Since the beginning of the term OCAD researchers have submitted applications for 4 SSHRC Insight Grants, 2 SSHRC Connection Grants, 2 SSHRC Partnership Engage Grants, 3 OCE VIP 1 grants, and individual grant submissions to CUTRIC and the Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation. Announcing the recipients of the 2018 OCAD University Research Seed Grant The OCAD University Internal Seed Grant program is meant to support research projects for which there is currently no other funding available. The program is closely modeled after the SSHRC Insight Development Grant Program and is open to all tenured, tenure-track, or CLTA faculty members. Grant recipients from the 2018 competition include Dr. David McIntosh, Dr. James Miller, Dr. Selmin Kara, Ranee Lee, Dr. Suzanne Stein, and co-applicants Saskia Van Kampen and Cheryl Giraudy. Congratulations! OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH SERVICES Recent Research Awards • ROMEO Researcher Portal for Research Awards and Ethics - Dr. Gabrielle Moser, along with co-investigator Annie M. Submit your research news, events, stories, and successes to [email protected]** - Dr. Sara Diamond is the named supervisor of an Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council CREATE grant valued at $12,000 to support the Graduate stipend of Visual Analytics Lab member Sana Shepko-Hamilton RESEARCH NEWS “Culture Creates Bonds” project featured in the Toronto Star and Here and Now Toronto “Culture Creates Bonds”, a research project that focuses on arts and culture activity within communities, was featured in a Toronto Star article. Star reporter Donovan Vincent interviewed Dr. Sara Diamond as part of a story on recently awarded research grants from Sidewalk Labs. Diamond, along with her co-PI Dr. Alia Weston and Adjunct Professor Marcus Gordon, is leading a study which will concentrate on defining a specific set of key drivers, scenarios, and conditions that create natural human bonds in a residential or immediate neighbourhood. Weston spoke about the project in an interview with Gill Deacon of the CBC’s Here and Now Toronto. The exhibition, titled “Suspended”, draws upon recollections from Lynne’s childhood at Camp Naivelt (Yiddish for “New World”), a summertime family retreat in Brampton focused on secularist, socialist values, activism, and a celebration of Jewish and Yiddish culture. “Suspended” runs from November 12, 2018 – February 12, 2019 and had its opening night on Tuesday, November 20th from 7:00-9:00pm. The gathering brought together partners working on the research project (including co-investigators at Concordia University and event co-hosts The Inuit Art Quarterly/Inuit Art Foundation) with OCAD U Indigenous faculty, chairs, deans, and
