Lunchtime Talk: Alternative Careers for Law Graduates: Consulting Brief Synopsis: Join us in this session as our guest speakers, David Wijeratne and Andrea Loh share their personal career/journeys. David and Andrea will talk about a day in the life of a consultant, what qualities they look for in a hire and how you might be able to apply your legal toolkit/skills in a consulting role. The team is comprised of subject matter experts from specific sectors as well as those with Strategy, Operations and Deals expertise. David has over 17 years global experience in Management Consulting, Sales and Marketing, having previously worked with leading firms such as ICI and Accenture, before joining PwC. His international experience includes several years living in Japan, Europe, Middle East, India and most recently Singapore where he supported companies from a variety of sectors, including Industrial Products, Retail & Consumer, Telecoms and Electronics. During this time he has supported multi-nationals and mid-sized companies from both developed and growth markets overcome strategic and operational growth issues, including market entry strategies and assessments, partner identification, operating model design, channel management, corporate finance and customer experience. Over the last 3 years David has spent considerable time advising companies as to how they can profitably participate in China’s Belt and Road Initiative and grow successfully across ASEAN. He has advised both corporate and government agencies, as to the opportunities to participate in the BRI, identify suitable BRI engagements and partner successfully with Chinese SOEs. David currently sits on the World Economic Forum’s ASEAN Council and regularly presents and moderates sessions on ASEAN growth at WEF summits and events. David and his team publish regular reports and points of view about the growth markets, including the PwC annual growth markets’ report, which can be accessed via www.pwc.com/gmc Andrea Loh Senior Associate Consultant, Bain & Company, Singapore Andrea is a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company, with primary focus on private equity, corporate strategy, and organizational & digital transformation across industries. A graduate of National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law, Andrea practiced commercial litigation at Harry Elias Partnership, then emerged as the runner-up under AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes in The Apprentice Asia in 2013. She joined a mobile technology start-up in India for 2 years (including a stint in South Africa), before returning to Singapore and entering the consulting world. She regularly shares her experiences on progressing through a non-linear career path. .
