The plant in ques- tion had been collected without fl ow- ers by Carlos and his brother Mauricio along a hiking trail near El Valle in the Province of Merida in 2015. This partic- ular trail leads to an abandoned cab- in, which in the past was used as a retreat for priests. The trail is part of a Camino Real that connects Merida with Lake Maracaibo. The hybrid was growing in an area where Odm. odor- atum Lindl., and Odm. schillerianum Rchb.f. were abundant. Odontoglos- sum odoratum occurs at an altitude of 2,000 to 2,800 meter and Odm. schil- lerianum from 2,600 to 3,200 meter. The two species therefore have an in- termediate area where they meet and hybridization can occur. Ninety-six species, representing 8.9% of those analysed, had δ 13C values less EDI_HeadA=EDI_HeadB=EDI_HeadA=EDI_HeadB/HeadA negative than −20‰, indicating CAM.

Representativeness of the collections Científico ‘Ex Situ’ of the Orchidaceae family between Andean Forest and Paramo in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia Karen Sofia Gil: Ecologist, Young researcher, Sciences Faculty, Pontificia Javeriana University, Bogotá. Mail: [email protected] Jorge Jacome Phd.: Assistant professor, Biology Department, Ecology and Systematics Unit, Pontificia Javeriana University, Bogotá. Mail: [email protected] Abstract: In Colombia, orchids are mainly concentrated in the Andean Re- gion. In Cundinamarca, the most densely populated department and the most deforested in the country, it was identified a network of actors involved in ex situ collections management and in conservation of orchids. It was performed a preliminary list of taxa of Orchidaceae family located in an al- titudinal range of 1800 to 3900 meters in Cundinamarca, and registered in the most important herbariums of the department, as a tool to capture quantitative information. The representativeness of the Orchidaceae family is determined by genera of the most striking orchids with potential for com- mercialization, including Cyrtochilum, Epidendrum, Masdevallia, Odontoglos- sum and Pleurothallis. The 60% of the species of andean forest and paramo in Cundinamarca are represented in private collections, and 20% in public ones in the Botanical Garden of Bogota Jose Celestino Mutis. According to the research, it should meet the need to increase the representativeness of the groups Orchidaceae department, out of preference for ornamentals and extend database of threatened species in cultivation to benefit seed produc- tion and ex situ conservation programs. ARTICLES Mediterranean Botany ISSNe 2603-9109 https://dx.doi.org/10.5209/mbot.67589 Determination of sites of special importance for the conservation of threatened Orchid species in Colombia Daniela Alba-Patiño1 , Fabián Martínez-Hernández1 & Juan Francisco Mota Poveda1 Received: 6 February 2020 /Accepted: 24 November 2020 / Published online: 14 May 2021 Abstract. Colombia is the country with the highest number of orchid species (4270), whose optimal habitat is cold and humid forests. However, the outlook for conservation is alarming, considering that deforestation is causing the loss of millions of hectares of forests. This situation has led to the existence of 206 endangered orchid species. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine Sites of Special Importance for the Conservation of Threatened Orchid Species in Colombia (SSICO), through an analysis of their spatial and altitudinal distribution using various databases, to make a selection of nature reserves on a municipality scale, using Marxan software, and employing relevant parameters (richness, rarity, and IUCN category). Furthermore, the results were later compared with the Protected Areas System, determining their coverage to propose SSICOs. 674 records of the presence of threatened orchids in 277 municipalities were obtained. Urrao, Abrego, and Frontino were the areas with the greatest richness and rarity. Marxan selected 47 municipalities located mostly in the Andes region, and four SSICOs were prioritized, which are located in the Antioquia, Norte de Santander, Nariño and Putumayo provinces. These SSICOs, in addition to being points of great biodiversity, are areas with special socio-economic characteristics that influence the management of natural resources. These areas require timely attention, research, and intervention by environmental authorities because of their importance for conserving orchids and Andes Forests.

Abstract A comparative analysis of four populations of Odontoglossum crispum Lindl. are made. Four plants representing the range of variation found at each locality were chosen for study: Velez, Santander; Cabrera, Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca; Villa Gomez, Pacho, Cundinamarca; San Francisco, Putumayo. Introduction Chase et al. (2008) state regarding the genus Odontoglossum Kunth: “we favor fewer, larger genera (“lumping”), which we believe is easier for users of a system of classification to manage and use. Narrowly circumscribed genera, regardless of how homogenous, result in a system that only specialists can readily and effectively use.” Therefore, Chase et al. (2008) “lumped” many of the species recognized in the genus Odontoglossum into the genus Oncidium Sw. Kew (WCSP, 2008) supports this lumping of species of Odontoglossum into the genus Oncidium. Odontoglossum crispum Lindl. was transferred to the genus Oncidium by Chase et al. (2008). The epithet was occupied by Oncidium crispum Lodd. The later synonym, Odontoglossum alexandrae Bateman was applied to the species. The name accepted by KEW (WCSP, 2008) is Oncidium alexandrae (Bateman) Chase & Williams. We find the comments of Dalström (2012) on this subject relative: “When Chase and others transferred orchid genera Cochlioda Lindl., Odontoglossum Kunth, Sigmatostalix Rchb.
