  • 2013 World Dance Preview with PJ Kwong
The Skating Lesson Podcast Transcript TSL: 2013 World Championships Ice Dance Preview with PJ Kwong Jenny Kirk: Hello, and welcome to The Skating Lesson Podcast! I’m Jennifer Kirk, a former US ladies competitor and a three-time world team member. David Lease: I’m David Lease. I’m a figure skating blogger and a current adult skater. Now today, we are absolutely thrilled to have Canadian journalist and announcer PJ Kwong on the podcast. PJ recently had the temerity to compare Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir to fine cheddar and discuss Meryl and Charlie as being Kraft singles. And we’d love to discuss all of it with PJ today here on our preview of the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships about to be held in London, Ontario. [PJ Kwong joins podcast] Jenny: So, PJ, after Four Continents, with kind of a controversial competition in the dance event with the Americans and the Canadians, you wrote on your blog – you compared the two teams to each other. And you said that the program components and the technical elements were very similar in terms of – it could go either way. But you said not the choreography – you said, “regardless of the result, the difference between Virtue and Moir’s Carmen and Davis and White’s Notre Dame programs are like comparing a fine old cheddar cheese to Kraft slices. Both are yummy, both have their place, but one is definitely finer than the other.” Elaborate. What do you mean by that because I just – I would say Kraft singles and cheddar cheese – I mean, they’re in two different places in the grocery store! Like – I mean that seems a very, you know, big difference.

CHIPS 1 SM February 2010 Davis and White to President’s headline Olympics- Letter themed Ice Chips! Dear Members, Since our last Newsletter, 2009 is in the past and we all hope for a better 2010, even though we have been able to hold our own and have programs that continue to expand. Many of our skaters have had injuries, some families have lost loved ones and some are dealing with illnesses which we hope will be alleviated this year. Our skaters have continued to pre- sent themselves in an outstanding manner and the past two weeks at Nationals was no different; they are to be congratulated for their hard work and perseverance. We had our Board Retreat December 4 & 5, 2009 which provided a great opportunity to look at where we have been, our strengths and weaknesses, where we need to streamline our organization and procedures as a Board and staff, and where we need to go for the future to the benefit of our membership. Thanks to the Board Members and the club staff for their participation, time and talent. A special thanks to Jim McManus for an outstanding job in organizing the logistics with our leader, Rose Snyder, the Board and staff. Extremely well done, Jim! Our Synchronized Skating Teams, Team Ex- cel, continues to improve and they held their first send off on January 15, 2010 at the New England Sports Center with attendance over Photo by Sarah S.
