BASEBALL SA 107th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING CONDUCTED AT SPORT SA, MILITARY ROAD, WEST BEACH WEDNESDAY 23rd July 2014 – 6:00PM MINUTES 1. WELCOME President Mark Snelgrove welcomed all in attendance, including Life Members, club delegates, nominees for Director Positions and guests and opened the League’s 107th Annual General Meeting at 6:05pm. 2. APOLOGIES Board Nathan Davison Life Members Kevin Greatrex Phil Alexander Norm ‘Chalky’ White Jim Wilton Greg Bradshaw Ken Wesslink Dave Roberts Kingsley Wellington Affiliated Associations Greg Bradshaw (SACBA) ELECTION OF PRESIDENT Whilst the nomination for Baseball SA President is being conducted, Mark Snelgrove has stepped down and Mark Brougham (VP) has stepped in. The two nominees running for this available position are Mark Snelgrove and Ron Harvey. It was voted by the floor that each nominee is to present a short speech on their history and why they would be suitable for the position. This was carried out by both nominees. Votes were collected and counted and Mark Snelgrove has been appointed as Baseball SA President. Thank you to Ron Harvey for putting forward your nomination. 4. ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES FROM THE PREVIOUS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING CONDUCTED ON THE 31st OF JULY, 2013. In accordance with the rules, the minutes from the previous meeting were circulated on 12th May 2014. Requested changes to the previous minutes were actioned. PRESENTATION AND ADOPTION OF THE 106th ANNUAL REPORT President Mark Snelgrove confirmed the Annual Report was distributed to clubs on Monday 21st July 2014 along with being published on our website the same day. It was noted by Enza Henty that the Under 23 State Team Report was missing along with the previous CAPPS Medallist winners. It has been adopted that these will be presented in our next books. PRESENTATION AND ADOPTION OF THE 2011/2012 FINANCIAL REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET President Mark Snelgrove confirmed the financial report was distributed to clubs and Life Members on 17th July 2014 and located in the Annual Report. Mover: Kevin Jennings Seconder: Mark McGarry CARRIED 7. LIFE MEMBERSHIP This year two nominees were elected by the Heritage Committee for Life Membership. Congratulations to Robert Laidlaw and Barry O’Brien. Ron Chandler and Alan Waldron proudly presented both with a plaque and Life Member pin. 8. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS 8.1. PATRON: Baseball SA is pleased to announce Terry Evans is Patron for 2014/15. Moved: Board of Directors CARRIED 8.2. DIRECTORS: Two nominations have been received for Youth Director: Kyle Smith Tony Catt It was moved by the floor that both nominees present a short speech to explain why they would be best suited for the role. It was voted by the floor and congratulations to Tony Catt who has been appointed as Youth Director. Thankyou to Kyle Smith for your nomination. Thank you Bob Neiswander for being involved on the Baseball SA board for 16 years. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated by all. Two nominations have been received for Affiliations Director: Ron Chandler Kevin Shepherdson It was submitted to the office on 20th July 2014 that Ron Chandler had withdrawn his nomination. Kevin Shepherdson has been appointed as Affiliations Director. Thank you to both who put through nominations. No nominations were received for the Marketing Director previously to the meeting. Nominations were asked from the floor, none were received. The Board will invite guests to fill this role at the next board meeting. 8.3. VICE PATRONS: On the recommendation of the Board, the following were nominated to continue as Vice Patrons - Dr Roger Capps, Ken Wesslink, Ron Wright and Howard Norman. These people, some of whom are also Life Members, have prestige in our sport and are always happy to help the League. These gentlemen accepted their nomination and no other further nominations were received. CARRIED 8.4. AUDITORS: Stevens & Andrews It was moved by the Board of Baseball SA that Stevens & Andrew Pty Ltd be appointed as Auditors of the League for 2014/15. GENERAL BUSINESS 24th June by Bridget George There will be an Operations Meeting held on 28th July 2014 where Division 7 & 8 will be discussed. 15th May by Kevin Jennings As per By-Law reference 12.8 Baseball SA will look into forming a sub-committee to focus on the CAPPS Medal night. Clubs found the venue this year was not good. Microphones were not loud enough and not enough time was popped into the overall presentation. The new sub-committee will take all the feedback regarding this night into consideration for next year. 23rd June by Brian Cakebread Policy for selecting coaches: Yes there is a policy in the constitution pages 8 & 9 12.4 b state coaching positions. This policy could be re -worded to come up to speed with current procedures. The process we use now is: - Call for expression of interest for coaching staff for upcoming nationals youth championship. - On closing, discussion between Operations Manager, Baseball Coordinator and Player Coach Development Director - After selection, sent to the Board for Approval. What programs for developing skills of all juniors? - The Bite Academy is our main program, run in two age groups. 1. Under 13/15 two days at Gillespie Sports and Saturday mornings -28 Athlete’s - Under 17/19 two days at Gillespie Sports & two teams in winter ball comp.- 43 Athlete’s Outstanding group of coaches with significant experience in a. National Australia teams/ programs: - American Intercollegiate programs - American or Japanese Professional programs Upcoming programs / clinics to help improve our juniors: - Buddy Program in conjunction with Adelaide Bite - Training with the Pros Adelaide Bite - Sunraysia Clinic before Country Carnival - Sunraysia Pitching Clinic June - Country Clinic during Country Championship - Broken Hill Potential T-ball program. - Planning Holiday Clinic to be run through January using Bite pro players. Also working on increasing numbers of Accredited Coaches in club land, already have bookings to run accreditations at Clubs for upcoming Season. 6 New Accreditations’ in the last 12 Months. 23rd June by Carolyn Smith Kevin Shepherdson is currently looking over all our policies and procedures and further documentation will be sent out regarding this in coming weeks. 23rd June by Enza Henty Baseball SA staff are working with those members / clubs who are currently sitting in 90 days on Aged Receivables. Payment plans have been popped into place for those who need that extra help to pay off their outstandings. Clubs which are un-financial to the league are not eligible to vote at the AGM. FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE FLOOR: Diamond Sports $2 Million has been awarded to the progress of Diamond Sports which is currently sitting in the Diamond Sports account. We are not relying on funds from clubs to supports this new facility; our funding will be solely from the Government. A deed of commitment has been done between Baseball and Softball SA. The new facility will be available to move into on May 1st 2015. There will be 3 diamonds, new seating, change rooms, training facility and offices. Imports At the Operations Meeting which will be held on 28th July the Non-Nationals ruling will be reviewed. Clubs sent through their feedback and Baseball SA will respond with an answer ASAP. Sponsorship between the BITE and SABL The BITE has a brand to sell, however the SABL do not. Having a joint Chief Executive Officer who maintains the SABL and BITE this will allow Sponsorship to grow, which will reduce some costs from the office. Having a joint CEO will allow us to have some strength and structure moving forward. Umpires Mark Snelgrove has currently setup a monthly meeting with the Umpire and Scorers Associations to keep up to date and share information between all parties.
