Bu yıl da programımızda her yıl olduğu gibi yine kurmaca filmler ağırlıkta. Bunun nedeni kısa film yönetmenlerinin kurmaca filme daha fazla ilgi göstermesinden kaynaklanıyor. Bunu doğal karşılamak gerekir. Çünkü hemen hemen her kısa film yönetmeninin rüyalarını bir gün uzun metraj çekebilme düşleri süslüyor. Programımızın bir bölümü ayrımcılığa ve ırkçılığa karşı yapılmış kısa filmlerden oluşuyor. Aile içi sorunların irdelendiği, yalnızlık ve kaosun sorgulandığı filmlerin yanı sıra, fantastik öğeler taşıyan, gerilim üzerine kurulmuş filmler de dikkat çekiyor. Canlandırma filmler hareketli görüntüleri, renkli dünyaları ile bizlere yaşama sevinci katmayı sürdürüyor. Belgesel filmler toplumumuza ve çevremize daha sorumlu bir gözle bakmamız için bizleri uyarırken, deneysel çalışmalar sinemanın yaratım koşullarına yeni boyutlar katmayı deniyor. Yurt dışından gelen filmlerin ön elemesini yaparken, bir kez daha ulusal kısa filmlerimizin ne denli zor koşullarda üretildiğine, nitelik olarak ne denli sıkıntı yaşadığına bir kez daha tanık olduk. Kısa metraj filmlerin, uzun metraj filmler gibi bir sanat eseri olduğuna, gösterim ve dağıtım haklarının korunması gerektiğine, ne kendimizi ne de bu işlerden sorumlu olanları inandırabildik. Ne zaman ki ülkemizde kısa metraj filmler de“işletme belgesi” alarak hem varlığını resmen onaylatır hem de eser sahibi haklarını garanti altına alır, işte o zaman ülkemizde gerçek anlamda kısa film sanatının varlığından söz edebiliriz. Yoksa, yıllar da geçse ülkemizde kısa filmler “babanın parası, arkadaşın kamerası, komşunu arabası” ile çekilmeye devam eden salt amatör filmler düzeyinde varolmaya devam eder. Uluslararası arenada sesimiz ancak ve ancak sadece cılız bir yansıma bulabilir. Bu yıl da festivalimize dünyanın dört bir köşesinden yüzlerce film geldi. Ne mutlu ki internet denen bir altyapı var. Bizler bu sayede festivalimizi, adı aklımıza dahi gelemeyecek ülkelere kadar duyurabiliyoruz. Onların katılımını sağlayabiliyoruz. Genç yönetmenlerimizin, özellikle yurt dışından gelen yabancı yönetmenlerle tanışmaları, onlarla dostluk kurmaları en büyük hedeflerimizden birisi. Bu birliktelik hem onların yurt dışına açılmaları için bir olanak yaratacak, hem de ortak yapımların gerçekleşmesine ortam hazırlayacak. Tüm konuk yönetmenler filmlerinin gösteriminde olacaklar ve söyleşilere katılacaklar Film gösterimleri ve söyleşilerin yanı sıra, genç sanatçılarımızdan Ruhi Sarı bizlere, kısa filmler için her zaman en önemli sorunlardan birini oluşturan “oyunculuk” konusunda uygulamalı bir atölye çalışması hazırladı. Festivalimize gösterdiğiniz ilgiye teşekkür eder, hepinize iyi seyirlikler dileriz. Hilmi Etikan ENJOY THE PLEASURE OF DISCOVERING FAMOUS DIRECTORS OF FUTURE, TODAY We are off to the start of yet another festival. Like always, this year’s program consists mainly of fiction features. For short film directors are more interested in fiction. Which is natural since almost all short film directors dream of making a feature movie one day. Part of our program is dedicated to short films against discrimination and racism. Family problems, questioning loneliness and chaos as well as fantastic elements and suspense are some themes to draw attention. Animations continue spreading joy with their brisk images and colorful worlds. Documentaries warn us to see our society and environment with a more responsible point of view while experimental works try to extend new dimensions to the creation circumstances of film making. During the pre-screening process of films submitted from abroad, we recognized the production difficulties and qualitative problems encountered by the makers of our national short films. We failed to convince authorities, even ourselves, that short films, like feature films are works of art for which the screening and distribution rights need to be reserved. Only after short films, too are granted “operation license” thus their existence is legally certified and the rights of artist are guaranteed; only then we can say the art of short film is truly exercised in Turkey. Otherwise short films would not go beyond being amateur works made with “father’s money, friend’s camera, neighbor’s car” for long years to come. And thus our voice cannot go beyond a weak and tottery whisper in the international arena. This year too, hundreds of films are submitted to our festival from all around the world. Thanks to Internet. Through it, we can make our festival heard in countries for which we cannot even recall the names of. And also make them participate. One of our main goals is to help our young directors meet and make friends especially with foreign directors from abroad. This interaction will create opportunities for them to reach abroad as well as paving the way for co-productions. All guest directors will be at the screenings of their films and will participate in conversations. In addition to the screenings and conversations, a young Turkish artist, Ruhi Sarı, has prepared an applied workshop for us which would focus on one of the most important issues of short films; “acting”. We like to thank for your interest in our festival and wish you all to enjoy it.     Journal of Global Theatre History ISSN: 2509-6990 Vol. 4, No. 2, 2020 Hasibe Kalkan On the Role of the Rockefeller Foundation in Establishing Theatre Education Programmes and Transnational Theatrical Spaces in Turkey during the Cold War Abstract This article focuses on the American impact and, in particular, that of the Rockefeller Foundation on the theatre landscape of Turkey, especially on its educational programmes. In the years of the Cold War, Turkey played a strategic role for the United States. In order to establish an ideological base against the nearby Soviet Union, the Rockefeller Foundation was used to build up and fund a network of artists and academics, which included theatre professionals and academics in Turkey. The article also attempts to show the transnational spaces that have emerged for some artists as a result of the opening to the US. Keywords Cold War, Rockefeller Foundation, Theatre Education, Theatre Studies, Playwrighting Author Hasibe Kalkan teaches at the Department of Theatre Studies at Istanbul University and heads the Department of Dramaturgy and Playwriting. Her research interests include documentary theatre, intercultural theatre, and theatre semiotics. Kalkan has worked as a dramaturge at the Istanbul State Theatre and writes theatre reviews for various daily newspapers and magazines. Introduction The foundation of theatre education programmes in Turkey was clearly shaped by the modernization and Europeanization process in the country following the founding of the Turkish Republic in 1923. However, it must be remembered that the move towards the West had begun much earlier. The leadership of the late Ottoman Empire, beginning in the 18th century, turned to the West to adopt military and, later, technocratic achievements in order to halt its steady decline and return the empire to its former strength.

And for this very reason, music, like many other disciplines, has only found the opportunity to shake this status quo and make somewhat novel breakthroughs with the –at times overtly vulgar—moves of Modernism. When we avoid reducing design to merely physical mediums and place emphasis also on its intellectual context, its abstract predicates—ranging from method to model, from imagination to the “artwork”—it would not be misguided to assert that music has been subject to a process which has gained momentum especially with the Republic, while its most primal moves can only be deciphered in the Tanzimat reform era, and that its reflections—products—have gained visibility again along the axis of this process.

Also, it aims to reveal what awaits teachers in the school environment and the current experiences of teachers at the beginning of the profession. Case study design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 34 social studies teachers working in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (Turkey) in the districts of Ankara. Participants were selected on an equal basis from all districts of Ankara province. Purposeful sampling, one of the non-random sampling methods was used in determining participants. In addition, criterion sampling was also used in the purposeful sampling phase. The obtained data were subjected to the content and descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, following the latest changes and developments and developing their basic knowledge and skills seems important for teachers who started their profession in the public sector. The multidisciplinary of the social studies branch, attractivity, and the fact that there are no alternatives comes to the fore in teachers' decision-making process to become social studies teachers.
