Pepperdine University Editorial Style Guide INTRODUCTION Editorial Stance Pepperdine University has adopted a unified editorial style for both print and digital media, which principally follows the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) with certain exceptions noted in this guide. Pepperdine style is a “down” style, meaning that capitals are to be used sparingly and intentionally. References to the 17th edition (when applicable) are provided within entries where Pepperdine and Chicago coincide. Ideal Pepperdine style is minimalist yet pragmatic, intended to provide clarity, consistent logic, and elegant structure to its communications, using the least amount of punctuation and type to most effectively and quickly deliver an author’s message to the intended audience. Editorial/Aesthetic License Pepperdine style should give writers and designers a broad range of creative freedom in which to work. Deviations from standard practice in University-branded, flagship publications are permitted only by agreement with Integrated Marketing Communications. These are the words that Quincy Jones pronounced to present the preservation and restoration project of one of the musical monuments from the 20th century, the Montreux Jazz Festival Archives. From Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles to David Bowie or Prince, more than 5,000 hours of concerts have been recorded both in audio and video, since the creation of the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1967, by the visionary Claude Nobs. This collection contains many of the greatest names in middle and mainstream Jazz, including Errol Garner, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson to Herbie Hancock. Most of them composed great number of improvised jam sessions extremely rare. Miles Davis played his last performance, conducted by Quincy Jones in 1991. Many artists, like Marvin Gaye, recorded their first and only performance for television in Montreux. This collection of “live” music recordings, ranging from 1967-2012, with universal significance and intercultural dimensions has no direct equal in the world. This musical library traces a timeline of stylistic influences from the early styles of jazz to the present day. RAUL SEBASTIAN MAYA PIRAZAN COD. 20112098049 ÉNFASIS INSTRUMENTISTA – BAJO ELÉCTRICO DIRECTOR DE TRABAJO DE GRADO: RICARDO BARRERA TACHA MODALIDAD MONOGRAFÍA BOGOTÁ, 27 DE ABRIL DE 2016 RESUMEN Este trabajo de grado se centra en la utilización del pick para ejecutar el bajo eléctrico, adentrándose en los conceptos primarios de esta herramienta como su historia, materiales de fabricación, usos, evolución y papel dentro de la música, para dar paso a un método a base de ejercicios que explican las múltiples ventajas y sonoridades que genera la plumilla en el bajo, abastecidos en gran medida por la adaptación de técnicas de instrumentos de cuerda similares como la guitarra, cerrando así con en análisis e interpretación de obras en el bajo que exponen elementos distintivos de la técnica con pick. Palabras Clave: Pick, bajo eléctrico, interpretación, ejercicios, método, análisis ABSTRACT This degree document is focused in the use of the pick for playing electric bass, getting deeper in concepts of this device such as history, materials used for its fabrication, some common uses, evolution and the role it has had in music. Featuring a method based on exercises that explain multiples advantages and tunes generated by the use of the pick for playing bass, provided by adaptations of techniques from other similar instruments, like the electric guitar, and also presenting the analysis and interpretation of some musical pieces that show distinctive elements of the picking technique.
