Nå som vi går igang med et nytt år, en ny sesong og en ny årgang av Norsk Golf, tenker jeg det er en fin anledning å la seg inspirere av Knut Haavik. En gigant i norsk presse- historie som også har betydd mye for Norsk Golf som publikasjon, men også for golfspor- ten i Norge generelt. En gigant som dessverre gikk bort den 8. februar i år. Knut var en historieforteller, en som hadde øye for det som fenget folk, og en som hadde Ikke stabilisert bilde glimt i det øyet. Og selv om tidene forandrer seg kontinuerlig, og mediehverdagen vår ser helt anner- m ledes ut enn det den gjorde da Knut Haavik var redaktør på begynnelsen av 2000-tallet, er det én ting som aldri endrer seg. Verdien av den gode historien. Norsk Golf består av en liten redaksjon. Vi er bare en håndfull ansatte, og Norge er et digert, langstrakt og uoversiktlig land. Men vi vet at det finnes noen utrolige historier der ute som venter på å bli fortalt. Og for at vi skal kunne fortelle dem, må vi få vite at de er der. Det er kanskje lett å tenke at «dette har Norsk Golf helt sikkert hørt om», og så lar dere være å sende oss den mailen eller ta den telefonen. Men sannsynligvis vet vi ikke det du vet. Og dermed går både vi og leserne våre glipp av den gode historien, de små anekdotene, det som er Golf-Norge. Tidligere redaktør i Norsk Golf, Jan E. Espelid, har skrevet minnord om Knut Haavik i denne utgaven. Der står det blant annet «Knut Haavik var en sjef som trodde på den åpne kontordørs politikk». Da vil jeg gjerne si at kontordøren er fremdeles åpen. Ingen tips er uvelkomne, ingen fortellinger og historier fra vårt herlige, rare, kronglete, nydelige golfrike er for sære, merkelige eller underlige til at de kan sendes til oss.     TM Venice: The Artistic Spirit of Jackson Pollack and Peggy Guggenheim By Larry Bridwell Jackson Pollack, the great pioneer of abstract expressionism, was a struggling carpenter until the avant-garde Peggy Guggenheim discovered him and made his paintings famous. Following her death in 1979, her Grand Canal palazzo became a museum, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Her personal selection of 20th-Century abstract and surreal art can be viewed only in Venice, because her will stipulated that the collection can never be shown outside the museum. In the sculpture garden after noon church bells, a docent gives a brilliant lecture about Guggenheim's life and places the museum in the context of her fascinating experiences in New York, London, Paris and Venice. Visitors learn that when she was only eleven, her father died on the Titanic after helping other passengers survive. She carried on the family tradition of bravery during World War II in France, when she helped many artists escape from the Nazis. Her collection also has an intimate dimension: several paintings are by her lovers, including Pollack. One of the most controversial areas of art is abstract expressionism, because paintings of this style often lack traditional representations of people or settings. A common, cynical perception is that the artist is a child engaged in helter-skelter finger-painting. But in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, five Pollack paintings offer an unusual insight into the subconscious expression of abstract art. “The Moon Woman” is a colorful and multifaceted depiction of female spirituality, probably reflecting the Native American heritage of Pollack's Wyoming birthplace.
