You requested the following information: "In relation to the information provided on the number of flights from the airfield I would be grateful if you could provide details on the types of aircraft that came in and out of the airfield. If you can provide this information I would be grateful if you could confirm if you are happy for this information to be released to a third party." I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. We have completed a search of our paper and electronic records for the information you have requested an.d I can confirm that information within the scope of your request is held. Please find attached at Annex· A, broken down by year, _a list of the different aircraft types that used RAF Church Fenton during 2012 and 2013. The list contains both military and civilian aircraft that used the station. You should note that in 2012 our records indicate that a glider and tug aircraft used RAF Church Fenton on a single day in 2012. However, the records do not indicate the type of the glider or tug aircraft. The Ministry of Defence is content for you pass on to a third party both the attached information and previous details of aircraft movements provided to you by the Flight Operations Manager at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. -

The Noise and Vibration Division (NVD) of the RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine (CAM) were tasked at Reference A by DSEA-CPA-Policy 1a to conduct a Noise Amelioration Scheme (Military) review of RAF Church Fenton. 2. A Noise Insulation Grant Scheme (NIGS) review of RAF Church Fenton was conducted in 2001 (Reference B). The most recent Environmental Noise Contours of RAF Church Fenton were produced in Feb 1989 (Reference C). The 2001 review found that the number of movements since 1989 had decreased and the conclusion was the 1989 contours were still relevant. 3. The survey conducted in 1989 included the Percival Jet Provost turbojet which was stationed at RAF Church Fenton in a training role for fast jet, multi-engine and rotary-wing aircraft pilots. In Apr 1992 the station closed and therefore the NIGS was suspended, but the airfield remained open as a relief landing ground for the Tucano turboprop aircraft operating from RAF Linton-on-Ouse. The Tucano replaced the Jet Provost. -

Pooley's Dawn to Dusk Challenge David Monks & Russell Waughman 15th July 2016 A David Monks and Rusty Waughman Production © 2017 Flight Log David Monks and Russell "Rusty" Waughman Flight Date: 15th July 2016 Foreword As a young pilot, the Pooleys Dawn to Dusk Challenge appealed to my sense of adventure, I had wanted to enter since qualifying as a pilot 1995.The hardest part was finding an inspiring theme to make sure your challenge flight stands head and shoulders above the rest. Any pilots ego will tell you that "you are in it to win it"! Some 21 years later, I had the pleasure of meeting a remarkable man, Lancaster pilot Flight Lieutenant Russell "Rusty" Reay Waughman AFC, DFC, Legion D'Honneur RAF (rtd). A sprightly then 93 year old, he gave me the inspiration and the unique story to finally enter the challenge. The theme was very personal to Rusty as it retraced his war-time footsteps round the RAF camps he served at whilst serving with 101 (Special Duties) Squadron, many of them he hadn't seen since the 1940s, he hadn't seen his base, Ludford Magna, from the air since the night before D-Day. After just over eight hours of flying with Rusty, the privilege afforded to me that day outweighed the importance of my pilot ego hoping to win. I couldn't say the same for Rusty. I'm fortunate to count Rusty as a friend. 1 2 Introduction David Monks bought his first helicopter when he was 27 years of age, a Robinson R22 purchased as he completed his PPL(H). -

PILOT ROYAL AIR FORCE 13TH JANUARY, 1941 AGE 28 IN VERY LOVING MEMORY ©Wiltshire OPC Project/Cathy Sedgwick/2012 Michael Thomas Gibson HENRY Michael Thomas Gibson HENRY was the only son of Thomas Gibson HENRY and Edith Margaret HENRY (nee Castle). Michael’s birth was registered in the September Quarter of 1912 in the district of Birkenhead, Cheshire. (The 1911 Census records Michael’s father – Thomas Gibson Henry as a 40 year old, single, solicitor, visiting Septimus Castle, aged 55, a solicitor, widowed & his 3 adult children – one of whom was Edith Margaret Castle, aged 26, Thomas Henry’s future wife. The address recorded was Park Lodge, Bidstow, Birkenhead & had 6 servants. Thomas Gibson HENRY married Edith M Castle in the June Quarter of 1911 at Birkenhead, Cheshire. 2 years after the birth of their only son, Thomas Gibson & Edith Margaret HENRY had a daughter – Elizabeth G HENRY, whose birth was registered in the September Quarter of 1914.) Michael Thomas Gibson HENRY attended the Sedbergh School in Cumbria, as part of Sedgwick House, from 1926 until 1930. Michael’s younger sister, Elizabeth G Henry married Frederick S Wakeham, in the district of Wirral, in the March quarter of 1937. Michael Thomas Gibson HENRY was granted a short service commission as Acting Pilot Officer with the Royal Air Force, on probation, on 5th July, 1937. (Source: London Gazette 20th July, 1937) M.T.G. Words cannot express how much they mean, just be assured that each and every one of you is truly valued xx My first challenge of the New Year was changing back to my maiden name … something of a relief, I have to say. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds! The bank clerk when she finally gets to me in the queue, informs me I can’t simply think up a new name and expect them to play ball!! But hey, this was the name I was born with? It took a flurry of evidential documents, taxis back and forth into town, and then some, before finally the dastardly deed was done. My second challenge is this year’s Reunion. What a challenge it is turning out to be!! Just as I thought it was all prepared, everything sorted, all the balls were suddenly in the air again. However, now, it really is something to celebrate, as it becomes our honour and privilege to be joined by the present-day U.S. -

C ONTENTS TO J UNE 2017 AIRFIELD REVIEW The Journal of the Airfield Research Group The journal was initially called Airfield Report , then ARG Newsletter, finally becoming Airfield Review in 1985. The number of pages has varied from initially just 6, occasio- nally to up to 60 (a few issues in c.2004). Typically 44, recent journals have been 48. There appear to have been three versions of the ARG index/ table of contents produced for the magazine since its conception. The first was that by David Hall c.1986, which was a very detailed publication and was extensively cross-referenced. For example if an article contained the sentence, ‘The squadron’s flights were temporarily located at Tangmere and Kenley’, then both sites would appear in the index. It also included titles of ‘Books Reviewed’ etc Since then the list has been considerably simplified with only article headings noted. I suspect that to create a current cross-reference list would take around a day per magazine which equates to around eight months work and is clearly impractical. The second version was then created in December 2009 by Richard Flagg with help from Peter Howarth, Bill Taylor, Ray Towler and myself. -
