Strive to See In today’s First Reading, the Old Testament priest, Amaziah, ordered the prophet Amos to leave the city. He called Amos a visionary but dismissed him as a dreamy, impractical and false prophet. Biblical history today knows Amos as a true and dedicated prophet, who preached a much-needed message. Yes, Amos was a visionary, as one who looks beyond that status quo and borders to discover better ways to serve God and help people.

Jesus is the ultimate visionary, who superseded the old ways and preached a new way. Jesus defended His Gospel with a thunderous exclamation point by His death on the Cross.

Today, Christians are still called to be visionaries, to daily strive to see what could be and to achieve a more excellent spiritual life. We often hear about the “American Dream,” but visionary thinking is far greater. That vision is found in The Lord’s Prayer: “Thy Kingdom come...on earth, as it is in heaven.” The utmost visionary goal is to behold the

beatific vision. Father James McKarns Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3

Stewardship....Live It! STEWARDSHIP & RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Stewardship: a way of life for our St. Bernadette Parish Family… “Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send

them out two by two” Mark 6: 7

STEWARDSHIP & TRUST IN GOD...

Our readings today remind us to live our lives in total surrender to God’s care. The Gospel recounts when Jesus instructs His twelve apostles to begin their missionary work two by two. He encouraged them to take very little — a walking stick and sandals.

If you can recall a time you packed for a trip, or even left the house for a day’s travel, you might remember making a list or packing days in advance.
