PREPARING AND PROTECTING YOUTH BASEBALL PLAYERS: A Free Clinic for Youth Baseball Parents and Coaches Tuesday, December 8, 2009 – 7PM Cressey Performance Training Center, 577 Main St., Hudson, MA 01749 Come join Eric Cressey and Matt Blake for a clinic-style discussion and demonstration of the importance of properly developing the youth baseball player. Eric and Matt will discuss the current injury epidemic in youth baseball, how it stems from overuse in competition, and what some of the major developmental needs are for the youth baseball player. This clinic for the parents and coaches of youth players will include a demonstration of the Rightview Pro slow-motion video analysis – the only training system licensed by MLB, MLBPA, and the NPF – used by professional pitching coaches to help identify common pitching mechanics faults. You will learn more about what coaches and parents can do to help amateur baseball players handle the stresses of throwing a baseball - with an emphasis on flexibility and stability assessments and ways to address deficits in these areas to prevent potential injuries before they occur. Matt Blake is the Pitching Coach for Lincoln-Sudbury HS, and Pitching Coordinator for the NE Ruffnecks. Since graduating from Holy Cross as a member of the team from 2003-2007 and Captain his senior season, Matt Blake has quickly established himself as one of the premier pitching coaches in New England. Matt's demonstrated ability to grasp the intricacies of high-level pitching mechanics and convey age- appropriate information to suit each pitcher's developmental needs is truly unique. By including modern technology in lesson plans and using progressive teaching methods that are built around the most up-to-date scientific research, Matt speeds up the learning curve for players. What Those “In the Know” Are Saying About Cressey Performance “In a day and age when you read, daily, about players taking ‘short cuts’ and trying to find the quickest way to ‘get good’, if you understand anything about the human body and professional sports you know neither of those applies. Eric Cressey is as cutting-edge as anyone out there when it comes to throwing a baseball. His insight into not only the biomechanics of the action, but in understanding that the kinetic chain is about engaging the entire body and his position specific workouts are far ahead of their time. He also has great insight into the lives we live as professionals and knows that while nutrition is the foundation of any good athlete, there are ways to be healthy, and stay healthy. No matter if you’re traveling from Motel 6 to Motel 6 in the NY Penn League, or on charter flights around the AL East, this guy is as good as they come. “In addition to being one of the smartest minds on the planet he’s as good a person as he is a trainer, if not better. I couldn’t recommend anyone more highly than Eric if you are truly serious about tapping into potential you never knew you had, or pushing yourself to places you never knew you could go.” Curt Schilling Member of the 2001, 2004 and 2007 World Champion Diamondbacks and Red Sox. “After completing my first full season of professional baseball, I realized the mental and physical toll it took on my body. I made a commitment to return to spring training in the best shape of my life and Cressey Performance allowed me to do just that. I trained muscles I never knew I had and managed to put on six pounds of lean muscle in three months while adding over ten inches to my vertical jump. In doing so, I became a better athlete and a more efficient thrower.” Tim Collins 2009 Toronto Blue Jays Organizational Pitcher of the Year “Now in my third season with the Milwaukee Brewers Organization, I know what it takes to make it through 140 games. I trained at CP for three months during my off-season, making the 40 minute drive from Boston four days a week and I wish I could have gone more often. I returned to spring training in the best shape of my life and the results went a long way. The strength and flexibility training, mixed with diet tips helped me get the most out of my off-season.” Steffan Wilson 2007 Milwaukee Brewers Draft Pick “When it comes to strength training for baseball players there is no one who rivals Eric and the guys at Cressey Performance. In just 5 months I drastically increased the weight on every lift all while increasing my flexibility. The best part about the strength I gained while working at Cressey Performance is that it has translated directly to the mound. I am now in the best shape of my entire life and throwing harder with less effort. My only regret is that I didn't find out about Cressey Performance when I was in High School.” Shawn Haviland 2008 Oakland A’s Draft Pick “Eric Cressey identified my weaknesses and provided me with a program designed specifically to address these deficiencies. Since being introduced to Cressey Performance training philosophies, my flexibility has improved and the strength in my lower-half has shot up. The adjustments Eric has made to my training regimen have finally allowed me to tap into my true baseball potential, taking me from a projected 4 th or 5 th round pick all of the way to the 1 st round of the 2009 MLB Draft.” Chad Jenkins 2009 Toronto Blue Jays 1 st Round Draft Pick .
