This year, as we celebrate Capital Pride 2009, let us remember the 40th anniversary of our brothers and sisters from the Stonewall Riots in NYC and all the LGBTQ people since then who have made this celebration a truly wonderful event. The CDGLCC continues to advocate for our diverse LGBTQ community, from youth to seniors, providing a safe space and on-going dialogue to make our community the best it can be! I would like to thank the co-chairs of Capital Pride 2009, Cathi Iuliano and Ulysses deArmas, who have done an amazing job of coordinating all the events, the parade and festival, and the volunteers. Thank you all for your many hours of hard work! I would also like to thank Mayor Jerry Jennings and the City of Albany for co-sponsoring the parade and festival and the many corporate and media sponsors. Finally, I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and extra hours to make this year’s Capital Pride 2009 the best ever! With Pride, Judy Disco President, CDGLCC June 2009 Dear Capital District Community Members, After an incredibly successful first Pride last year, I’m so excited to once again celebrate Capital Pride with all of you. This amazing organization and community are the heart not only of the Capital Region, but of the LGBT movement nationally. As the oldest continuously-operating LGBT Community Center, we are commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in NYC this year as the birth of our movement for equality. Capital Pride 2009 would not be possible without the leadership of Cathi Iuliano and Ulysses deArmas and the participation and energy of the entire Pride Committee. The Committee began meeting last fall, and the fruit of all that hard work is the variety of events happening during our 11 day celebration. Also, the Board and staff of the CDGLCC works hard to ensure a successful Pride season- great job! This year, as we look back at the last 40 years of our movement, we also look ahead to the celebration of the founding of the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council- 4o years next year. We’re lucky enough to have many of our founders with us in the region, and will be hearing from them as part of the Panel Discussion during Pride Week. Also, don’t forget the Black and Latino Gay Pride is happening June 5-7. Last year was a great success, and this year there are even more events and activities! So, enjoy Pride, and all the revelry during the 11 days. We all should embrace the celebration of who we love and of who we are, not just this week, but all year long. With hope, Nora K. Yates Executive Director June 2009 Dear Friends, It’s hard to believe, but here we are celebrating Pride for the 39th consecutive year in Albany. That’s quite an accomplishment, especially since each year it just gets better and better. Of course, the reason behind those 39 successful Pride celebrations are the volunteers who work so hard every year to make it such a great time. This year we had the largest Pride Planning Committee ever. It was a great pleasure for us to serve as the Chairs for this dedicated group of volunteers, and they’ve put together a terrific roster of events and activities. We begin this year a little differently than we have in years passed; our first event this year will be an Interfaith Service being held on June 3rd at FUUSA. Thursday the 4th brings the traditional Kick-Off BBQ at the Center and it’s always so much fun to reconnect with old friends, make some new ones, and enjoy the food and prizes. The following 10 days are jam-packed with all kinds of fun things to do, culminating on Sunday, June 14th, with the parade and the festival. A complete listing of all of our 2009 Pride Events appears in this Guide and on our website at www.cdglcc.org. We hope you’ll all attend and most of all, we hope you all have fun. This year’s Parade and Festival promise to be the best ever. Our roster of wonderful entertainers includes Erin Harkes and Taina Asili y la Banda Rebelde, and this year we have two headliners – Amber and Frenchie Davis. Chrissy Cavotta and Shawn Gillie from Fly92 along with with the lovely Penny Larceny will be our hosts. Every year there is an extensive list of people to thank in addition to our fabulous volunteer Planning committee. First off, thanks to our corporate sponsors, local businesses and individual donors without whom all of this could not take place. Thanks to Mayor Jennings and the City of Albany for their unwaivering support not only during Pride, but all year long. Thanks to the CDGLCC Board of Directors for the support, encouragement and assistance. Finally, thanks to the Center staff – particularly our outstanding Executive Director, Nora Yates – who are really the “unsung heroes” of Pride each year. Their contributions to the planning and execution of Pride each year is immeasurable. On behalf of the entire Pride Committee we thank them with great enthusiasm for everything they do.     RURAL HYSTERIA: GENRE OF THE REIMAGINED PAST, SPECTACLE OF AIDS, AND QUEER POLITICS IN DIANA LEE INOSANTO’S THE SENSEI Kendall Joseph Binder A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2013 Committee: Becca Cragin, Advisor Jeffrey Allan Brown Marilyn Ferris Motz © 2013 Kendall Joseph Binder All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Becca Cragin, Advisor Diana Inosanto reimagines the 1980s AIDS epidemic in her film, The Sensei (2008) and implements cultural issues on rurality, sexuality, and tolerance within the overall narrative structure. Finding it important to use the works of Rick Altman, John G. Cawelti, and Fredric Jameson, I theorize how postmodernism affects film genres and their evolution through pastiche and historical events. Within this genre cycle, The Sensei fits into several other film genre types that include the queer film, AIDS film, and martial arts film. Drawing from the works of Richard Dyer, B. Ruby Rich, Kylo-Patrick Hart, and David West, I place The Sensei into each category to develop thoughts on how hybrid genres work into film creation. Analyzing the works on myths of the small town and rurality, assumptions about queer migration, and stigmatizations about AIDS, I attempt to disprove these myths and assumptions through the works of Bud W. Jerke, Judith Halberstam, Michael Kennedy, and Emily Kazyak. My overall goal is to project social awareness about queer cultural geography, issues with AIDS in rural areas, and the vitalization of anti-bullying issues that have saturated our media landscape within the last two decades using Inosanto’s The Sensei as a vehicle to evoke thought.

THOUSAND OAKS HIGH SCHOOL 2018-2022 DANCE CONTRACT For all TOHS Dances on and off campus 1. Generally doors will open at 7:00 p.m. No one will be admitted to the dance before this time. Doors will close at 8:30 p.m. No one will be admitted after that time, and no refunds or reimbursements will be given. Parents/Guardians will be contacted for any student leaving prior to 9:00 p.m. PICTURES will only be taken at the Dance until 10:30 p.m. The dance will end at 11:00 p.m. *Times are subject to change depending on venue* 2. No one will be admitted without a Thousand Oaks High School I.D. card, and all guests must have some form of picture I.D. Only I GUEST per TOHS Student. Guests must be at least in the 9th grade and not older than 20 years of age. TOHS ADMINISTRATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DENY ANY GUEST APPLICATION. 3. Purses and vehicles are subject to inspection. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com Chad Allen gained fame for his sensitive portrayal of an autistic child on a hit television show, but unlike many child stars, he has successfully made the transition from child actor to adult actor. He has also come out as a gay man and become a vocal advocate for glbtq rights. Chad Allen Lazzari and his twin sister, Charity, were born in Cerritos, California on June 5, 1974 and grew up in the neighboring city of Long Beach. Their mother entered the winsome children in twin contests, and when they had success, considered getting them into show business. Her daughter did not enjoy working before the camera, but her son was a natural and made his first professional appearance in a McDonald's commercial at the age of four. When Allen was six he won a role in the pilot episode for a television series, but the show was not picked up. Two years later he was cast as Tommy Westphall, an autistic child, on the hit drama series St. Elsewhere (1983-1986, 1988). Allen later said that his mother explained that "autistic kids lived in their own world, and I understood that." Allen's performance as Tommy Westphall was extraordinarily affecting and nuanced. It quickly established him as a child actor of unusual sensitivity and talent, one who could hold his own in a strong ensemble cast. The youthful Allen had guest roles on almost a dozen series in the 1980s and played recurring characters on Webster (1985-1986), Our House (1986-1988), and My Two Dads (1989-1990).

    Commemorative Issue 2019 Upon Reflection is year of celebration has brought many opportunities to re ect. We began our 175th year celebrating Blessed Basil Moreau’s Feast Day and honoring his vision through service and caring for others in the community. We gathered with family and friends around the table to share a meal at the Moreau Dinner. And we gathered around the table of the Eucharist to celebrate the goodness of God. We brought our joys and sorrows and we were sent forth to walk in solidarity with others to build community. Our year began in the spirit of celebration, and so we end it. at is what Saint Mary’s women have always done — gathered together to celebrate and go forth. It is what our faith teaches us to do and through the education o ered at Saint Mary’s, students are equipped to go out into their communities with open hearts embracing new ways of envisioning peace and doing the work of justice. e needs of the world are great and have been even before the sisters saw the need to educate young girls. How we meet those needs going forward may change, but rooted in Moreau’s vision and the work of the sisters, we will continue to educate women, and men in the graduate programs. So what di erence does a milestone year like this make? What has this year invited us into? is year of celebration, of honoring our founding and traditions, is preparation to continue to meet the needs of our contemporary world.
