£1.00 Thames Motor Group Thames Slough 470 BATH ROAD, SLOUGH, BERKS, SL1 6BB TEL: 01753 788000 www.thamesmotorgroup.co.uk Welcome to Stag Meadow Windsor F.C. v Highmoor Ibis Saturday 14th October 2017 Kick Off 3:00pm Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Stag Meadow for today’s Hellenic League Premier Division match against Highmoor Ibis. I extend a warm welcome to our visitors from Reading and trust all have had a decent journey along the M4. I offer that welcome to our matchday officials also, and hope Messrs Jacobs, Middleton & Kaya enjoy the couple of hours they have with us in The Great Park. We face Highmoor only seven days after our previous meeting. The hope is we have learnt from any mistakes made and can improve on our 2-0 victory at the Rivermoor. It would make for a better match if both teams could finish the game with 11 players each! After today we go on the road and by the time we get back here to Stag Meadow the Christmas lights will be up in Peascod Street! There are far too many away games to give you all the travel information, so today’s issue has details on Tuesday nights visit to Abingdon only. For info on the remainder of away matches in October, keep your eye on the football club Twitter page @windsorfc Enjoy today’s game and don’t be afraid to jump in the car and follow the boys on the road. Matt Page 1 – www.thamesmotorgroup.co.uk View from the Bench Our last two home games have been disappointing in relation to zero points and no goals scored. Points dropped at home are a bitter pill to swallow, but we only have ourselves to blame. If we start with the Longlevens game, I think that their collective desire to win the match was bigger than ours and, for me, the manner of the defeat was the most disappointing aspect. We can look at the amount of possession that we had but we never really threatened their keeper, chances were difficult to come by throughout the 90 minutes and we should have defended our goal better when asked to. What was evident throughout the two home games was the standard of refereeing. The guy in the middle against Longlevens was below par, and the guy who took charge of the Royal Wootton Bassett match was simply awful. I cannot understand some of the decisions that we have witnessed, none more so than the sending off for Barry! The referee should be embarrassed by his decision making and his inability to read the style of all the players on the pitch. I understand that we all have off days, but are the individuals fit for purpose in the first place? Still, we will continue to take our medicine and stride on . It was important to get back to winning ways quickly after the two losses and the visit to Highmoor Ibis presented us with that opportunity. The only objective was to win the game, and we were prepared for extra time and penalties, if required, as long as we left there with the win. The guys stuck together and produced a gritty and very determined 90 minutes. Scoring two goals of high quality delighted me, and the clean sheet was pleasing. As for the game itself, it was an ugly affair with no rhythm, it carried an unhealthy atmosphere throughout, and, for the time being, I am going to leave it there … This coming Saturday is all about the 3 points, we have lost our last 3 league games and it’s vital that we start collecting the points to get us back within the chasing pack. This league is not easy and we will need to be fully focused and prepared for the battle ahead. Once again our support was excellent away from home, keep it up guys please! It's been banded around in football over recent years. The FA have rolled out initiatives, programmes and campaigns. We've all seen the shirt sleeve logos and centre circle banners? Respect comes in many forms though, and I'm arguing that the Football Association themselves are showing little or no respect to clubs at our current level (you could probably pull the level above into that). Our league fixtures were announced less than 10 days before the scheduled start of the season. Less than 10 days. Think about that. The phrase "If you fail to prepare then prepare to fail" comes to mind. Since the fixtures were given to our club secretary I must have seen at least three amendments to the fixture list. I spotted league fixtures on consecutive days in December and we currently will play one team on consecutive weekends - home and away. That'll be down to the speed at which the league themselves feel they have to put a fixture list together, not having had time to check, re-check and consult. The league season finishes around the first weekend in May...if clubs are appealing points deductions or ground issues (which tends to be the reasoning behind league constitution delays) after that weekend then the system has failed. The Football Association needs to show some respect and allow clubs such as ours time to prepare for a season. Fixture lists, posters, season tickets and programmes all need time to prepare and print. The less time given, the more cost and inconvenience incurred. It's simply unfair and unnecessary. Page 1 – www.thamesmotorgroup.co.uk Local Club Round-Up Slough Town came from a goal behind to record another win in the Southern League Premier Division on Saturday. Brad Watkins scored the 80th minute winner at Arbor Park. Slough return to second place in the league. Dean Allen scored two late goals for Flackwell Heath in a spirited 3-3 draw at title chasing Thatcham Town. Dan Rapley had put Flackwell ahead before Thatcham raced into a 3-1 lead. Marlow were in league cup action and were forced to replay the game on Tuesday evening (10th) following a 0-0 last Saturday with Aveley. Holyport lost 2-0 at home to Penn & Tylers with Jamie West scoring twice for the visitors. P&T are top of the Division (One East) having played nine matches. Burnham were bundled out of the Hellenic League Cup by Thame Rangers. The blues losing 1-0 at the Gore. Maidenhead United collected another point in The National League. In a topsy-turvy match, Maidenhead thought they’d done enough to claim all three points against Aldershot when Harry Pritchard smashed home a penalty late on in front of a crowd of just under two and half thousand. However the visitors nicked an equalizer in the dying seconds. Final score 3-3. Bracknell Town completed a quick Hellenic League double over Oxford City Nomads by following up their 5-0 home win on Saturday with a 5-1 triumph in the return fixture. But, what are the best footie TV Adverts you’ve ever seen though? Here are just a few to tickle the taste buds and stimulate the memory bank! John Smith’s “Have It” This John Smith's classic featuring Peter Kay gave children who couldn't do kick ups a wonderful excuse to have a laugh at everyone else's expense as the iconic "Have It" catchphrase sounded out in playgrounds up and down the country. And the lazy sods never went to get the ball back. Damn you, Kay! Nike “Good versus Evil” A bit like a footballing version of Space Jam except with less Bill Murray and more evil. Wait till the end to hear Eric Cantona deliver the ultimate football ad one- liner. Page 6 – www.thamesmotorgroup.co.uk TV Ads – History of Football Waddle, Southgate & Pearce “Pizza Hut” England penalty failures Stuart Pearce, Chris Waddle and Gareth Southgate find that receiving large sums of money to look stupid is actually quite cathartic. Pearce's antithesis-of-RADA voice is the star of this commercial. Green Cross Code “Keegan” A 70’s flamboyantly-dressed King Kev takes us back to a bygone age in which men could shout angrily at young boys before putting a tender arm around them and not have to worry about being arrested for either action. Brian Clough & Peter Shilton “Shredded Wheat” If ever there was a football man who looked a natural in front of the cameras, it was Brian Clough. Here he sells Shredded Wheat with the aid of his old goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who is tellingly not trusted to deliver a single line.
