ABSTRACT The child development guide, part of a consumer and homemaking education unit, was developed in a 3-week curriculum workshop at Winthrop College in June 1972. The identified objectives and learning experiences have been developed with basic reference to developmental tasks, needs, interests, capacities, and prior learning experiences of students. Parents, teachers, administrators, students, and special consultants listed what they considered to be the most crucial aspects of child care and development for today's South Carolina youth. For the basic, grade 9, unit the concepts of parenthood, guidance and development of young children, development of young children through play, children's health, and career opportunities in child care and development are outlined. For the semester, grades 10-12, unit, concepts considered are preparation for parenthood; pregnancy and birth; child rearing theories and practices; development and nurture of young children; child welfare laws; adoption of children; community, State, and national resources and services for child development; and career oppdrtunities related to children. Under each concept, three columns list behavioral objectives, learning and evaluation experiences, and teaching resources.
