MARGHERITA’S REPORT!!

LET’S TALK ABOUT HIGH SCHOOLS!

Last friday three students of two famous High Schools in Udine came to our : Anna is a student at “Liceo Classico Stellini” and Agata and Claudia are students at “Liceo Classico Europeo Uccellis”.

Agata lives in Udine; she has a sister, Teresa, who is attending the third year at our school, in Pagnacco, and a brother, Stefano, who is attending the fourth year at “ Marinelli” .

Anna lives in Moruzzo; she has a sister, Maria, who is in our school , in class 3 A.

Claudia lives in Colloredo di Monte Albano; she has a brother, Alberto: he is 20 years old. Last year he attended the fifth and last year at “Liceo Scientifico Malignani”, but now he is in Milan and he is studying at “Polytechnic” University.

Agata usually goes to school by bike, Anna by coach and Claudia goes to school by car (her mum or her dad usually take her to school).

We asked them questions about their schools, for an hour.

Agata and Claudia said the same things, because they are in the same class!

Anna said that at “Liceo Classico Stellini” lessons start at eight a.m. and finish at one p.m. She also said that in her school they are obliged to go to school six days a week and they can’t stay at home on Saturday. In the morning they have just five minutes break.

At “Uccellis” High School, Agata and Claudia stay at school from eight a.m. to six p.m., six days a week, too. Lunch break goes from one p.m. to twenty past two p.m. In the afternoon, the break goes from five to five to five past five.

In Agata and Clauidia’ s class there are 18 students; in Anna’s class there are 19 students. Agata said that when she decided her future high school, she was undecided among “Stellini”, “Uccellis” or “Percoto” High Schools.

She went to “open-days” and she did the stages and only then she decided her high school. When she started school she was very thrilled.

Anna said that she had to make a choice: she was undecided between “Stellini” or “Marinelli”, but finally she chose “Liceo Classico Stellini”.

Anna left Middle School with “ten cum laude”; when she arrived to her new high school, she was excited but also disappointed, because her marks went down…

At “Uccellis” High School, Agata and Claudia are learning three foreign languages: English, German and Chinese.

At “Stellini” High School, Anna is learning three languages - a bit different from each other: English, and Greek.

Agata and Claudia told us that in their school there are some extra- curricular activities: a school orchestra, a school choir, Chinese lessons, Russian and French lessons, sports, theatre in English, chess and English courses; and at the end of the year those students who chose to do English courses are supposed to take a Cambridge exam and a certificate.

Anna said that also at Stellini High School there are some identical extra-curricular activities: there is a school orchestra and a choir and English courses with Cambridge exams. You can also decide to learn German.

Anna said that her teachers don’t give much written homework to their classes, but students have to study a lot!

At Uccellis High, Agata and Claudia’s class has one written test every day!

At Uccellis High, teachers try to make the lessons fun, and not hard and boring because students have to stay at school for ten hours.

Anna said that the marks at Stellini High go from zero to ten.

She also told us that the teachers are pretty old. At “Liceo Classico Stellini” you study to learn for yourself and not to do teachers a favour!!!

Agata said that at Uccellis High you can bring your mobile phone to school; you can put it in the lockers, but nobody keeps it there. …

Anna told us that they can also bring their phone to school, and when the lesson is boring, they write messages to their friends.

At “Uccellis” High, Agata and Claudia do literature in Italian, English and German.

Anna told us that at “Stellini” High, they don’t do much Physical Education.

Claudia said that at “Uccellis” High there aren’t many facilities because her school is an old school.

“Uccellis” High School is like a college… You can stay at school every day, all day long. In the rooms, students can meet. Uccellis High School has different buildings.

“Stellini” High School in an old school, but Anna said that they don’t have a paper register… they have an online register! She said that every teacher has a personal tablet.

Both Agata and Claudia will quite surely go to university at the end of High School, and Anna too.

Agata is going to study abroad, maybe in Germany.

Claudia said that she is going to study something that will allow her to work in the area of medicine, but she’s still uncertain...

Anna doesn’t know what she’s going to do in the future…. but she is quite sure to go to university!

At “Stellini” High students can’t smoke.

Agata and Claudia said that at “Uccellis” High, students and teachers can’t smoke, but sometimes they do.

At “Uccellis” High School people come from foreign countries - for example from Austria. Agata and Claudia told us that their class went to Germany for a week, and to Austria and China for two weeks!

I am enthusiastic of this interview because we have learnt a lot of interesting things about two famous High Schools in Udine!
