District- Tehri Garhwal *{F4Tfrd- 31-frfl*il{-2012 "/ Geological Assessment of the alignment pronosed for Chamund link motor road, District- Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Viiav Dangwal 31-12-12 t. Introduction:- The Provinical Division, Public works Department New Tehri has proposed the construction of 0.50 km long Chamund link motor road in Tehri Tehsil. District- Tehri Garhwal. On the request of Er. Badan Singh, Executive Engineer, I carried out the geological Assessment of the proposed alignment on 30.12.12 in presence of Er. Y. P. Joshi, Astt. Engineer and Er. u. K Goel, p.D., p.w.D New Tehri. Z. LOCatiOn:- The Proposed alignment of Chamund motor link originates from km 4.0 of Tehri- Kirtinagar motor road and it ends at village Chamund, within 0.5 km length. The area lies in the close vicinity of New Tehri Town and Baurari Hamlet. :. GeOlOgiCal ASSeSSment:- Geologically the atignment of the proposed road is located in the middle lands of Garhwal Lesser Himalayan Belt, bounded by the Mail Central Thrust (MCT) in the north and Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) in the south. Another prominent ihrust namely Srinagar Thrust (ST) runs in between this beit which separates the rocks of Krol Nappe form the rocks of Garhwal Group. The proposed alignment is located the close vicinity of Srinagar Thrust and two different lithological units namely Chandpur phyllites and Nagthat Quartzites are exposed on its southern direction. The effect of Srinagar Thrust is clearely manifested on these rocks hence they are sheared and shattered in nature. Most of these rocks are thinly foliated, folded, partially weathered and dissected by five prominent joint sets. The entire alignment corridor of Chamund link road passes across the slope inclined at 200 to 350 in N 230 direction and the alignment slopes are covered with the thick cover of overburden material comprised of angular rock fragments embe<i<ieci in ciay- siit matrix. The slope forming overburden material is naturally well compacted and dense. Its "Undrained Shear Strength" at the site has been assessed ranging between 300 k Pa to 500 k Pa which coresponds to the consistency "Very Stiff'soils. The slope forming material do not contain any alkali content or dispersive / soft soil.     UTTARAKHAND RELIGIOUS DESTINATIONS COME CLOSER UTTARAKHAND Himachal Pradesh Punjab UTTARAKHAND Haryana Uttar Pradesh The State of Uttarakhand, often called “Devbhoomi”, is a popular destination for religious and adventure tourism. A network of stronger, safer, all weather roads is being built, in the State over the past four years. Till 2014, the length of National Highways was 2,509 km. In 2018, NH length has reached 3,492 km. The completion of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Delhi Saharanpur Highway will result in greater savings in time, cost and fuel for Uttarakhand bound vehicles. Over Rs. 5,000 Cr will be invested to build 983 km of new National Highways. Work is in progress on 66 projects worth Rs. 12,300 Cr, spanning a length of 800 km. Under Chardham programme, 37 projects of 633 km length, worth a total cost of Rs. 8,500 Cr have been sanctioned. Out of these 23 projects of 385 km length worth Rs. 4,100 Cr are ongoing and the remaining ones are at tender/award stage. A total of Rs. 30,000 Cr worth investments will be made towards road development in the State. “When a network of good roads is created, the economy of the country also picks up pace. Roads are veins and arteries of the nation, which help to transform the pace of development and ensure that prosperity reaches the farthest corners of our nation.” NARENDRA MODI Prime Minister “In the past four years, we have expanded the length of Indian National Highways to 1,26,350 km. Introduction Uttarakhand, a hill state of India, lies in the northern part of country in the loftiest Himalayan mountain range. It covers in total 53,066 km2 area. Out of which approximately 48,000 km2 (90%) falls in hilly terrain (Joshi, 2004). Geologically this area is complex and forms a part of the young Himalayan belt. Tehri Garhwal is one of the largest districts in the hill state of Uttarakhand, which falls in hilly terrain. Its administrative headquarters is at New Tehri. The district has a population of 604,747 (in 2001 census), a 16.15% increase over the previous decade. It is surrounded by four districts, viz., Rudraprayag in the east, Dehradun in the west, Uttarkashi in the north, and Pauri Garhwal in the south. 2. Overview of Mining Activity in the District In the earlier time the mud houses/buildings were constructed with the use of mud. However with the passage of time, new techniques of development activities were started. As such the demand of Minor Mineral started on an increasing trend. In order to meet the requirement of raw material for construction, the extraction of sand, gravel & boulder carried out manually / semi- mechanized process from the river beds.
