20th May 2015 Updates of Dhading:

Joint team of Area Humanitarian Coordinator (AHC), Area Security Coordinator (ASC) of RC Nepalgunj, OCHA Officer, Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator (UNDP) conducted a joint field visit to Dhading. The team met with DDRC members and Humanitarian Actors in Dhading.

Meeting with CDO (The meeting was attended By the AHC of Gorkha hub, ASC, OCHA, UNDP)

1) Meeting with CDO. (The meeting was attended By the AHC of Gorkha hub, OCHA, UNDP).  Gorkha AHC introduced the Humanitarian hub to the CDO with explanation about the mandate of the Gorkha hub and OCHA and Early Recovery (UNDP) in brief.  Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator briefed CDO about the three pillars of ER, its importance and Organizational arrangement of MOFALD being the lead and UNDP being the Co- lead.

2) Second Meeting with CDO before the departure from Dhading (The meeting was attended by Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator and OCHA Officer):

 In response to the question of OCHA Officer Question regarding the urgent needs, CDO emphasized on the Transitional shelter, WASH and Health.  The CDO also clarified that the response has been completed and we should start with early recovery projects.

3) Meeting With LDO (The meeting was attended by Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator and OCHA Officer):

 ER Coordinator briefed LDO about the three Pillars of ER in detail.  Out of 50 VDCs in Dhading district, five VDCs in the northern part are still inaccessible by road and trek. Trekking routes were also blocked due to the Landslides. 90 % of the building of these VDCs totally destroyed and 10 % are partially destroyed.  The DDC has already handedover 900,000 Nepali Rupees to each VDC, to support in WASH, Food, and Health and Camp management. In case that money was not finished then DDC has given the instruction to VDCs Secretary to spend the remaining money in buying CGI Sheets for distribution to the people.  After the earthquake, the DDRC is working on assessment for the damage building for more than 12 days. The total time allocated for the assessment is 30 days. LDO shared that the assessment report will be with DDRC soon.  The DDRC is working to open the blocked walking routes to the 5 hard to reach VDCs. 11 Road have been already cleared by DDC and in order to ensure that there is  DDC is working on clearing the Trekking routes in 5 VDCs such that the relief materials can be carried by People.

4) Meeting with information officer of DDC (The meeting was attended by Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator and OCHA Officer):

 File for the distribution items (4Ws) has been prepared which is shared to the Central Early Recovery Team  Contact list of the Humanitarian Actors in Dhading was found to be in place.

4) Assistant CDO at the Distribution Centre in Dhading Headquarter (The meeting was attended by Gorkha Hub ER Coordinator and OCHA Officer):

 ER projects are still not started in Dhading.  Three distribution centers have been established in Dhading. Central distribution Centre in the district Headquarter and two VDCs, the VDCs have been divided amongst the humanitarian actors for the Relief activities.  UN agencies and INGOs are dispatching the humanitarian assistance to the DDRC. Then DDRC distributes to the VDCs according to the DDRC assessment, beneficiaries list and based on the need.  Some of the humanitarian actors have already handed over the relief materials while the others are in a process to handover.  UN humanitarian items lifted to the hard to reach VDCs by WFP helicopter three times as of now. Indian army helicopter is supporting the DDRC dedicated to Dhading.  There are regular cluster meetings (WASH, Shelter, Protection, Agriculture/ Food, Education) lead by DDRC, the CDO called for ICC meeting as per the need.  There is regular DDRC meeting attended by government representatives, Only UN representatives are allow to attend.

5) Similarly, we had meetings with Red Cross Representative, Korean Red Cross Representative and Nepal Army Measure while they were working for the distribution of Relief Materials.

6) Telephonic Conversation was done with the UNICEF Representative in Dhading.
