ciclo di studi di 5 anni. Beppe Grillo lo considera “un pastrocchio invotabile” e ha confermato l’astensione al Senato, così come il M5s fece alla Camera. Solo che al Senato l’astensione equivale al voto contrario e in questi casi i partiti che vogliono fare il pesce in barile fanno uscire dall’Aula i loro parlamentari. Vedremo.
