Internship Description

Taina Asili, LLC is currently seeking an intern to assist with booking, promotions, and research for Taina Asili y La Banda Rebelde (TABR), a musical group based in Albany, NY. Taína Asili, LLC is an enterprise dedicated to lasting social change. TABR is multi-genre band with a message of social and environmental justice based out of Albany, NY. TABR believe that music is not only their livelihood but a powerful means of making positive change in this world. TABR support efforts to bring about justice and peace by creating music which carries this message, as well as by participating in projects, events and programs which seek to work towards this goal. TABR has just released their debut album "War Cry". In addition to album promotion, the band is currently in the midst of booking national and international tours.

Responsibilities may include: • researching venues • sending out promotional materials • locating potential business sponsors • researching promotional opportunities such as radio, print and online media.

Taina Asili, LLC is looking for energetic interns who can work a flexible schedule (approximately 10-15 hours a week), and who are able to work at least a summer or a semester's length of time. The internship may be extended. This internship is a great opportunity for anyone, particularly artists, interested in learning the behind the scenes of growing their own socially responsible business. The internship is not paid, however there are many opportunities to receive excellent practical experience.

About Taina Asili: Taina Asili is has been working as a vocalist, composer, poetry workshop instructor and event organizer for over 10 years. Her live band, Taina Asili y La Banda Rebelde is a blend of soulful vocals laid over a unique infusion of , rock, reggae and Afro-Caribbean sounds, with band members who have origins in , Sicily, , Brazil, Ghana and . Taina is a winner of the 2005 Transformation Award given by the Leeway Foundation each year to a select few of women artists who profoundly use their work towards social change. Taina has shared the stage with artists such as Ursula Rucker, Sonia Sanchez, Pamela Means, Dead Prez, and Talib Kweli. Taina is dedicated to using her art as a tool for personal and social transformation, and is based in the concrete organizing work she is in involved in. She has a BA in Women's Studies from Binghamton University and a MA in Transformative Language Arts from Goddard College.
