CHAMPS--For the first time in franchise history, the Royals are appearing in the The Royals and Mets kickoff the first-ever “expansion” World Series in consecutive seasons, winning the club’s fourth American League crown last Friday night World Series, as each club entered Major League Baseball as with a 4-3 nailbiter over the Toronto Blue Jays, taking the best-of-seven series, 4-2...Kansas City is the first expansion franchises in 1969 and 1962, respectively...Kansas American League club to win back-to-back crowns since the 2010-11 Texas Rangers, and the third since City has won five of the nine Interleague contests against the 2000, as the Yankees won the last two of four straight A.L. titles after the turn of the century...KC’s climb to Metropolitans, going 2-1 in the only three games contested here the top this October started with a 5-game series win over Houston in the American League Division Series, in 2004 and 3-3 in Flushing Meadows...these clubs last met in with the Royals trailing the ‘Stros by a 2-1 count entering Game #4 in Minute Maid Park and losing by a 6-2 Citi Field in 2013, with KC prevailing, 2-1. score in the eighth inning before a miraculous 5-run frame gave KC a 7-6 advantage and eventual 9-6 win, before returning home for Game #5 and rebounding from a 2-0 deficit to take that series...Kansas City then went up against the A.L. East champs from Toronto, winning the first two games here before dropping two of three in Rogers Centre to return home for Game #6 last Friday...tied at 3-3 in the home half of the eighth, Lorenzo Cain opened the inning with a walk and scored from first on a single to right by Eric Hosmer, then Wade Davis survived a second and third, one-out jam in the ninth to seal Kansas City’s fourth American League title and propel the Royals into this year’s Fall Classic. FALL CLASSIC ROSTER--The Royals have changed their 25-man roster for the World Series, adding 20-year old infielder Raul Mondesi and removing outfielder Terrance Gore, who was active for the first two rounds...to get Mondesi on the roster, the Royals selected his contract from Northwest Arkansas (AA) and to make room on the 40-man roster, KC designated pitcher Joba Chamberlain for assignment...Mondesi is an injury replacement for Tim Collins, who is eligible for the post-season, but unable to perform due to Tommy John surgery in March...should Mondesi perform in this series, he will be the first player in history to make his Major League debut in a World Series...the 25-man roster that will represent the Royals in the World Series: PITCHERS (11): Johnny Cueto, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy (L), Kelvin Herrera, Luke Hochevar, Ryan Madson, Kris Medlen, Franklin Morales (L), Yordano Ventura, Edinson Volquez and Chris Young. CATCHERS (2): Drew Butera and Salvador Perez. INFIELDERS (7): Christian Colon, Alcides Escobar, Eric Hosmer, Raul Mondesi, Kendrys Morales, Mike Moustakas and Ben Zobrist. OUTFIELDERS (4): Lorenzo Cain, Alex Gordon, Paulo Orlando and Alex Rios. KC’S WORLD SERIES HISTORY--Kansas City is 1-2 all-time in World Series play, the most recent a year ago when the Royals came up 90-feet shy of tying Game #7 here in Kauffman Stadium, as Alex Gordon was left stranded in a 3-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants...KC’s lone World Championship on the diamond took place 30 years ago in 1985, when the Royals rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take the final three games from the St. Louis Cardinals to win the I-70 Series and first-ever World Series for this community...Kansas City took a similar route to the ‘85 Fall Classic by defeating Toronto in the ALCS, the same club the Royals defeated to get to this year’s World Series... KC’s first exposure to the World Series was in 1980, when the Philadelphia Phillies won the title by taking four of six games. FALL BALL SUCCESS AT ‘THE K’--The Royals open the 2015 World Series riding a 5-game home winning streak and possessors of an overall 5-1 ledger this fall in Kauffman Stadium...Kansas City has won 13 of its last 16 postseason games contested in ‘The K’...dating back to 1985, the Royals ended the World Series with two consecutive home wins over St. Louis and then KC was 6-2 here last year, going 1-0 vs. Oakland and Los Angeles and then 2-0 over the Orioles before a 2-2 split of the four World Series home games with San Francisco...the Royals opened this year’s postseason with a 2-1 mark here vs. the Astros in the ALDS and then won all three home games vs. Toronto in the ALCS...Kansas City had the third best home record in the American League at 51-30. ESKY MVP--Shortstop Alcides Escobar was the Most Valuable Player of the ALCS, hitting .478 (11-for-23) with two doubles, a triple, six runs scored and five driven in...Esky and last year’s ALCS MVP, Lorenzo Cain, were acquired in the same trade in the winter of 2010 from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Zack Greinke.
