For Immediate Release February 3, 2012 for More Information Contact For Immediate Release For more information contact: February 3, 2012 Brittany Fitzpatrick Communications Coordinator Direct: (901) 312 – 7482 [email protected] The Memphis Community Rallies to Support the 21st Annual Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon MEMPHIS (TN) – With just one week to go until the 21st Annual Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon, members of the Memphis community are lending their voices to support Ronald McDonald House® of Memphis families. Coach Lionel Hollins, Coach Josh Pastner, Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle and Memphis native Michael Oher, and Shanola Hampton from the popular Showtime series Shameless are just a few people who will be calling in to the Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon on Thursday, February 9 and Friday, February 10. The Radiothon will be broadcast on ROCK 103 (102.7FM) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days directly from the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis (535 Alabama Ave.). As the Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon enters its 21st year, more than $7 million have been raised for the “House that love built.” This year’s Radiothon will honor one of its founders – John “Bad Dog” McCormack, who passed away in 2011 exactly one month after hosting his last Radiothon. “Aside from his faith and his family, Ronald McDonald House was the number one thing in his heart. He said to me one night in the hospital that of all the things he’d done in his life, he hoped his legacy would be what he’d done for the kids at Ronald McDonald House. [He knew] what it meant to them to have a place away from home,” said Tim McCormack, Bad Dog’s brother, at Bad Dog Tribute Night on January 31. To continue the Radiothon tradition, Ronald McDonald House of Memphis will offer special incentive items as a thank you to pledging donors, including the coveted Radiothon Jacket, t-shirt and hat. Fifty lucky donors who give $300 or more will receive those items and a limited edition Bad Dog Avenue Street Sign, a commemorative replica of the original street sign that hangs on Alabama Avenue. Radiothon supporters are also invited to bid on hundreds of fantastic items during the ‘Rock the House’ Online Radiothon Auction (begins tonight, Feb 2, at midnight and ends at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb.10). Items can be viewed now at http://bit.ly/RocktheHouseAuction. Anyone can make an online donation to the Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon today by visiting www.rmhc-memphis.org. To make a donation during the Radiothon, please call 1-800-230-KIDS (5437). The 21st Annual Ronald McDonald House® Radiothon is sponsored by the Memphis Fire Fighter’s Association (presenting sponsor); Banes Capital Management; Caesar’s Entertainment; The Daily News; Dr. Pepper; Memphis Motorcycle Club; Monogram Food Solutions; Papa John’s and ServiceMaster. • €˜Shameless’ Thanks Fans for Season 9 Return
‘Shameless’ Thanks Fans for Season 9 Return 06.07.2018 Shameless star Emmy Rossum and other cast members thank fans for their love and support in Showtime's teaser announcing a ninth season of the series. The promo features a nostalgic montage that looks back at key moments from the show. When it returns, political fervor hits the South Side and the Gallaghers take justice into their own hands. Frank (William H. Macy) sees financial opportunity in campaigning and gives voice to the underrepresented South Side working man. Fiona (Rossum) tries to build on her success with her apartment building and takes an expensive gamble hoping to catapult herself into the upper echelon. Meanwhile, Lip (Jeremy Allen White) distracts himself from the challenges of sobriety by taking in Eddie's niece, Xan (Scarlet Spencer). Ian (Cameron Monaghan) faces the consequences of his crimes as the Gay Jesus movement takes a destructive turn. Debbie (Emma Kenney) fights for equal pay and combats harassment; and her efforts lead her to an unexpected realization. Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) sets his sights on West Point and prepares himself for cadet life. Liam (Christian Isaiah) must develop a new skillset to survive outside of his cushy private school walls. Kevin (Steve Howey) and V (Shanola Hampton) juggle the demands of raising the twins with running the Alibi as they attempt to transform the bar into a socially conscious business. Shameless will premiere September 9 at 9 p.m. Immediately afterward at 10 p.m., Showtime will debut new half-hour comedy series Kidding starring Jim Carrey in his first series regular role in more than two decades, and reuniting him with director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

  • Showtime Renews €˜Shameless’ for 11Th and Final Season
Showtime Renews ‘Shameless’ for 11th and Final Season 01.13.2020 Showtime's longest-running series, Shameless, will end after season 11, president of entertainment Gary Levine revealed at TCA winter press tour on Monday. "The characters of Shameless have brought Showtime viewers more laughs and tears and pure enjoyment than any program in our history," Levine said. "While we are sad to bid the Gallaghers farewell, we couldn't be more confident in the ability of showrunner John Wells, his writing team and this great cast to bring our series to its appropriately 'shameless' conclusion." Shameless is part of Showtime's three-and-a-half hours of original scripted programming on Sundays. Season 10, which airs its finale on Sunday, Jan. 26, has averaged 5.7 million weekly viewers across platforms, Showtime revealed. "I'm unbelievably thankful for all of the years of support from Gary Levine and everyone at Showtime that's allowed us to make Shameless," executive producer John Wells said in a statement. "It's been a fantastic experience and all of us in the cast and crew have had a wonderful time following the lives of the Gallagher family and friends." As Shameless come to a close, Showtime is looking toward budding series like The L Word: Generation Q and the Abby McEnany-led Work in Progress, which have been renewed for 10-episode second seasons. Both season one finales are set to air on Jan. 26. "The L Word: Generation Q took our original series that was revered and reinvigorated it for a new generation and a new era," Levine said in a statement.

Using tools and mapping methods from Graphika, a social media intelligence firm, we study more than 10 million tweets from 700,000 Twitter accounts that linked to more than 600 fake and conspiracy news outlets. Crucially, we study fake and con- spiracy news both before and after the election, allowing us to measure how the fake news ecosystem has evolved since November 2016. Much fake news and disinformation is still being spread on Twitter. Consistent with other research, we find more than 6.6 million tweets linking to fake and conspiracy news publishers in the month before the 2016 election. Yet disinformation continues to be a substantial problem postelection, with 4.0 million tweets linking to fake and conspiracy news publishers found in a 30-day period from mid-March to mid-April 2017. Contrary to claims that fake news is a game of “whack-a-mole,” more than 80 percent of the disinformation accounts in our election maps are still active as this report goes to press.

We witness increasing morbidity, delivery systems Accepted: 27 April 2020 that sometimes are on the brink of collapse, and some shameless rent seeking. However, besides all the challenges, ePublished: 2 May 2020 there are also possibilities that are opening up. In this perspective, we focus on lessons from COVID-19 to increase the sustainability of health systems. If we catch the opportunities, the crisis might very well be a policy window for positive reforms. We describe the positive opportunities that the COVID-19 crisis has opened to reduce the sources of waste for our health systems: failures of care delivery, failures of care coordination, overtreatment or low-value care, administrative complexity, pricing failures and fraud and abuse. We argue that current events can canalize some very needy reforms to make our systems more sustainable. As always, political policy windows are temporarily open, and so swift action is needed, otherwise the opportunity will pass and the vested interests will come back to pursue their own agendas. Professionals can play a key role in this as well.
