Please silence your cell phones. If you need to take a call, please step outside and then come back and join us. Feel free to ask questions at any time during the class. We will cover all draw game and scratch ticket game functions. The class is expected to run about three hours. The Texas online system is made up of five components 1. The first is the mainframe computer located in Austin, Texas. This central system records all transactions and keeps track of all tickets, sales and winners. 2. The second is the gaming software used to operate the games. 3. The third part of the system is the communication network. A satellite link, dual cellular or frame relay data line connects your sales terminal to the central system. 4. The sales terminals are the fourth part of the online system. 5. The most important part of the system is you, the Texas Lottery retailer. Without retailers to sell the tickets the system would have no purpose. You are a vital link and we want to provide you with all the training and assistance possible to assure your success. Before we look at the terminal functions and Texas Lottery games, you need to know that the Texas Lottery takes the issue of responsible gaming seriously. Responsibility is a core value of the Texas Lottery Commission and that includes educating our players, retailers and employees about responsible gaming. Play Responsibly brochures (trainer show example) are provided to you by the Texas Lottery Commission and are available on the Texas Lottery® App and website at txlottery.org where you also may view a retailer training video which we will now watch. Approved May 22, 2018 3 The information provided to you today is designed to inform you of the resources available should you know someone or encounter a situation where a person is seeking assistance with a gambling problem. (Show video.) This information is provided as a public service. When faced with questions about problem gambling or a situation involving someone that may be having difficulty, you can provide information that may be helpful. What should a retailer do when faced with a person who may not be playing lottery games responsibly? a. Make the sale and move the player along. b. Refuse to sell the player any more tickets. c. Offer a pamphlet with helpful resources. Any of these answers may be the right answer depending on your situation. Altura and Altura C The Altura/Altura C terminal is in constant communication with the central computer system via a satellite link, cellular device, or dedicated data line known as frame relay. When a ticket or information is requested from your terminal, a message is immediately sent to the host computer and a response is returned. The terminal must stay plugged in with continuous power to maintain the communication. Introduction to the Altura/Altura C Terminal This section covers the hardware for your lottery terminal. Let’s have a look at your terminal and each of the components. Currently your terminal is powered down; let’s go ahead and turn it on. The on/off switch is conveniently located on the back right side of the terminal. The Altura C power button is on the upper back side. Just slide your right hand toward the back of the terminal and loop your fingers around. Did you find the switch? Perfect, push it to the left which is the On position. For the Altura C, push it up which is the On position. We should all hear our terminals coming to life. How easy was that? Well it only gets easier. Look at the front of your terminal. Notice the round silver button to the right of the screen? That is also a power button. (The Altura C power button is in the center above the screen.) Please do not do this now, but you can power your terminal on or off with this button. To power off you would hold it for about eight (8) seconds until the green light turns amber. To power back on, push it once. The amber light will turn green and your terminal will power up and begin to load. Once your terminal has loaded, the colorful, easy-to-use buttons will appear. Alright, while waiting for the terminal to load let’s take a look at the other items. (Demo IDU – Hold up) This is an indoor unit or IDU which allows your Altura to communicate with the central lottery system. When your new terminal is installed please make sure that you and all your employees know where the IDU is located. Because, if for some reason your terminal were to experience a communication issue, the IGT Hotline will ask you which lights are illuminated on the IDU so they can diagnose the problem and get you up and running as quickly as possible. Many of you will be receiving one of these flat screens called the ESMM Customer Display Unit. It Approved May 22, 2018 5 has many functions, the first being the display of player transaction and validation amounts. The ESMM also displays jackpot amounts and promotional messages. AMBER, Silver, Blue and Endangered Missing Person Alerts also are displayed on the ESMM. There is a shelf on the back of your terminal; this shelf can house the ESMM, making it easier for your players to read, or the printer, reducing the footprint of your terminal components. The Check-a-Ticket device allows customers to self-check their tickets to see if they are winners without involving a clerk. To clean the equipment, just wipe it down with a 91-percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or a water-dampened cloth. If the Check-a-Ticket is malfunctioning, please call the IGT Hotline to troubleshoot the problem. Before we move back to our terminal, which should now be displaying the Sign On screen, does anyone have any questions? Let’s review the Touch Screen. The touch screen can be positioned for comfortable height or angle for the user. To change the angle, reach under the bottom of the touch screen in the center and tilt it upward or downward. It is important to remember to use only your fingertips or knuckles on the touch screen. Please don’t use objects such as pens, pencils or long fingernails on the screen as it will not respond to contact with such items and could damage the screen. When cleaning the touch screen please use a clean, lint-free cloth with a spray bottle of water; 91- percent isopropyl alcohol wipes are also suitable. It is important not to spray any fluid directly on the glass; spray the cloth first then wipe the screen. If you have difficulty with your touch screen or the display is blank, first check to make sure that your terminal is powered on. When the terminal has been idle for several minutes, the screen will go black; this is your screen saver. All you have to do is touch the screen or scan a ticket to ‘wake it up’. If you are still having trouble you must call the IGT Hotline so that they can attempt to diagnose the problem. If the problem cannot be resolved over the phone, a technician will be sent to provide service. I know that you probably want to start touching your screen and I will give you an opportunity to do so in just a few minutes. Next let’s take a look at the Reader. The reader is for playslips and validating draw game tickets. Scratch tickets should never be scanned through the reader. Playslips can be entered either vertically or horizontally (hold in hand for demo) but the play area has to be facing you.
