We are moving aggressively ahead for the betterment of our great sisterhood, Zeta Tau Omega Chapter and we are proud. We are proud of committees working together. We are proud of our involvement in the community and we are very proud to be your sisters. Upon our return in September, we will have one month to finalize our Cluster One Conference which will be held in West Palm Beach on October 15-16 and our 2010 Fashionetta which will be held October 30, 2010. We solicit your sisterly support in making these two events memorable and successful. In the month of May, our Mother and Daughter Luncheon committee took us to an unimaginable level with a renowned sister, Soror Florence LaRue. Platforms 2 & 3 explored areas of interest to students and parents of Roosevelt Elementary School, as guest speakers shared their expertise. We are proud to have dedicated and committed sorors within our great sisterhood. Dedication and commitment are two gigantic words, which we feel confident, will lead our chapter successfully. We look forward to exploring new ideas, all of your ideas. The implementation of a chapter’s fundraising committee was met with questions. There are no plans to do away with our present events but we feel additional ones will give us a cushion to not only secure funds for our scholarships, but to provide additional funds for our Twenty Pearls and Precious Peals, to provide the ready funds to enhance our programs without accessing each of you other than the national and chapter assessments. As Soror Carol mentioned in February’s edition: “ So, in this month of Love, embrace your Heart Sister, expand your circle of love and be ever mindful that “A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.” (Isadora James). And Soror Charlotte in March , “The fabric of any membership organization is judged by the number, loyalty, and the active involvement of its members”. So I say, Let the work you do speak for you. “ In conclusion, I say together, we can strengthen the success of our great sisterhood for generations of sorors to come. With God, our founders, past and present sorors, I am prayerful that the remaining months will be peaceful, prosperous and pleasurable. Sisterly Love, Soror Maxine Du Pont First Anti Basileus Message It seems like just yesterday that I took my oath as the First Anti-Basileus of the Zeta Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. However, when we think of the activities that our Chapter has engaged in, as well as the activities promulgated by each of the Chapter’s Committees, I realize that it was not just yesterday, but rather several months ago that we began this exciting journey with our Basileus, Soror Maxine Perry DuPont. In fact, during the past five-month period, we had a successful Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade entry, a wonderful Founders’ Day activity and an exceptional Mother-Daughter Luncheon. We additionally made significant changes to our Constitution and By-laws to enable our Chapter to function more productively, and we mastered the art of “going green” with the help of our Technology Committee. The Membership Committee has been busy working toward preparing the Chapter for a possible MIP, and most of our Committees have been actively meeting and making plans for great future events. The Connection and Platform-Related Committees have all been on task, and the Scholarship, Fundraising, Fashionetta and Thelma R. Jones Prayer Breakfast Committees have each developed plans which are “outside-of -the-box” and aimed at taking our Chapter to the next level in sisterliness and community involvement. Finally, the Twenty Pearls and Precious Pearls Committees have outdone themselves by mentoring and developing the young ladies in their care in new and innovative ways. It has been my pleasure serving as your First Anti-Basileus thus far, and I enthusiastically look forward to our continued relationship and journey together as women who love and serve Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Sisterly Love, Soror Carol DeGraffenreidt Second Anti Basileus Message “The Best Way Out is Always Through” by BJ Gallagher Our journey of life is about progress not PERFECTION. It’s not about doing one thing 100%, It’s a matter of dong 100 things 1 % better each day. PROGRESS is EVOLUTIONARY not REVOLUTIONARY and most days we measure our progress in inches not miles. What matters most is showing up for YOUR life, whether you feel like it or not. Ask yourself what two (2) or three (3) things can I do TODAY that will move me forward and you’ll be amazed at how much DISTANCE you can cover by taking it in INCREMENTS. The little things add up; the inches turn to miles; and we string together OUR efforts like so many PEARLS. Before long WE HAVE A WHOLE STRAND. Sisterly Love, Soror Cjarlotte Leonard Developing an unprecedented sisterhood of power and efficiency 2 The Ivy List LETTERS TO THE Maxine …You are doing such a great job as Basileus. I know it is not easy! Soror Charline Curtis “2010 – 2011 Administration has come aboard with positive changes; this year Maxine DuPont has put into effect “Go Green,” as the Supreme Basileus has stressed and also SORORITY MEETING putting old and young sorors together to work. The Executive Board is doing a great job and continuing to keep the Zeta Tau Omega Chapter going strong. “ Soror Ursula Morrow Saturday, June 12, 2010 10:00 PM Dear Editor, 1755 Tiffany Drive, Mangonia Park, FL 33407 Kudos to our basileus, soror Maxine and her executive board. They have moved the sorority into the 21st century by going green with all reports including the monthly agenda, which means if you want a full report from any board member or committee a soror must download it from your computer. Also, I highly approve the timely length of the sorority meetings to one hour or June’s Featured Soror one hour and a half. This allows a soror to participate in other activities on the second Saturday of each month. Keep it up soror Maxine............ Sisterly Love, Soror Peggy Cook Linda Wright Long I love the way this administration runs the meetings. The agenda moves without allowing members to stall or hamper the program. Therefore, meetings are over in a timely manner rather than 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Soror Nadine Sheffield To the Editor of The Pink Press I look forward to receiving my copy of the Pink Press every month. The communications from our chapter chairs, the current events of AKA, the acknowledgement and celebration of birthdays, as well as the monthly quizzes on our history have really kept me well informed and enlightened me tremendously.
