Currently, he is an associate professor of physical therapy in the College of Health Sciences at University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Alsalaheen is a co-author of the physical therapy clinical practice guidelines for concussion and he authored or coauthored more than 30 articles on Medline. Dr. Alsalaheen’s current work is examining factors associated with variations in concussion risks and recovery including health services research related to concussion. Eric Anson, PT, PhD Eric Anson, PT, PhD completed his physical therapy education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2003 and received his PhD in kinesiology in 2015 from the University of Maryland. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in aging vestibular physiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.     Electromagnet (Edited from Wikipedia) SUMMARY An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. The magnetic field disappears when the current is turned off. Electromagnets usually consist of insulated wire wound into a coil. A current through the wire creates a magnetic field which is concentrated in the hole in the center of the coil. The wire turns are often wound around a magnetic core made from a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material such as iron; the magnetic core concentrates the magnetic flux and makes a more powerful magnet. The main advantage of an electromagnet over a permanent magnet is that the magnetic field can be quickly changed by controlling the amount of electric current in the winding. However, unlike a permanent magnet that needs no power, an electromagnet requires a continuous supply of current to maintain the magnetic field. Electromagnets are widely used as components of other electrical devices, such as motors, generators, relays, loudspeakers, hard disks, MRI machines, scientific instruments, and magnetic separation equipment. Electromagnets are also employed in industry for picking up and moving heavy iron objects such as scrap iron and steel. HISTORY Danish scientist Hans Christian Ørsted discovered in 1820 that electric currents create magnetic fields. British scientist William Sturgeon invented the electromagnet in 1824. His first electromagnet was a horseshoe-shaped piece of iron that was wrapped with about 18 turns of bare copper wire (insulated wire didn't exist yet). The iron was varnished to insulate it from the windings. When a current was passed through the coil, the iron became magnetized and attracted other pieces of iron; when the current was stopped, it lost magnetization.

    3 Opium: Explorations of an Ambiguous Drug Introduction Since at least the 1960s, when increasing drug abuse became an issue of political and public concern in the West, the history of opium has been of considerable interest. As in other areas of historical investigation inspired by today’s problems, the focus tended to be on precursor stages or roots of present phenomena, i.e., attention was devoted mainly to earlier perceptions of the drug’s psychotropic and addictive properties, and to medical and social responses to this. The by now classical study in this field was published in 1962/63 by Glenn Sonnedecker, who gave an overview of the development of the concept of opiate addiction from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. Sonnedecker documented Western knowledge about the dangers of habitual consumption of the drug since the Renaissance, mainly from reports of travellers to countries of the Near, Middle and Far East about indigenous opium-eaters. Yet he also pointed out that an awareness of opium addiction as a serious medical or even social problem could not be found in the West before the nineteenth century. 1 This was confirmed by John C. Kramer in a brief survey of the medical uses and misuses of opium in Western countries during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and more recently in a comprehensive study of the history of opium addiction by Margit Kreutel. 2 Accordingly most of the scholarly work on historical aspects of opium has been devoted to developments from the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century onwards, when the non-medical, recreational use of the drug became popular in the Western world.

(BLACKPOOL) LTD., BACK REGENT ROAD, BLACKPOOL 1961 PREFACE Jt is now more than thirty years since the last list of the Chester probate records, for the period 1811 to 1820, was published by the Record Society in volumes 78 and 79. In 1949 all the documents prior to 1858 were removed from the jurisdiction of the Chester Probate Registry and divided into three groups : those relating to Welsh estates were deposited in the National Library of Wales, the Cheshire ones went to the Cheshire Record Office in Chester, and the remainder — by far the largest portion — which related to Lancashire estates, together with the indexes, registers and act books were deposited in the Lancashire Record Office in Preston. All the wills proved and administrations granted in the Chester Court for the period 1821 to 1825 are now listed in this volume in three indexes, baldly described as Lancashire, Cheshire and Welsh, although several documents in each group relate to other parts of the country.
