The BVNW Girls Soccer team set a fundraising goal of $900 for the Global Orphan project to purchase new school uniforms for students in Malawi, Africa. They collected $741 at the Charity Night game and an additional $633 in online donations combined for a total of $1,374 in funds raised. Those funds raised purchase over 90 school uniforms which also means over 90 student lives positively impacted! The team will be presenting the proceeds of the fundraiser to Bazwell, a former graduate of that school in Malawi, at the BVNW Girls Varsity Soccer game this Thursday night (4/29). The BVNW Girls Soccer Team wants to thank all of the BVNW community who donated generously and helped make this possible. If anyone would still like to contribute, the online site is still open for additional donations at https://give.goproject.org/BVNWgirlssoccer . This year’s DECA Banquet is on Tuesday, May 11 at 6:00 PM in the PAC It is time to celebrate our DECA chapter! Join us while we highlight this year's successes, hand out State awards, recognize ICDC qualifiers, and announce our new BVNW DECA officers! All DECA students and 2 additional family members are invited. Muse Magazine 2021 is finally out! Check out all the student talent BVNW has to offer! Every year Muse members put together a new edition of Muse magazine, BVNW’s literary arts magazine, to hand out to all the students in April. Take a look through this digital version and appreciate the hard work of the contributors who submitted their work, as well as the staff who selected pieces to be published and put it together. If you haven’t gotten the hard copy of the magazine yet, get yours now before it runs out in Room 109! Because the use of alcohol, illegal drugs, and tobacco is detrimental to the health and welfare of any student and because the use of alcohol and illegal drugs and the purchase of tobacco is illegal for adolescents in the state of Kansas, Olathe school district administrators, coaches and activity sponsors believe that the use or possession of the above substances is unacceptable. The use, distribution or possession of tobacco (including electronic cigarettes), illegal drugs and alcohol, on or off school property, will be considered a violation of published policy during the time the student is a member of an Olathe district athletic team and/or KSHSAA-sponsored activity. Violation of this regulation may be reported by a school district administrator, a staff member from the student’s school, the police, or upon verification by the parents of the accused student and/or admission of the student athlete or co-curricular student. The roll was called with thirty-eight senators present. Senators Colyer and Lynn were excused. Invocation by Chaplain Fred S. Hollomon: Heavenly Father, Today I thank You for Dr. John Witherspoon, a Presbyterian minister, who came to America from England in 1768 to serve as President of the College of New Jersey which became Princeton University. He represented New Jersey in Congress and had a deep respect for his fellow Congressmen whom he called statesmen instead of politicians. I was impressed, O God, by what he called the three indispensable elements of a statesman and patriot: 1. Be an active and sincere promoter of ‘‘true and undefiled religion.’’ 2. Avoid profanity and immorality of every kind. 3. If an individual opposes what God stands for, he opposes the very foundation upon which America has built. Dr. Witherspoon was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. One year later his son was killed in battle; His property destroyed, And his beloved college ruined almost beyond recognition. I’ve made a hobby, Lord, of studying the founding fathers, and the more I learn, the more I understand why they won a war which they should not have been able to win, and founded a nation that grew to be a magnet for immigrants from all over the world.
