  • The Knife Music Snobs Inc
The Knife Music Snobs Inc. A collection of expert witnesses making sweeping generalizations about the scene. Facebook Talk to The Knife A few years ago in a dimly lit living room in Bangalore, amid an assembly of projectors and new friends late at night, Rahul Giri would meet Tanvi Rao. Lounge Piranha guitarist Abhijeet Tambe would host these mini house parties, periodically throwing into a room an abundance of burgeoning talent, and they subconsciously became the messingaround ground for a subscene. Vocalists met producers met writers met opera singers, and into the early hours of the morning, collaborations would appear and disappear, occasionally leaving behind something that would last far longer. Those nebulous evenings caused the intermingling of some of the most spectacular music in the country illustrated alt rock from Lounge Piranha, volatile operaticpop from Sridhar/Thayil, fragments of future psychedelic bands, and the evaporative electronica of Sulk Station. Till You Appear is mellowdramatic/downtempo act Sulk Station’s long awaited debut, a sweeping fifty minutes of rainwashed music that slowly drips bluegrey all over your surroundings. It’s been on loop since its release four days ago, we’re all waiting to get sick of it, but it just isn’t happening. Giri has built an ominous castle of echoes to surround Rao’s glassy vocals, a crystalline presage. With its recurring themes of lostness, Till You Appear soundtracks an unhurried yet frantic timelapse of a life spent in yearning. By virtue of its own distinct sound, different music exists at different altitudes; rock and roll was always closer home and earthly, dirty when at its best.

Massive Attack came out of eight years of work in sound systems, and had a strong Caribbean identity. It was really awkward. Alain Badiou is undoubtedly the most exciting and influential voice in contemporary French philosophy and one of the most important theorists at work today. He could make his organ just go from barely audible to absolutely take your head off. You played the really wobbly bass stuff, which is the majority of it. And in Gibbons it offered a bleak, twisted and completely novel vision of what a blues singer could be. Utley: I think that's really super cool. The track opens with nearly a full minute of dark, spacious chords ringing out from a Fender Rhodes electric piano through a Fender Twin , with the bass cranked with the onboard tremolo cranked to deliver the pulsing vibe that gives the song its underlying rhythm. You've worked out the weird kind of chords that she had. Continue on UK site. They said that the snare drum sounds like a tin can. People must have told you they use this music for all kinds of situations.

  • Famous Sounds
14/04/2015 Famous Sounds Famous Sounds "Famous sounds" are sounds that have been created or used by somebody, liked and then copied by many others, and thus earned a "classic" status. I'd like to open this section of Synth Mania utilizing as a starting point portions of an article appeared in the October 1995 issue of Keyboard magazine, titled "20 Sounds That Must Die", in which the author David Battino analyzes many sounds that have, over the years, been used, re used and abused again. I added audio examples to the list for those who might not be familiar with those sounds. From there, I'll start adding my own examples of more sounds, including loops. When possible, audio examples are available. Keyboard magazine List: Audio SOUND NAME DESCRIPTION example 1. The square/triangle wave solo This flutey, highly synthetic lead sound sure stands out, but already belongs to someone. Still, add portamento and maybe you'll get Lucky Man lucky, man. (Note: the author is referring to the song "Lucky Man", by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Emerson's Moog solo is regarded as the first rock synthesizer solo in history) 2. The sampleandholdtopitch computer processing effect "Professor, why don't you ask the computer?" Beepoobeebeeboo Processing poobahpah... has anyone ever really heard a computer make this noise? (Note: I used an Alesis airSynth for this sound.) 3. Rez zaps Feed white noise through a rapidly closing VCF with the resonance cranked. Kraftwerk did. And now most every techno band does.

No longer is it simple to assign a song to just jazz, classical, or rock. Almost every day, a new genre is invented (Söderman 2004). So how does one go about making sense of this every-expanding soundscape? Well, in order to truly comprehend a genre of music, one must do a deep dive into its history and one must look to understand its predecessors. For example, one must study the blues and gospel music to fully understand rock. Likewise, anyone would gain a lot out of examining the sounds of Detroit Techno and Chicago House before attempting to write a dubstep song. In order to understand some of my favorite genres of music like trip-hop and bedroom pop, I studied their ancestors: ambient music and hip-hop. Yes, these two genres are different in many ways, but they overlap in modern music quite often and they have quite a few similarities.

  • Music in Liquid Forms: a Framework for the Creation of Reactive Music
Music in Liquid Forms: A Framework for the Creation of Reactive Music Recordings Submitted for Doctor of Philosophy in Music 2018 Keith Hennigan Supervisors: Martin Adams & Simon Trezise Declaration I hereby declare that this thesis is entirely my own work; no part of it has been submitted as an exercise for a degree at this, or any other, University. I agree that the library of Trinity College Dublin may lend or copy this thesis upon request. Signed ____________________ (Keith Hennigan) Date ____________________ (July 2018) Summary The aim of this thesis is to research and propose possible methods and models for the creation and dissemination of what shall be defined as liquid music recordings. This will result in the establishment of a sound theoretical basis for the creation of such works, with practical demonstrations provided to showcase the proposed approach and methodology. It was initially intended that this thesis would focus on the creation of one liquid music authoring system or standard. However, after researching the field, it is apparent that the creation of a single liquid system or format is of little import or benefit. A number of previous efforts have been made, each offering only one viewpoint on the compositional paradigm of liquid music and necessarily limited in some way. What is needed for the field is a broader overview. For example, the proposition of the BRONZE format (see Chapter Three) as a new format for music, though laudable, falls short due to the nature of the work: offering only a single inherent style of generative music, this programming imparts a limited aesthetic onto any musical work written for it.
