The Mystery Motors of the Autosafe “SkyPark”… Huge thanks to a number of you out there who sent me a link to the BBC News article that finally puts the issue I’ve been bleating on about for months (see Filmhouse December and February monthly programme introductions) to bed. Turns out the eight cars that have been trapped in the failed then abandoned automated car park (which is currently being dismantled behind our offices) since it closed in the early 2000s were only ever old bangers brought in to test the automatic parking machinery! Phew! Glad to have gotten to the bottom of that one… Our March programme, as is customary for the time of year, is replete with Oscar® hopefuls, it now being the turn of Lady Bird, Phantom Thread (in 70mm!), A Fantastic Woman, Palme d’Or winner The Square, and The Shape of Water, which continues from February. Awards season is, though, nearly over, as is evidenced by a slew of new films too new to qualify for consideration this year: Lynne Ramsay’s brilliant You Were Never Really Here; Warwick (Samson & Delilah) Thornton’s stunning Aussie ‘western’, Sweet Country, and Wes Anderson’s fabulous Isle of Dogs. And you know what, looking at that list, I’m going to stick my neck out and say that I’m not entirely sure I have ever seen a better line-up of new release cinema, at any one cinema, ever.

Running July 10-20 and screening 27 features with 8 special guests, JAPAN CUTS 2014 encompasses a thrilling cross section of cinephilic genre oddities, sword-swinging period action, profound documentaries, cathartic melodramas, warped comedies and cutting-edge arthouse cinema made in and around Japan. Guests include superstar performers and independent auteurs opening up in rare Q&As and dynamic parties rocking Japan Society’s historic theater and waterfall atrium. June 1–6, 2021 / 80 current Japanese films as video-on-demand / over 40 digital workshops, lectures & concerts Fine entertainment, food for thought, five world premieres and at least a touch of Japanese wackiness and warmth – this is what awaits the audience with around 80 current Japanese short and feature-length films of the 21st Nippon Connection Film Festival. After weeks of hoping and worrying, it is now certain that unfortunately the pandemic will not allow in-theater screenings in 2021 either. The largest festival for Japanese cinema worldwide will once again be held exclusively online from June 1 to 6, 2021. All films are available online for six days throughout Germany and in some cases outside of Germany. Face-to-face talks with the filmmakers are moving into the digital realm to spark a direct exchange. For everyone whose yearning for Japan is stronger than ever, there is also Nippon Culture: the digital supporting program with over 40 interactive workshops, talks, extraordinary performances and concerts. For the first time, the Nippon Click & Collect Kiosk at the usual festival center in the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main offers festival atmosphere to go. Salemba Raya No. 4, Jakarta Pusat 10430 Email: [email protected], [email protected] Abstract The advancement of technology and society has led to innovations, including in the field of media. Media convergence has given birth to a novel audiovisual medium called Video-on- Demand (VOD), which combined the logics of television, film, home video, the internet, as well as technology. This conceptual research applied a literature review method to discuss the journey of the logic of watching television with a specific schedule and a particular medium to the understanding that television, after all, is just an artifact. The paper also discussed new habits that are developed due to the birth of VOD and how VOD branding worked. This research aimed to look at how the development of media convergence in the form of VOD brought new trends, especially in Indonesia. The paper concluded that many new opportunities were ready to be utilized by VOD platforms to develop their content and reach Indonesian audiences. However, it was also necessary to consider that Indonesia’s regulations still were not utterly supporting the development of VOD. Ha llegado arropada al Festival por su actor protagonista, Nicolas Cage, y por su director, Panos Cosmatos. Conversamos con este último sobre hippies degenerados, sobre imaginar películas de terror antes de poder verlas y sobre cómo esta obra magna estuvo a punto de no llegar a existir por su negativa inicial a no rodar en otro formato que no fuera celuloide. Gareth Evans torna a les pantalles de Sitges amb Apostle, la nova aposta de Netflix pel terror, i ens parla dels seus projectes del passat, del present i ens avança algun del futur.
