"The Anglo-American Threat to Albania (Memoirs of the National
The electronic version of the book is created by http://www.enverhoxha.ru ************************ ENVER HOXHA The Anglo - American Threat to Albania Memoirs of the National Liberation War THE INSTITUTE OF MARXIST-LENINIST STUDIES AT THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE PARTY OF LABOUR OF ALBANIA THE «8 NËNTORI» PUBLISHING HOUSE TIRANA 1982 «THE ANGLO-AMERICAN THREAT TO ALBANIA» is another book in the series of Comrade Enver Hoxha's memoirs from the time of the National Liberation War. It reflects events he lived through, his personal impressions, and gives conclusions, which provide lessons for all periods, drawn from the hostile activity carried out openly or behind the scenes, against our National Liberation Movement, our people's revolution and socialist Albania by the Anglo-American bourgeoisie. It brings out clearly the clash between the diabolical plans, attempts, manoeuvres and concrete activities of Anglo-American imperialism to put Albania under its sway, on the one hand, and the vigilance, the blow for blow struggle of the Communist Party of Albania and its General Secretary, the leader of the Army and the National Liberation Front and the whole patriotic Alba• nian people, Comrade Enver Hoxha, on the other hand, to discover, unmask, defeat and destroy the imperialist strategy and tactics in regard to Albania. These memoirs now being published, were written in 1975. The book is available in Albanian and several foreign languages. 3 I A LITTLE HISTORY Albania — a token for barter for the «Brit- ish Lion». Storytelling As a Spatial Practice in Dhërmi/ Drimades of Southern Albania
Nata{a Gregori~ Bon: Storytelling as a spatial practice in Dhërmi/Drimades of southern Albania Storytelling as a spatial practice in Dhërmi/ Drimades of southern Albania Nata{a Gregori~ Bon Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper leads the reader to paths and places constructed by storytelling, remembrances, and the biographical contexts of the people of Dhërmi/Drimades in southern Albania. By following the people’s movements and networks of connections between the individual places that construct the spatial relations, this paper explores the ‘cartographic optic’ as recounted in the people’s stories. The underlying question is how different meanings of space and place, created by individual stories, construct the ‘whereness’ of Dhërmi/ Drimades and how that ‘whereness’ constructs different meanings of space and place. The paper argues that through remembering their ancestors’ movements and winding the stories around their paths the local people continuously shift the village’s position and its boundaries and in so doing they reconstruct ‘their’ space where they seek to anchor their sense of belonging. This sense of belonging is informed by the notion of the nation-state as a hegemonic concept on the one hand and a sense of distinct locality on the other. Overall the paper presents the people’s conception of space and themselves in it. KEYWORDS: storytelling, spatialising, mapping, reconstructing ‘whereness’, southern Albania. Introduction Our character is similar to our place and its climate. On the one hand it is cold and wild, such as the mountains, while on the other hand it is mild and hospitable, as the sea. -

Toponymy As Macrostructure and Microstructure (Study on the Toponymy of the Himara District)
Toponymy as macrostructure and microstructure (study on the toponymy of the Himara district) Helena Grillo (Mukli) Language and Literature Department, Faculty of Education “Aleksander Moisiu” University, Durrës, Albania Abstract: This paper is a research into toponymy and anthroponymy in Himara, a province where very controversial linguistic problems exist. One can notice these issues even in onomastics, a field in which the linguistic clash between Albanian and Greek is salient. This study discusses the current state of toponyms in the context of the materials collected in the field, aiming at providing a concrete contribution to this domain. By reviewing today’s toponyms, the analysis will consider the factors that have led to the creation of the most frequent paradigms of geographical toponymic derivatives. In addition to historical and religious factors that influenced the coinage of early names, there are natural factors, such as the geographical position and geological configuration of the settlements, the presence of water flows, and others, as well as the patronymic background. Keywords: onomastics, toponyms, macrostructure, microstructure, classification. Introduction General information about the Himara district Himara lies along the Ionian coast of Albania (the natives call it the Coast), occu- pying the northwest part, from the southern part of the Llogara mountain up to the mountain of Qeparo in the southeast, making up a straight line of 22 km. The eastern border consists of the ridge of Cika and the mountain of Qeparo. The width of the Himara district from east to west is from 5 km in Palase to 8 km in the village of Qeparo. This district is also part of the Albanian Riviera, which starts from Uji i Ftohte in Vlore and ends in Kep of Stili in Saranda. -
Albania Report
This report, conducted by the Master’s students of the Technische Universität Berlin’s Urban Management program in coopera- tion with the GIZ - Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, examines strategies of sustainable heritage conservation for the Albanian villages of Vuno and Qeparo. With this report we wish to stimulate and contribute to an emerging discussion in Albania regarding the development of creative, sustainable models for conserving the country’s rich cultural heri- tage and revitalizing village communities. Our intention is twofold. First, by elaborating on general principles of conservation in combi- nation with a broad collection of concrete and successful inter- national case-studies, we wish to inspire regional stakeholders to learn from elsewhere as they work to defne local solutions. Second, we hope that our proposal for the historic villages of Vuno and Qeparo - a Village Conservation Model based on the develop- ment of a Conservation Lab and dispersed Village Hotel - will be a constructive start to the preservation of the villages of Albania’s southern coastal region.
