examines the effectiveness of the Internet as a means of youth evangelisation The project is divided into two mam parts (1) The establishment of a theoretical base relating to the concept of evangelisation, the Internet as a means of social communication and youth culture (11) The design, implementation and analysis of a cohort of case studies to test a research question based on the theoretical perspectives Following a general introduction (Ch 1), the chapter on evangelisation (Ch 2) defines the concept and examines its development The Internet as a means of social communication is considered in chapter 3, preceded by an overview of broader models of communication of relevance to web 2 0 In chapter 4 various aspects of contemporary global youth culture are considered in the context of web 2 0 The second part of the study - the fieldwork, covered in Chapters 5-7, is based on the design and activation of an online portal (Cybersouls) The mam research question was to test the efficacy of the online mentoring of young people by Faith Fnends (FFs) intended to deepen their understanding, appreciation and appropriation of their faith tradition This was facilitated through mutual online interaction in the context of religious education material presented in digital Scrolls Mixed methods were adopted m the analytical process In-depth qualitative analysis of data (using NVivo) was undertaken relating to a sample of cases selected by survey sampling and usage sampling techniques The key research findings are (l) Effective mentonng by a Faithfnend enhances the potential of the web 2 0 environment for youth evangelisation Such effective mentonng depends on careful selection and training of Faithfnends, particularly their proficiency m ICT skills, youth culture and knowledge of the faith tradition (11) A collaborative and constructivist model of using the Internet underpins an effective approach to evangelisation with young people (111) Making use of the full potential of web 2 0, the proficiency of multimedia and social networking enhances the effectiveness of evangelisation (i v ) The efficacy of an online environment of evangelisation is dependent on the calibre of the offline resources and organisational capacities that are utilised VI Acknowledgements I wish to express my gratitude to everybody who offered me assistance in various     A new era of group endeavours * DR. GUZMAN M. CARRIQUIRY LECOUR About 20 years ago, His Holiness John Paul II indicated in the post-synodal exhortation Christifideles Laici, the emergence of a “new era of group endeavours” in the universal Church, where “alongside the traditional forming of associations, and at times coming from their very roots, movements and new sodalities have sprouted”1, as a sign of the “richness and the versatility of resources that the Holy Spirit nourishes in the ecclesial community”2 and the laity’s capacity for generosity and initiative. In fact, Divine Providence enriched the life of the Church with the blossoming of many charisms, which were the source of these new movements and ecclesial communities, according to their diverse educational methods, forms of community and missionary momentum. His Holiness John Paul II saw in them “one of the most significant fruits of that springtime in the Church which was foretold by the Second Vatican Council, but unfortunately has often been hampered by the spread of secularization”3, a cause for hope for the Church and mankind. In fact, both His Holiness John Paul II and His Holiness Benedict XVI consider these new ecclesial realities to be “providential”, that is, signs of the fruits of God’s designs for this historic time. Therefore, both Popes, welcomed, praised, recognised and encouraged these new movements and communities, convinced that they– and both Popes have reiterated this – “represent a secure newness, which is still waiting to be properly understood in light of its positive efficacy for the Kingdom of God at work in the present moment of history”.4 The bishops of the great continent of Asia have known how to gather and welcome this newness, in communion with the teaching of the recent Popes.

    YOUNG VOICES ON CLIMATE JUSTICE THE EUROPEAN YOUTH & CLIMATE JUSTICE REPORT 2020, PRESENTED BY GENERATION CLIMATE EUROPE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY For this report we have collected the opinions and ideas of young people on climate justice from across Europe. They hail from highly diverse backgrounds. Some live in their home countries. Some have left to live abroad. They are pupils and students, apprentices and young professionals. Some are active in youth organizations, some are out in the streets supporting the climate strikes, while others do not belong to any particular movement or organisation. Some are active at their university, some in a union, some at their local parish and some in environmental NGOs. Yet, they all are united by their vision of a sustainable and just Europe. Our consultations indicate that young people are guided by values like responsibility, solidarity and community. Young people in Europe fear the consequences of the climate crisis and are concerned by the current lack of ambition and the missing sense of urgency. At the same time, Europe’s youth thinks big and wants us all to act together to solve the climate crisis, with everybody doing their fair share. This young generation has a particular sensitivity for questions of social justice. The respondents to our consultation, thus, recognized a series of barriers hindering a transition to a sustainable society and an economy that is comprehensive, fast and just at the same time. For many young people it is difficult to live a green and just life. The European Union and its member states need to provide the necessary conditions making a sustainable as well as high- quality diet, clothing, mobility, energy supply and housing available and accessible to all, regardless of their socio-economic background.
